He did say he lives on the upper east side (UES). $1500 for a shared bedroom is a steal. Studios start at $2500. Single bedrooms are $3200. So yeah....it's a steal.
      1. Living on the UES isn't cheap
      2. You have to be making well north of 6 figures (200k-300k) to live well on the UES
      3. Living in Manhattan is not for wealth building unless #2 applies to you or living in Manhattan is required for work (finance sector). Even if a job pays you 2x more in Manhattan than Houston, you will pay 2-3x more for everything (groceries, transportation, restaurants, drinks, rent). Name it - it will cost more. Own a car and want to garage it? $600/month. Going out with friends to drink? $100 minimum. This city is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet.

Tone Combs I lived in a $12 thousand (a month) apartment in NYC for 6 years and it’s not that bad, I feel like people just need to go to NYC to grow opportunity when their careers are on an exponential slope, not the start of them but 10 years in for example. The apartment was 19N at the Corinthian in Manhattan and it was decent, had a view of the Hudson across the entirety except for a little part blocked by another skyscraper (far away); I even saw the CocaCola red sign across the river (I think that was in Queens). Apartment had 3 bathrooms with 2 rooms, one small extra room (big enough for a good sized living room, a SMALL kitchen but out of the way, a wide hall way, and a huge living and dining room combined which is where the oval glass view of the river was. Most young people think the top location is NYC and sure, urbanization of a population is good but NYC is an example where it starts to get too congested. People need to move evenly through cities which control prices and living conditions, helping the economy and themselves. But that won’t happen anytime soon.

In 2009-2013 I shared studio apartments in SF with my best friend and then my bf for around 1450 a month, and we actually thought THAT was highway robbery. The rents are astronomical now, and I know damn well people aren't magically making 2x their wages in 5 years, so obviously people can't pay that and have to go somewhere else. I moved to Utah and over the course of 4 years downtown apartments have risen to nearly the same damn amount as we were paying in SF back then. We looked into moving somewhere else but every city with a booming job market is the same story. So I accepted a job offer in SF and we're moving back to the bay area trying to find the most affordable neighborhood. I'd love to go were rent is $700 but there aren't any jobs for me in those places.

I think most people miss the point here. *You do not move to a city just because there is cheap housing available,* but rather you do because of several other factors such as opportunities, positive work environment etc. I am not saying that these don’t exist in Houston, but are more apparent in NYC. This is why many people move there, not because of the pricing of houses, but because of several other factors.

This is the only thing I quote Madonna on, but she said NYC is the greatest place if you're rich & the worst if you're poor.

GoldenFerrari778 Not necessarily. I live in the South Bronx and my area is quickly becoming gentrified. People who have lived in my building for decades are being kicked in favor of people like the guy in this video who don't mind paying $1,500 a month to "make due" with an apartment they can't even turn around in. Also, your family can't be that poor if you own a house.

    Not even a fair comparison. It's a $6000 rent apartment vs a $1500 apartment.

thats because there are no 1500 dollar apartments in manhattan anymore, specially upper east side

Houston has some great apartment complexes that offer great amenities such as pools, fitness rooms, garage parking with controlled access and also homes, town homes and condos for rent. Just got back from NY and it's crazy expensive and so congested! I'm not knocking NY but I love Houston with it's reasonable cost of living, friendly people, music scene and neighborhood walkability scores increasing, such as: Midtown: Walk Score of 82, Neartown-Montrose: Walk Score of 80, Downtown: Walk Score of 75. Also, great restaurants and museums!

I hate when people in nyc split rent but pass it off as if that was the total rent. The title is misleading.

I lived in Nyc for over 20 years. 1500 a months does not even get u a full studio. U would have a rented bedroom in someone else’s apartment.

VERY VERY misleading. As person born and raised in NYC this pisses me off. That was a $6k NYC apartment, would love to see how luxurious a $6k apartment in that other city was.

For everyone saying that this isn't an actual $1500 apartment, you forgot that those don't exist in nyc lol.
