  • Flying the same aircraft for over 40 years and 4300 hours has been a good partnership. The J does so many things well... truely a timeless aviation classic IMO. Please add to the comments what I left out, the list of 201 qualities is very long!
    Lots of flying and music here: earthflight.com/
    Please sus etc & thank you for watching!

    ❤ Love your video. I remember you doing JPI videos a number of years back. I’m a 31 year owner of the same F model. I can’t agree with you more about how it feels to own the same plane for as long as we have. It’s part of the family…

    Just bought my first Mooney ('78 M20J) and really love it. Bought it on 15 Oct and the day after, flew it across the Australian continent from Perth to Canberra, with only two refueling stops. What a plane!

      That sounds really fun...great way to become acquainted. I’m planning a NY to LA trip in June, but will wander a bit in the mountains/4 corners region.

      @@CraigPeyton_EarthFlight Nice part of the country - I was assigned to a US/Aus military exchange program at USAF Space Command in Colorado Springs from 97-00, and did a lot of flying around the 4 corners region.

    Great video. The M20J is truly the best combination of speed and efficiency. I owned an '82 for about five years and it was an airplane I had complete trust in.

    Have a 79 J as well. I didn’t really know a lot about them when I bought it two years ago. Can’t beat them! Very very pleased. I think if Mooney started production of the 201 again, they could rebuild the business. LOVE VNC too! Hope to be there soon!

      Agree..they built their market on the 201 efficiency. At least there’s a lot still out there.

    I love the M20J. I have a M20C 10 months now. Wish I could have gotten a J model, but the price was outa my range. Love/hate the Johnson bar at times, lol. Nice video.

      My airline pilot friend said no matter what you fly you always want faster, even jet speeds ... the C model is cool, simple, no gear motor to fail, and most >200 mile trips, the speed difference is tiny. The key... it’s a Mooney, and it flys!

      @@CraigPeyton_EarthFlight yes she has all the speed mods and a 3 bladed prop. Normally cruise about 148 MPH. A valve spring broke while in the air the other day causing severe vibrations. Flew it once since shes been fixed and with other issues found and fixed, she felt like she had an extra 5hp

    Hi Craig. I just bought a 1978 J model and have it in for an annual. I suspect it will need a lot of work but very much looking forward to flying it. I went for a ride in a Cessna 182 and only had an indicated speed of about 120 knots at 13 GPH. Went for a ride in a Mooney indicating 150 knots at 9 GPH. Decision was for me a no brainer. Also really like the paint scheme on your plane.

    • @CraigPeyton_EarthFlight
      @CraigPeyton_EarthFlight  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, speed is controlled by my wallet, but always there when you need it, especially in a strong headwind. When I put around local, I can burn 7ish and still have good flight qualities.

      @@CraigPeyton_EarthFlight thanks, it's one of my major goals in life. When I have the money, I'll get the Mooney, hehe. Most people who buy a 172, cherokee, ect. sell it somewhere down the line. I think the 201 would be great as a first and last plane to own.
