  • It's the middle of March now, and there's loads to do. Lots of seedlings are germinating and I've got some pricking out to do. It's also time to sow the potatoes. Come and see how it's all getting on.

    Claire, oh, how I love this time of the year. We here in Nebraska are under highly suggested self quarantine which leaves me with much extra time to devote to gardening chores. I do have onion seed growing under the grow lights right next to the Bell Green peppers. In a couple weeks I'll be starting the tomato seeds. They grow so fast that I have to contain myself not to start them too early. Next week will be the time to start spending lots of time in the garden.
    Have a great day in the green house and garden.

      Yes, we're under lockdown here in the UK. We're only allowed to go out to get food, medicine, exercise and go to work if we can't work from home.
      I can't bring other peoples gardens home with me, and as I work on my own, I can obey the social distancing rules. Hope you are having fun being able to spend more time in your garden at the moment. Lots to do at this time of year. Take care and keep safe xx

    Nasturtiums also attract aphids, so I use them under my fruit trees.My cherry tree gets ruined EVERY YEAR by aphids being farmed by ants! Great video Claire x

    You keep me motivated, just finished, tomatoes in the ground all the peas and beans and lettuce, we bought Ladybugs (LADYBIRDS) and Preying Mantis will put those out over the next few weeks, the weather is getting better and we have lots of time with the Covid 19 quarantine, put out all the Geraniums and moved some Cactus, some of the succulents are blooming and the frogs are having a party every night - Stay safe MIKE B

    What got your Lobelia, a slug ?. I've declared war on mice !!, when i started using my new bag of compost, well 2 weeks old, it was cut open ready to use, my first handful came out almost full of bird seed, the little buggers have been picking up bird seed obviously meant for birds and burying it in my compost ! god knows what else will start growing once i start potting my plants on. As my dad used to say 'A gardener has more enemies than Hitler ever had' yeah very true. Love your videos and your always happy cheerful personality.

    I was cleaning some pots out of my garden and discovered a mama mouse with five babies latched onto her like they were feeding! She walked ,or tried to , to the nearest clump of hedge.
    All the babies with her. As long as she’s heading for the pasture,I’m ok.

      Yes they're fine in the open, but we sometimes get them in the house. We live in a converted barn. I've wired all around the bottom, but they're getting in somewhere. It's only the odd one or two, so I don't mind. We also get bunnies from the field at the back in the garden, well used to. Mark and I have wired all round the perimeter, so hopefully they won't come in any more. We do have a bunny hiding in the garage, under some shelving, but there's nothing for it to damage there.

    Seeing your apple tree there - my grandaughter planted a Pip about 8-9 years ago .... It's taken all this time to get just a little bigger than yours there, It's a great little reminder of when she wasn't a 'teenager' ;-)

      Yes kids grow up so fast. Mine are 20 and 18 (end of April), where did that time go, it seemed only 5 minutes ago they were babies. I prefer them now they're older. they cost more to feed, but at least they can make you a cup of tea.

    Love your vids, I find them very practical and interesting, Do you know that 1st earlies like Foremost are classified 'determinate' and will only produce spuds on a single level , so planting 2 at 2 levels 4" apart is recommended and will give you more spuds per tub? Hope this is useful...By the way your tubs are 30L

      Hang on, you've watched most of my videos? But that must have taken ages, there are over 350 of them! Blimey, thank you. I hope you find my book useful, I'll start working on the second one soon, just got to finish my novel, and then go through my children's book again. I'll see what I can do about a greenhouse.

    • @clairesallotment
      @clairesallotment  Před 4 lety

      I don't get them in the greenhouses. But if they are a problem, then it's the damp that attracts them. Try slabs on the floor, clear any debris under the shelving, and shut the door every evening. Greenhouses tend to get too hot for snails during the day, so put it in the sunniest place you can. If you are also able to put a load of wood chips round the edge of the greenhouse. They are too sharp for them to move about on.
