- 1500 miles and two days in a truck I just bought and no nothing about. What could possibly go wrong? Its time to get this supercharged beauty from Florida to New Hampshire!

I miss my 01 lightning. Sold it only 3 years ago. Never should've sold it. Price was right, but now I live with regret. Owned it since 05, and sold it with 62,000 miles on it. This series will be heartbreaking but enjoyable to watch. And them seats are the best.

I tell ya what...speaking of seats....I bought an '04 S-Crew after I owned my '02 Lightning. Amazing seats in that '04 as well. That '04 took me and friends all over the central U.S. racing RC cars nearly every weekend during good weather months. Never once had a complaint about the seats. We used to challenge ourselves how long we could go without having to stop for a break....which our best was 6.5 hours (540 miles I think) before the truck needed a break for go-go juice.

Oh goodness. How I miss my Lightning. I had a black '02 as well. Added some Kenne Bell stuff and larger crank pulley. Had it running 11.8's in the 1/4 and a best ever on a cool night of 11.71. These trucks run the best if you tow your race car with it too the track. LOL. At least in stock configuration they do. Keep that tranny on the firm side that way and it really helps down the strip.
In 2004 I purchase my Lightning with 26k miles for $23,000....and just yesterday I came across one near me on FB marketplace with 95k miles and an asking price of $33,000. SHEESH!!!!!

Sometimes the floats on the sending units get a hairline crack and fill up with gasoline then as the tank goes lower the gas will leak out and it will float again I had this happen on two of my fords from the same year/era and replaced the float for a fishing cork made of actual cork and fixed the issue. My dad told me they used cork in old Volkswagen Beetles so I figured if it was good enough for the Germans it would be good enough for me and it was an inexpensive fix. It didn’t break down and ruin or block anything fuel line wise so hope this helps.

It's pretty funny how tiny the Lightning is compared to the F-250. It's crazy how big trucks have gotten. Also, your friend Ray is a legend for having an 8.1 powered GMC, those ain't easy to find anymore and are absolutely epic.
Chris look at Borla S-Type exhaust for a deep sound that will permit you to hear the cam. I find that Corsa is raspy and too high pitched for me. Borla or AWE are both known for quality sound; improved horsepower and never allows drone!!! I currently have Magna-flow on my F-150 so that’s a third suggestion. I have used Borla on numerous sports cars (Mustangs & Corvettes) & had Borla on a Porsche 911 S.
I ordered a new 2024 S650 Dark Horse Mustang and I am planning to get the 3” catback AWE Switchpath exhaust or Borla S-Type for the new Mustang when I get it. I ordered it on 6 April of last year. My son owns the dealership also. DK Mustangs ordered with the Handling package are on Ford Restraint currently. So after the AWE Strike my waiting continues. Planning to install the Whipple Gen 6 3.0 Stage II SC on it after I add the Kooks headers & AWE exhaust.

For the boost gauge needle, they sell illuminated paint that you can recondition that needle with. An easy fix on a budget. 😉

The SVT Lightning...one of my "bucket list" autos to have. Love the channel!! Keep doing what you are doing. Some of the "other" channels I watch have grown too big and so have their heads. Less about cars but more about other stuff. You keep it real with cars that I can relate to.
I was born in Connecticut but my family moved to Virginia in 1984 when I was 9. We moved back to Connecticut around 1994 and after 2 years later decided to go back south to VA. The only cool thing that changed me living in CT for 2 years was i got into foxbody mustangs so after getting back to Va i sold my camaros and bought a 1993 lx coupe 5.0 in 1998 which I still own.. now i lt has a dart block 363, vortech, holley efi, tremec tko 600 etc.

I have a white 2000 Lightning. I love it!!! Just a heads up, there is a latch on the back of both seats that lets the seat forward without messing with your seat adjustment. Also, using the latch lets your seat move forward way more than the seat adjustment does. Lol

Those 5.4’s are notorious for coil packs going bad. I’ve had old econoline work cans that needed them constantly
Never heard of this issue. I have a 4v 5.4 in my 07 gt500 they didn't have any such issues not that I've ever heard of.
@@midnight347 i worked for a forklift repair company and we had 5 e350 trucks and all of them had these issues. My truck alone got 3 coil packs in 1 year and the next year 2 of those 3 went bad again. I think the vans get a little hotter on the top of the engine because of the dog box and being crammed in there but not sure what it was.

Yeah @ 80mph your mileage is going to be abysmal, highway mileage is rated at 55mph, the higher you go the faster that fuel economy drops. I try to cruise around 65mph with 4.10's or more. The sending unit is likely gummed up from sitting, what I do to avoid that is put Seafoam in the tank, helps clear everything from the pump to the injectors. I attribute it to my 26 year old fuel system still working. Modern unleaded gas gunks up pretty quick, a few months without an additive.

At 80 with 410 in an 07 gt500 I knock down about 19-20 on the highway not bad for a 750 rwhp beast...this lightning is heavier and its a brick with an old 4 speed auto so I'm sure it's gonna get a bit less than that. By the time these trucks were new 65-70 mph speed limits were the norm so not sure why they would rate high mpg at 55. Never heard of that before. Not saying you're wrong just that I've never heard of it.
@@ChrisSullivan69 Lol I saw you made the trip in just 2 days, that's a lot of driving man. I'm wondering if you didn't go through some old fuel or simply got some bad fuel on the way home, a faulty coil can work properly again once it cools down though. I can't remember if you have a scanner but next I would look for misfire data to identify the cylinder(s) and then see if you can reach the electrical connector for that coil, then noid light the injector to help rule those out.
@@midnight347 I'm confused by your comment, speed limits haven't changed. Most highways outside of Texas are 60-75mph. 55mph is the optimal speed for any combustion vehicle to maximize fuel economy, manufacturers know you're going to drive faster than that so you will always get less than combined rated. Your fuel economy drops about 10% for every 10mph you go over 55, generally speaking.

I know it’s not the same engine but we did seven trips from California to south Florida in our 2001 Ford Expedition with 350k miles the transmission went out I ended up trading it in for 2018 Ford F-150 👍🏻

Awesome truck, probably the only vehicle I'd trade my Maruader for. I stupidly daily drove mine for 10 years. First, the radiator mounts rusted off, and the Finishing Move was the steering box bolts rusted off the frame. That's how you destroy a Lightning New England style. I'd bet money it's the rear passengers side coil that pooches. Chrome 20s would look sick. Great content as usual. 👍
Edit: take the gauge apart and flip the needle over. Magnaflow sells an X-piped muffler that cured the drone on mine.

I have an 03 Lariat with the 5.4, and right after I bought it, I thought I'll do a little preventative maintenance and change the plugs and coils using aftermarket. Well, the aftermarket ones have slowly went bad 1 at a time, so I keep the box of factory coils in my truck and change them as they go out. You are on the right track cause when my coils went bad, it could be bad 1 day and then run good for 2 days. It takes forever for the check engine light to come on, so you can't get the code for which cyl coil is going bad. Lesson learned stick with factory/oem replacements

Haha I thought so too. You'd think as soon as it started running bad the CEL would go off immediately. I just kept driving it gently till the code went off. When it was going bad, it would spit and sputter from a stop, then pick up a little at higher MPH. Definitely idled like crap. Sweet buy man, I'm always looking forward to your videos!
Hey Chris I'm a big fan of your channel, I love the lighting, if you haven't replaced the exhaust yet maybe suggest going with a corsa pro series muffler, I have that on my 2020 Silverado with the 5.3 and it's by far the best sounding exhaust I've ever had and there is absolutely no drone to it. Keep putting out the great videos and happy memorial day!!!

The pickup spot with the trailer looked like Albini Funeral Home in Waterbury, CT. I’ve been there a few times as I live in Watertown. Almost made it Chris! I’m looking forward to this Ford stuff. congrats and glad you guys made it back no major problems. I would have came up 75/85 via 331 to 231 . I think there is less traffic on I-85 in Ga and SC but none the less you guys made it. Yes NY, Philly and NJ have tainted this travel and FL IMO but there still some southern charm in Ga and FL if you look hard enough. The people cutting you off and driving crazy are from the former. I hope to get a SVT in silver now that prices are truing up and look forward to following your upgrades.
I’ve got the Borla S type cat back exhaust on my 2003. I really like it. Quiet while cruising but gets rowdy when you get on it. Mine still has factory exhaust manifolds and mid pipe. Not a whole lot of options out there for these trucks.
I'd put a nice set of Corsa Pro mufflers on there along with their truck side exhaust tip (16-19 Silverado/Sierra) which looks pretty nice and would likely fit in that location. I've been wanting to get a set of their pro series mufflers to do a full "true dual" exhaust on my 19 GMC Sierra 6.2 Denali since their system they sell is only really 1 pipe to a single HUGE muffler and splits out the back. In your case, you could run the Corsa Pro's on there with a single tip as your source of blending the notes then right out the side. Should make for a great tone along with a beautiful tip to go with that black beast. Great video's as always bud. Love the content.
I've been heavily considering the corsa pro. Only drawback is the price but it might be worth it to eliminate as much drone as possible while still being rowdy

My whipple supercharged fully built Gen 1 raptor gets 10.5 in the city and 12 to 13 on the highway, so I totally get it. And it has a 35 gallon tank thank God or trips to Baja would really suck. Love that lightning. Cant wait to see what you do to it.

Hmmmm well let me say this its black (which we all know you are a fan of) it has comfortable seats, its got really nice power and sound, and last but not least it has a very practical carpeted trunk area seems to me this thing checks all the boxes of a perfect daily driver / parts chaser shop truck. Who needs a Mercedes when they have an SVT Lightning!! I'd like to see it lowered maybe an inch and some black rims in the factory design ish look with a little wider tire on the back than the front ala Cobra Mustang. Plus all your usual detail work and this truck will be killer.
Just bought a 2002 SVT less then a month ago. Has Magnaflow already installed and it sounds real nice with no drone. You should look into that as well. Also, what a great friend Ray is. Not many would go out of there way just like that. Awesome content, just subscribed
