I still look back at JaMarcus Russell. I don't remember if it was his OC or QB coach but one of his coaches gave him a CD with "film" and told him to go home and study it. Came back the next day, asked him how it went, he said "It was good, good film, I learned a lot"
    The CD was blank

So is Zach that type of player with no effort or not. He could put in all of the effort and still not be able to process defenses fast enough or get fast feet in the pocket. We know his mechanics aren’t great in the middle of the season. And it looked decent at the beginning of 2021 and the beginning of last year and then got worse. Players like Aaron Rodgers have stated that he put in a lot of effort. It’s hard to know if that’s just being a good teammate by Rodgers or not. I just have no confidence in a coach like Saleh that has lost the locker room each of the last two seasons. Wilson went into an organization that has continuously failed QBs, with no decent veteran, and all rookie coaches. It made no sense after the QB coach died right before Zach’s rookie season. Again, I just have no confidence in Saleh nor that o line.

There’s no question that the Jets are more to blame.
The resume of Zach Wilson coming out of BYU was that he was supposed to be a developmental project. If you really only played 2 years of college with a lower ranking college franchise in BYU, you’ll need more time in the NFL. The Jets overlooked all of that and expected Joe Burrow simply because Zach was the #2 pick.
The analogy that Zach Wilson didn’t improved and Josh Allen did isn’t very good. Why? Josh had a more functional coaching staff and team around him. Zach had a team that did not help him improve much. And yet, Zach Wilson’s last full game with the Jets was almost flawless when he defeated the Houston texans’ CJ Stroud.
So the book’s still out on Zach. Let’s see if he can pick up from that last game and play consistently good football.

The first book was botched by the Zach Wilson Authors who wrote it. Such Authors were the whole Jets organization. And the Jets have zero history of any successful publication of young QBs .

  • @cobbler88
    @cobbler88 Před 20 dny

I think to be completely honest with the answer, we have to go back to all the things we knew when Wilson was drafted, but ignored because we needed a QB horse race of some sort since it was obvious that Trevor Lawrence was going to be the No. 1 pick.
What did we - and, I assume, the Jets know by the time the 2021 NFL Draft came about?
-We knew that in nine games in 2018, Wilson threw for less than 1600 yards and only 12 TDs.
    - We knew that in nine games in 2019, Wilson threw for less than 2400 yards and had a TD:INT ratio of 11:9, while his completion percentage actually went DOWN 3.5% from the previous season.
    - We knew that in 2020, BYU was able to cobble together an entire schedule from scratch because of COVID. The result was a schedule ranked #67 with a number of 0.7. For some context, UCF was only 7 spots higher but it's SOS rating was almost 4x that of the Cougars at 2.7. En route to 10 regular season wins, BYU defeated Navy (3-7), Troy (5-6), La. Tech (5-5), UTSA (7-5), Houston (3-5), Texas State (2-10), W. Kentucky (5-7), Boise State (5-2, lost to both ranked teams it played), North Alabama (0-4), and San Diego State (4-4). The only team the Cougars faced that was ranked at the end of the season was Coastal Carolina, which beat BYU, 22-17.
-We knew that during that season in which BYU hand-picked a slate in which almost none of the teams was any sort of threat (only UTSA came within one score of winning), Wilson's numbers magically improved (in 3 more games than those other seasons) to almost 3700 yards passing, a 33:3 TD:INT ratio, a completion percentage that leapt by more than 11% and an average yards/attempt roughly 3 yards better than his previous two campaigns, combined.
-We knew that Wilson skipped the NFL Combine drills and only had his measurements taken. I'd wager that with all the water being carried by an ignorant media (of which I've been a part for a few decades), he figured he could only lose by being compared directly to other quarterbacks.
We knew all of these things. The Jets knew all of these things. So who is to blame for Wilson being a bust?
The Jets, because of where they drafted him.
Most of us who bothered to do the 20 minutes of legwork knew the overwhelming likelihood was that this kid was fool's gold. (Lance was an equal "bust," but since he really had no resume to speak of, there was really nothing shiny there to fool people with). He was probably worth a flier in the second or third rounds. Fail when drafted THERE, and no one would really blink. But it was the Jets that made him such a high draft pick that he could be considered a bust, so they must take the blame.
    Take care.

He was behind the worst offensive line and probably the worst offensive coach in the NFL. - Wilson skipped the NFL Combine drills and only had his measurements taken. Why be compared directly to other quarterbacks when it can only cost you, right?
Still, it's the Jets' fault he's a bust. The League became convinced that a kid who was only really worth a 2nd- or 3rd-round flyer was a top QB and the Jets took him No. 2. Take him No. 53 like Hurts and no one would think twice if he didn't work out.

All of it.
The kid can play and will show out in Denver under a real HC in Sean Payton.
The thing that the Jets organization is most noted for is that they are quarterback killers.
In the last fifteen years alone they've ruined Mark Sanchez, Gino Smith, Sam Darnold and Zack Wilson.
Among the four, Wilson is the most gifted and was mismanaged the most by the organization.
OC LaFleur and HC Saleh scapegoated Wilson for their own massive shortcomings.
Those two did the organization enormous harm by not only ruining Wilson, but also ultimately causing the Jets to give away a top talent like Wilson for nothing by not manning up and owning up to the damage that they did to Wilson. Those two don't figure to be around much longer in football while Wilson will outlast them by plenty - just not with the Jets

The Jets offense that Wilson had to play behind was absolute sh*t and instead of manning up and admitting what a turd of an offense he was putting on the field, Saleh scapegoated Wilson - who never had a chance. And the Jets organization is too effed up to realize what a zero of a coach they have in Saleh. And the OC's LaFleur and Hackett are bottom of the barrel,
As far as Sanchez, Rex was a defensive coach. And if you watch him as an analyst on TV, he is still only a defensive coach. Rex's philosophy was don't let the QB do anything, ever. Hard to develop a QB under those rules.

Zack magnifies all the O-line flaws because he holds onto the ball forever and takes unnecessary sacks. Implying this problem was all the jets' fault when the likes of Joe Flacco and Mike White both had more success than Zach in the same exact circumstances.

@@Jcd5596 So Ryan was a good developer of quarterbacks? News to everybody except you, I guess.
OC LaFleur was a one trick pony as a coordinator. His only offensive scheme was a stationary QB who was big enough to throw over the line. Opening up passing lanes for a shorter, mobile quarterback was beyond the scope of his extremely limited ability. It was an offense that suited the backup QBs not the starter which was why LaFleur was a miserable choice for OC but knowing that was beyond the scope of management who hired LaFleur's ability. So White would stand in for two games in an offense designed for him and take hit after hit until he was maimed by the end of the second game. No wonder he left town as quick as he could. Same for Flacco - another stationary QB with no mobility. At least Stafford with the Rams is a fit within LaFleur's limited skillset.
LaFleur made Wilson stand in the pocket and throw out of a silo.
The passing lanes that White and Flacco could throw over the line to get to Wilson was too short to work with. Wilson needs to move and have the scheme set up to his ability to be mobile and throw on the move and open up lanes while doing so. Trying to have a shorter guy throw over the line is stupid. Sean Payton will create lanes for him. Payton had his own short guy in Drew Brees and successfully created an offense for him. And Brees didn't have Wilson's mobility or athleticism.
The Jets organization is an effing mess. If you've been a fan since Ryan and maybe before haven't you figured that out yet?

    • @Jcd5596
      @Jcd5596 Před 23 dny

Lafleur comes from the Shanahan system designed around outside zone runs and mobile pockets designed around play action. Idk where you're getting that Lafleur asked wilson to stand in the pocket the whole time and throw without moving. I'd also like for you to name me a successful QB who's unable to stand in the pocket and throw. I also don't know why you call wilson a small QB. He's 6 ft 2. That's pretty average. If wilson ever takes a snap in a Denver uniform, it'll take all of 1 quarter before Payton is frustrated with Zach holding onto the ball forever and inability to play in structure. If Russell wilson wasn't good enough, Zach has no chance.
Mike white played 2 years as a jet and started 7 games. He never refused to play. Never asked for a trade or release. He even resigned after the 22 season. Idk how u can say he left town as quickly as he could.

NY Jets owner treats the team’s players as just an expense line to be managed. Woody’s team valuation appreciates every year …. 7th most valuable team in NFL hasn’t made the playoffs in over a decade…. And hires and cycles the best worst coach available . Yet long waiting list for PSLs and Season Tickets. Wasted energy and money on a loser franchise. - Lifelong Jets Fan

Jets/Hackett are playing Payton, making him look bad bc they know Wilson will continue to suck

Payton is equal parts arrogance/overrated. Jets knew he’d take the bait; Payton is deluded enough to think he can fix Zach

How can a coach look bad if he can't restore a broken player traded for a late-round swap? The risk is zero.

Wilson should have never been drafted #2. That basically sealed his fate.

Very little. No matter the situation, a good quarterback shows SOMETHING before becoming good. Zach Wilson has been bad since entering the league, and when he had shown flashes, he only elevated his game to mediocre, not good. He probably got overdrafted because he shined during a Covid year in college.

Zach Wilson is one of the worst QBS of all time

It’s the Jets of course. And NY media gets their hands on a blue-eyed, blond haired Mormon with a hot attention seeking mom? Widly entertaining but ultimately a car crash.

The blame is on his parents. He grew up in an environment where having sex with his mother's friends was on the table.
