Thank you! Sending this to my sister who is graduating in September. She luckily has a job with Baycare in Florida but she will be looking to move with us to California so this will help a lot.
Hi im trying to add this guide to purchase but the link doesn't seem to work after I added it to the cart
I bought your document right before, but there is no sample of answers... there are only questions. Is that right? Or I missed the part of the answer?
Why should we hire you?
Because i have a bachelor’s degree in nursing. And !! You’re hiring.
This is not the kind of nurse you want
@@DBasedAlexlol
@@DBasedAlexYes it is. 😂 Any nurse is better than no nurse
@@DBasedAlex a funny nurse is the one I want 🤷♀️ rather have a funny nurse than a boring nerd
Lol. This was literally the first thing I thought when I saw this video. I’m not saying it isn’t great advice, but many units in my area have taken on travel nurses with like 3-4 week contracts, I feel like someone who was planning to go back to school in a few years would be a relief.
I would say a good tip for new nurses is to do shadow shifts. It will give you an idea about the environment, what you are getting into and if it is a fit for what your current needs are. A good shadow shift doesn’t totally ensure you will love the unit, but a manager can’t give you the insight that talking to actual staff will. Managers tend to use language like “prioritizing work life balance”, etc and I’m sure they are all trying, but the staff will tell you how well it is actually working. Thing like how easy is it to use your vacation (where I live the lead time needed to use vacation can be as little as a few weeks, to as much as several months), how many nights/weekends you will be expected to do, what it’s like to be on call, overtime availability.
I am in the process of leaving a floor that was a dream gig when I was first starting, you can essentially work unlimited overtime and it’s not last minute overtime, it’s booked overtime. Which means you can work several overtime shifts per month and still know your schedule at least a week in advance. Spaces like this can be draining, especially over time, but they can also be a great financial head start. It all depend on your goals.
I’ve actually never thought about it like this before so thank you so much for the tip. I always assumed it was better to seem hardworking/ambitious.😅
Be ambitious as long as your ambitions don't involve you leaving.
Couldn’t agree more ! The last thing a interviewer wants to also hear is your getting married and can’t wait to start a family 😂😂😂glenda
This is the problem with job interview... Say what they want to hear, interviewers only interested in reassurance. E.g you want to be a nurse or whatever you are applying for the rest of your life. They only interested in that temporary relief.. what's the point ??? Why go through all this stages to find the "right" person when all you want is the "correct" answer.. and look for someone who has the skills to frame answer or lie to you..
This whole interview system in my honest opinion is just a complete waste of time
I think that’s a huge generalisation because job interviews are used on every level of employment I don’t think anyone should get hired in any profession without having human to human contact establishing some connection, a job interview can also be a time for you to ask questions about potential employment though what you said can true nothing in life is black and white and the world is too large and diverse to ever feel so certain about anything if some aspects we get to decide based on our experiences and opinions what we are viewing. It’s what we look at that matters, it’s what we see
I agree that we shouldn't have to lie through our teeth just to get a job. In the end someone is going to do what's best for them, not the company - that much is obvious. An interview should primarily be about assessing personality and asking questions about the organization to see if you would actually be okay with spending your waking hours there. So while it isn't totally pointless, the system (as always) is focused on the wrong things. A lot of things in life are this way and it sucks. You have to play the part to survive.
Unless they have you sign a contract
You are such a great nurse and you are helping us too thanks!! 😊
Tbh, where you're graduating from also plays somewhat of a role. Every time I tell interviewers where i'm graduating from, they sit up straighter and lean forward. You can *feel* their interest in the air. That’s where you come in with your passion for the job and why you're applying for them. I straight-up told them I was aiming to become an NP and i wanted to work in their hospital for a specific department to gain experience to apply for the NP program. They didn’t seem any less interested. They actually wanted to hear more about my plans and why i wanted to do that, likely so they could recruit me within their network once i'd done the NP studies. I did remember this video, tho, and told them that i wasn't going to rush into being an NP and was going to stay with them at least 3-4 years to gain the needed experience.
I got the job.
After watching the video, interviewers wised up!
Step 1: Come to Germany and you don’t even have to go to the interview to get hired…we need nurses desperately 😂
But one has to learn the German language to communicate with patients. It's difficult. 😢
that's all tho tbh, in around 4-6 years A1-C1 and you can already be a nurse there with full education paid along with allowance and salary. you could also be a nurse in ur country beacause its verified by others too@@SreeBSNstudent
Facts! THIS IS FOR ALL JOBS !
I'm in a different industry but I get to conduct many interviews. You'd be amazed how many people answer this question wrong. Several times I've heard... "I want to retire". Ummmm yea .. not a good answer. The latest one was "I want to move up to your job". I was a bit taken aback. The audacity. I'm all for ambitious staff but that was BOLD.
In my last job, I was hired to be a general worker, and ended up being the only trained machine operator and QC inspector, so I was quite literally running a department with the quality checks and proper procedure stuff (paperwork, health and safety stuff, etc) while also running all the machinary that was required, and I was put through a bunch of courses and different programs..
Now at my current job, I'm QC again, but I'm far to over-qualified for the role. Like in my interview, they asked why I was coming to them for a job, and I was like "I worked at [insert company name] doing QC and Machine Operating, so I came here wanting a change of scenery and something a little more relaxed." I was very straight to the point, and the lady interviewing me actually liked my answer because I was honest and because everyone knows the company I worked for, as it employs a rather large percentage of my countries population, but everyone also knows that they are super tough on their staff and only give job promotions to people who they see great potential in.
It took me 6 weeks to get promoted to QC at my current job, and I've been happily running my second department for almost 5 months, and I'm only 21, so I hope to achieve more in the nearby future.
I’m a nurse in Florida and most places already guarantee you a job without an interview
Interviewer: Why should we hire you?
Me: Because you need employees?
I got an ADN so my 5 year plan was always get my BSN they liked that 😂
So not tell the truth. Got it
Welcome to the world on job interviews. Rule one don’t ever tell the whole truth.
Well they started with that interview
you’re the best miki… im still in school for nursing and i would have been so nervous for this kind of thing 😭🫶🏻
And she gets the gold star for this topic. 😊
Haha, when it comes to getting a job, you do whatever you need to. Honesty is never the best policy.
Omg you are so helpful tysm!! I want to be a nurse when I am older and I’m saving this 😂😂
Amen! And today if you can keep a new nurse for 2 years- you are considered a miracle worker by the other Nurse Managers! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m not a nurse but the tips you have are great 😊 ❤
“What is your long term goal?”
“I want to help bill every patient as much as I can, so the hospital can generate a higher revenue each year.”
“You are hired. The US healthcare system and the hospitals are honored to have you.”
I think the best think prospective nurse employees can do is shadow shifts. This is especially true if you plan to work somewhere that wasn’t part of your schooling. I got my first nursing job from a co-op program that affiliated with my nursing school. I worked at that hospital as a student and then continued on after my graduation. It was great since I already knew the hospital and they knew me.
Then I decided to move back to my home province, where I had barely even set foot in the local hospitals. I started just working for the agency to essentially investigate where I wanted to be. I eventually settled on a floor that had an IMCU program, since I wanted to be highly skilled, but was not interested in ICU or ventilators. I also knew that I liked the overall vibe of that unit, they had an affiliated clinic program, and they had plenty of OT. It’s hard to discover all the relevant info from an interview alone, and sometimes there are things you don’t even think to look into.
I recently decided to leave IMCu after almost 10 years and I got my new job via a shadow shift. I knew i wanted a change, but I didn’t know where I wanted to go, I still like my job but the staffing shortages that meant “unlimited overtime” have now become less attractive (essentially exhausting) now that I am a dept free homeowner. I knew I wanted a similar vibe so I checked out the PACU as a shadow and they offered the job without an interview - while I’m sure my seniority helped, this is not unusual even for nurses a few years out. Calling a manager and asking about shadows tells them a lot about you, that you are looking for a good fit, which implies they aren’t just a quick stop to somewhere else you are going - they also get to see you work which can tell them much more than an interview would.
I would strongly encourage any nurses whose looking for a job to shadow. The shifts are usually short, 2-4 hours, but im sure it could vary. Where I live the managers are mostly super eager to allow prospective nurses to shadow, and if they aren’t I would see it as red flag.
@@squidleyskidley I just asked the manager of the floor I was interested in, they were thrilled to have me shadow, however I was already working in an affiliated hospital at the time.
You mostly just "shadow" i.e. follow around a permanent employee and see how their day goes and what they do,etc. You don't actually do much in terms of direct care so I don't think liability would be a huge concern.
hahah I can use this tip my next interview at a restaurant, was more than qualified but mentioned wanting to open my own restaurant and/or study psych, safe to say i didnt get the job haha
Don’t encourage people to lie, be genuine and apply to places you actually want to work & can see yourself growing professionally. We all can change our minds but good intentions from the start goes a long ways.
Good intentions and honesty is great until you realize they don’t cover rent in the quadruple digits and grocery prices that seem to double every other month…
Well whose idea is that interview anyway
Amazing advice
Isit okay if I want to be in the same hospital but transfer to a different unit / specialty
Flip side I actually got my job because I do plan on being there for at least 5 years
Lol @ me who straight up told them I would probably leave in a couple years because my ultimate goal is forensic nursing and that isn't feasible at my current (rural) location. also answered 3/5 of the questions poorly. still got the job
Great answer - same logic applies to any job interview!
POV : u are watching this but u are not planing to be a nurse
Will this ever be on sale or is there a discount code?
😊😊😊😊
Just be like i want to be floor nurse for life. Basically super hirable and unfirable
Thank God I didn't go to medical school
Yellow spot?
The hell is a clinical nurse 2 & 3?? When do you graduate from nurse residency??
Nurse residency is typically for all new hires with less than 6 months of experience, it can go anywhere from 6 weeks to a year, sometimes they may say you have to stay in the position for 2 years, it's a good experience that builds confidence
How the frick are you supposed to compete against her in an interview. She is over-prepared and will probably be the boss soon.
Cardiothoracic surgeon is more like it.
Haha i only just realised youre cross-eyed! 🤪
You forgot smart
I don't think they can afford to be that picky, lol
Whenever you have time May you please do some for medical assistants 🥹
Just curious what's that yellow thing on ur head
Star
Why is there a yellow star on your forehead?
ha ha ha. truth is suppressed. be honest, love. Don't get hired, start your own business.
So be fake and lie!!!!! Got it
Interview - we only want to hear a certain answer from you eve though we know it’s a lie.
Pfft just tell em you will work straight nights then switch to days after 3 months
So lie. Not saying it’s bad advice, though.
And that is why Health Care is about to ... If not already ... Fail. Eh ... Who needs healthcare anyways.
Sounds less than ambitious. New nurses should have ambition. Some organizations want their nurses to have their eye on the horizon. All of what this chick said should happen by year 3 and are a natural progression. I would be thinking.. as I am a hiring manager... that they will just be stuck has a half made nurse and will not do fantastic. Oh well. They will likely be in that spot forever.. likely be surpassed by new nurses that actually want to grow their careers.
So, lie.
So lie .
Weird eyes
That's her super power.
Why can’t all nurses look like you and doctors all look like your BF?? Most I’ve seen are all very overweight and/or in a bad mood
So…. Lie.🥲
