My friend worked as a carpenter with Harrison once. They were working on a big producer's home. As they were working, he asked him if he had done any acting lately, and he replied, "Yeah, it's called "Star Wars." My friend asked him what it was about, and he said, "it's like a space opera. Check it out and tell me what you think." My friend saw it that week and was so excited about it that he had to tell Harry that night, and went to his little house in the Hollywood Hills to tell him that the movie was going to make him a star, but nobody was home. He knew Harry always kept his kitchen window open, so he crawled through it, found a piece of paper and a pen, wrote a small note, and left it on his refrigerator door. On it he wrote: "Dear Harry. Your carpentry days are over."

I don't think he hates Star Wars, he just gets irrate with people who think he's a fan of Star Wars.
    He is not.
If you wanted to talk about Star Wars as a film, a project he worked on, he's fine. But when you talk about it, like it really happened, he has none of it.

Mark Hamill said that while filming Star Wars, Harrison Ford had a notebook with him where he would write things related to the character of Solo, creating, for himself, a background story to justify Solo's actions and demeanor. You can't hate something if you are that involved.
I think the perception that he hates Star Wars comes from the fact Lucas denied him what would have become a legendary cinematic heroic arc by having Solo die to save his friends and loved ones. I would have hated to see Solo die back then, but also, I can recognize he had a very good idea, and can understand what bugs him...
Also, it would be fun to read what he came up with for Solo's motivations!

@@strangevisions5162 Let's agree to disagree about the quality of PKD's writing. For me, Dick's books never fail to provoke deep consideration of the idea behind them so I consider them to be among the very best literary works.
Often, what he doesn't write is more telling than what he does and I think his subtle style is probably the reason some people don't like his writing. If you haven't already, try reading Ubik.

It is not true that Han Solo survived because of toy sales. That is an urban legend. Lucas always cared about the story first and foremost. He wanted a happy ending.
The disney trilogy is not Star Wars 7-8-9. Those movies are in an alternate universe according to George Lucas, and according to in-universe logic.

Star Wars was partially inspired by Akira Kurosawa's magnificent film "Hidden Fortress," which begins with two fools in a desert, helping a princess find a pirate adventurer to regain her throne. I don't consider myself better than Spielberg -though perhaps a little more creative. The fact is that most Spielberg films are just nostalgic imitations of earlier movies, that may have had a tiny amount of Spielberg's budget, but better scriptwriting and storyline. But to beat these 2 movies: Indiana Jones and Star Wars to death with sequels realy exposes Spielberg's weaknesses.

My absolute favorite movie Harrison Ford played in is "ENDERS GAME"!
As I have read this book ( at least 3x), the character was very strong and brought a sense of reality/emotion to the role.
And there is "Indiana Jones and the Ark of the Covenant", fabulous work...

    • @GaryJRobinson
      @GaryJRobinson Před 11 měsíci +2

I enjoyed Ender's Game right up untill the part were they told the characters that they had been participating in a real battle and that it wasn't a training excerise. I'm sure that worked in the book, but in the movie it fell completely flat. I could see what they were trying to acheive but it just didn't trasnlate onto the screen which is a shame as it was pretty much the climax of the movie. There was simply no reaction in the theatre. That always stuck with me as I wondered how the director and producer couldn't see this when they were working on the film. Cheers!

This can’t be an actual human on an entertainment/pop culture type channel who doesn’t know who Roger Ebert is (Ebb-ert) or even Peter Travers (Tray-vers). The biggest move critic of all time and one of the Top 5 or 10 most well-known movie critics of all time, respectively. I try to be respectful of anyone who puts in the time to create content like this-but at the same time, this is the dude’s job. And also botching Ann Heche’s pronunciation (Hetch? WTF??).

I was working at a house in LA back in 1976 ish
    Hanging Wallpaper
Harrison ford was there making a water bed for the owner who's name was Fred Roos it's was a dumpy house in one of the caynons in the area
He's was a real Pro and his work 2 to none
This I think was before Star Wars because at that time I remember him as the guy who drove the 55 chevy in American Graffiti
It's how it was back then
    Good times.

While your biography is filled with good info, your graphics and name pronunciation need a recheck. Some dollar amounts need correction. Additionally, please correct your pronunciation of French words like "denouement " and names like Ebert and Travers to name just a couple. The errors are glaring and yank the audience out of the commentary.
