- Growing big peppers in containers
Hello plant growers, like I said in last video - this one is about growing peppers in containers. I've grown these peppers mostly in greenhouse, but I also grow peppers on balcony. The reason for greenhouse peppers is to prolong the season for them so I can compare the results between the one I "topped" and the other one.
If you are curious about that, subscribe so you don't miss the video I will make: / @liap

Hello pp Sir matandang buhay ang ganda naman po at ang dami ng bunga ng pepper team arcee
Nice video. Peppers looks like what I grew last year. Carmen sweet Italian Peppers
They look very similar according to pictures! Thank you very much 🤗
@@Liap You are welcome
If you still interested, the variety is called "Palermo" :)
Healthy plants and beautiful peppers, alot if guesses so I guess marconi peppers?
I am still not sure About the variety but yes, probably 😅
The variety is called "Palermo" if you're still interested
Your channel is really underrated! Not kidding. I have subscribed to you with all my 4 accounts to help you.
Wow! Thank you very much for your kind opinion and also for the support 😊
You would have increased production if you begin harvesting the fruits as soon as possible, rather than waiting until you have a large collection of ripe red peppers . When fruits are on the plant, the plant will focus on increasing their size and maturing those fruits, but if you remove the peppers, the plant will focus instead on blossoming and producing new fruits.
Agreed 🙂 I was not harvesting them regulary because of the better visual comparison in another video. Thank you very much for Your advice.
Only part true, they tend to produce in cycles were the weather permits year round growing. Setting a batch of flowers then ripening seeds going through another growth cycle then another batch of flowers.
@@LiapWill liquid fish fertilizer wash away when it rains 🌧 ????
@@mercedesbenzs600bash Some of it, probably yes. But I wouldn't bother that much.
@@Liap Much appreciated 🙏🏾
I have grown Big Jim NuMex peppers and Marconi Rosso. Of the two your peppers seem closer to Big Jims, a very productive long sweet open pollinated variety .
Hello, I later found out the variety is called "Palermo". And I am growing them again this year, transplanting next week 🪴
Though, thank You very much for trying to help me out with the variety 🙂 Have a nice evening
Nitrogen fertilizer is a very helpful tip. Mine were flowering at at two inches tall
That's quite early 🙂 I am growing some hot peppers this year and some of them are just 3-4 inches tall and blooming already.

Thanks for this tip. When would you add the nitrogen fertilizer?
Which pepper grew more peppers? The topped off one or the un-topped?
In the final weight, the in-topped one, but there are many factors for that such as short growing season and also more pruning which i should’ve done 🙂
which gave you more production and fruits the pruned pepper or the unpruned. i have one bell pepper growing at the moment and want the most from it haha
The unpruned one, but there is more into this… short growing season and intensity od pruning. This was just an experiment in containers, but If u have longer growing season, pruning will most likely get you better results.
@@Liap awesome thanks for the reply, i just watched your cucumber video im actually growing mine now just repotted them im zone 10a spain so i can put them in the ground a little later on, ( i know i shouldve started in jan,feb indoors with alot of my tomatos and stuff but i started it all this year in april haha its all trial and error for me and my little balcony)
Probably a cow horn or Marconi pepper, both from Italy
The beauty of these species is they are sweet even when green.
Hello, the variety is called “Palermo” as I found out just few months ago.
Agreed, these peppers are fantastic! 🙂
Great peppers. Where do you buy the seeds? Very nice video.
I got these seeds from a friend of mine, they were from store-bought peppers in Austria. Though I don't know the variety.
Thank you very much.
The variety is called "Palermo" if you're still interested.
so I have some 10 gallon containers. How many peppers you think I should put in them?
Well, that depends on the width of those containers and also variety of the peppers you want to grow in them. Assuming they are 40-45cm wide you could fit 4 peppers there 🙂
@@Liap of nice thanks! i was thinking 2! ok i will do more!
@@camirrawilliamson92 I am always trying to get the most possible result out of any space, without overcrowding. Though, sometimes I really overcrowd :-) But I think if you are going to prune them a little, it will be ok. I'll be happy if you let me know how it worked for you! Good luck!
I'm wondering about supporting them with stakes. How early? What kind? Is it necessary? Any advice?
We have quite windy over here, so it's necessary to give stakes to support them. Sweet pepper varieties can get quite big and carry a lot of fruit. A little support will definitely help the plant 🙂
When the plant is about 40-50cm (15-20") tall would be the point to give them support.
I want some forest soil!!!
Great looking garden, will liquid fish fertilizer wash away if it rains???
Well, when it rains, the water always take away some nutrients with it, but it also makes them more accessible to plants. I wouldn't bother so much, unless it's heavy long-lasting rain.
@@Liap Much appreciated 🙏🏾
I guess I'll switch to daily watering and weekly fertilizing. Every other day of watering is not enough.
It is dependant on many things like the size of container, it’s material, size of the plant and ofcourse weather. So If the soil is dry and the plant wilted, then it’s really not enough 🙂
What size in cm 10gall stands for?
I am growing tomatoes this year in 10 gal containers, they are 38cm wide and 30cm deep. Hope this helps 🙂
Looks like a very nice pepper, I wish you knew the name ; )
I am thinking these could be Maroni Peppers.
I've just found out! The variety is called "Palermo" and it's on of the sweetest peppers
Is it okay to transfer a plant that is already starting to have peppers grow on it? I have a plant in a small container that already has peppers on it and I need to transfer it to a larger container. Will this hurt anything?
Yes, it is okay. The plant will focus on growing and expanding it’s root system anyway 🙂 I was planting cayenne peppers into the ground with small peppers here and there and they are doing just as Good as the ones with no fruit on them.
@@Liap I appreciate that. I did the transfer expecting it to kind of stall out, but the peppers are growing pretty rapidly. Its still a small plant. One pepper is almost as long as the plant is tall. Should I go ahead and harvest the pepper to give the plant a chance to grow some? I can send you a picture if you like.
@@orkboy59 yes you can harvest the pepper and give the plant chance to focus on growing more peppers. Yes, I would like to see it 🙂
they are Marconi Italian sweet peppers I think.
The variety is called “Palermo” as i found out later 🙂 anyway, thank you for the suggestion and trying to help!
Will it fruit again and if yes ... About how many times
Well peppers are perenials, so as long as you can overwinter them, they will live and produce fruit again next season.
Looks like a pardon pepper
The variety is called "Palermo" if you're still interested.
I bought peppers from aldi, until now they haven’t bear fruits😁
Why is that? 😐
I did too this year and they're doing great.
Did you cut the tops off all of your peppers.
No, just this one for comparison 🙂
Possibly giant marconi peppers /red marconi
Thank you 🙂
"Palermo" is the name of the variety. I've just found out!
Beautiful red peppers! What's the name of these peppers?
I am not sure about the variety, these were seeds from store bought peppers in Austria 🙂 but someone in comments said it could be Anaheim peppers so.. maybe that helps
@@Liap definitely not Anaheim. But they look great. Nice work
@@brabbit2967 To this day I do not know the variety. Thank you for stopping by! 🙂
The variety is called "Palermo" if you're still interested.
What peppers variety are those.
I do not know the exact variety, the seeds were given to me by a friend who had them from store bought peppers in Austria. Someone in the comment section mentioned “Anaheim” variety, and they look quite similar. Hope this helps.
The variety is called "Palermo", if you were still interested :)
What is "nettle"" fertilizer?
Chopped nettle plants in bucket with water for 2-3 weeks. And not stinky alternative - nettle tea 🙂
I don’t see Nettle fertilizer on Amazon. Is there a substitute for this?
Hello, I don't think it is being made commercially. It is pretty easy to make it yourself, just cut some nettle, chop it, put in a bucket, add water to 3/4 of the bucket and close it. In 2-3 weeks Your fertilizer is ready (depends on the temperature). You can also stir it here and there.
Though, be prepared as it is quite stinky
😐
@@Liap ok thanks
they look like giant marconi red's to me... do they have any heat? did you ever find out what these are?
Unfortunately, no 😬
I've just found out. The variety is called "Palermo".
In the cause you would be still interested :)
No heat in marconi
Look up anaheim chili.
"Palermo" is the variety, I've just found out!
@@Liap ok nice
I think these are anaheim peppers!
They look very similar according to pictures. Thank you 🙂
The variety is called "Palermo". If you still interested :)
Don't prune your plants like this if they're bell peppers!! Only smaller, more abundantly flowering plants actually produce more mass in fruit this way, so Jalapenos and smaller!
Thank you for an advice! I pruned these so I could do a harvest comparison between pruned and unpruned plant.
@@Liap Thank you for the fabulous work!🤗
Music tooooooooo loud!!!!!!😢😢😢😢😢
My apologies, I will try to be more carefull with music loudness in future videos. Thank You for Your feedback.
@@Liap thank you very much! I am hard of hearing and I have to concentrate hard to understand what is said, so the music makes that almost impossible. When people are speaking in a video, music is - my humble idea - not even necessary but if added, it would be VERY MUCH appreciated if it were minimal indeed.
God bless you!
What is nettle fertilizer?
A simple fertilizer made from nettle.
Fill a bucket with chopped nettle, add water to 2/3 and close the bucket for 2-3 weeks. It stinks a lot, but pretty good homemade fertilizer 🙂
