As someone quite rightly pointed out, make sure you pump the brake pedal before driving! I forgot to include that in the video.
I personally always clean the brake piston before pushing it back home so i have less chance of pushing crap past the dust seal and against the caliper seal
The fact you're doing all these videos on a Fabia is perfect.. we've just upgraded to a Fabia Estate, so these are even more accurate!
As clear and concise as you can get. You make it look so easy. Great video!
Thanks for choosing a solid good, honest car to show us what you do. Great vid, thank you.
Nice to see you back it’s been a while
Ok might be a little late to comment but hey some ppl are a little slow 😂 Great upload. You’ve taught me in detail how to do my own breaks - SAVING ME A FORTUNE! - Thanks mate. Looking forward to next project. Keep em coming !
Nice video. Thanks for the good idea of using the g-clamp.
Yesss mate I’m gonna do this myself at the weekend. Abso brilliant for putting this up mate 🤝
It's good to see you pay attention to all the little bits, i.e wheel wedges and axle stands etc. Recently I had a scissor jack collapse on me, stripped the threaded rod right out. I'd never go under a car on any jack alone without something to back it up, but those scissor jacks have a very short life span. Once you've wound them up and down a few times they weaken quickly. I'd be a leg down if I didn't stick to my guns that going under a car without a stand is a death wish. People just don't get it. Jack's go and go fast. No time for mistakes when you have over a ton on your head.
Excellent video easy to understand really nice you helping someone in the process with there car 🚗 👍🏽
love your project cant wait for the corsa project as i am haveing the same problem with power steering gasket leaking into my cabin
Thank you very much for sharing. I will try to follow in a good weather day.
Nice one, going to change my pads now, thanks.
Thanks from Romania .
Great job . Very helpful
Merry Christmas, you are awesome ,thnx 👍👍👍👍👍
I used that make on my c3 picasso there really good for europarts cheapest ones no brake dust and the milage we do they last a good amount of time
Only recently sub your channel will make my life easier doing my brakes pads now cheers
excellent video☺
great content
Good video mate
This might be a suggestion for the next brake video you do. Most mechanics are well aware of how to change brakes on vehicles, however many people that are trying to attempt this for themselves will watch your video on here and think no bother I'll do my own brake pads which is fantastic.
However I really think you should add in somewhere about pumping the brake pedal when there done as there's nothing worse then getting in a car to find out someone's changed the brakes without doing it and bang straight into a car person etc.
Just a heads up mate more than anything
we need more videos !
Nice video m8
Hello, I have an identical Fabia (same colour even) what jacking point did you use when you jacked it up the first time? I saw the axel stands were on the bolts of the control arms?
Hi just found this very useful. hop it the same for fabia 1.6tdi. Can you please show us how to change Gear oil. couldnt find the fill plug. thanks
Straight to the point, good solid video on a simple brake pad job. Nice one!
Looks as though it could do with a clean as well
I have changed many a break pad on my cars over the years so watching this is like pulling teeth!
Except for one thing....the genius of using the OKs break pad to help wind back the caliper...have never seen this before...well done.
very similar set up to the ford focus. mistake i made as order 300mm discs when i needed 278, i did a video on doing mine but editied it from 1h to 5 mins, i wish i zoomed in but forgot
can y do the rear brake shoes as well
Great video can I just ask where you got your jack from? Looks alot better than my Aldi one
To be honest, I think more or less any "full size" jack would be better than one of those small ones (whether from Aldi or elsewhere) for anyone doing work on a car on a fairly regular basis. They usually allow you to jack the car up quicker, higher and are more stable.
Take a look at places like Machine Mart, Toolstation, Halfords or even eBay.
Just be aware of minimum height (some jacks require more room under the car and won't go under some lower sports cars for example) and maximum height. And unless you're jacking up anything heavier than a range rover, most jacks can handle most of what we do.
I'm loving the poppy mate I wear mine with pride too fantastic video fantastic editing great job nice to see you did not use copper grease on them pins I don't know how many times I've seen people do that it's not a good idea
bodgit and leggit garage shouldnt put normal grease on them either. rubber grease or silicone grease
mark piper I use Molly Greece it's fantastic
i just use ceratec for brakes (pads and contact areas) and castrol red rubber grease on the guide pins. copper grease is old hat now among decent mechanics.
Graham Reid there is absolutely nothing wrong with using copper grease on pads I've used it for years and I also use it on my rally car never had a problem on some of the new modern cars they have a special new Ally bellhousing built into the break discs and have special calipers on these particularly cars they do recommend using different Greece but on everything else you will not have a problem
What gloves do you use if you don't mind me asking
Where abouts do jack up on the fabia? Noticed you put the axle stands under the sill
So those gloves didnt come in pairs I guess;) Nice work anyway.👍
Can you still use pads without sensor? Ive just installed new pads without sensors and the warning brake lights is appearing on the dashboard
nice video buddy, my mk2 fabia doesn't have those caliper springs on it, ??? those pins arent cheap, 9 quid each and the thread is a M9. last time i let somebody (skoda dealer) do my brakes
Any thoughts on whether it's preferable to push the brake fluid back into the reservoir, when retracting the caliper, or open the bleed nipple and drain it?
On cars with ABS systems, you are "supposed" to open the bleed nipple when you push the piston(s) back. I don't really know of anyone who does or has had a problem from not doing that (that's not to say no one hasn't).
My preferred option is to open the bleed nipple for two reasons. One is that you are changing some brake fluid. Secondly without use bleed nipples have a nasty habit of seizing up. Which is a right pain when you do need to change the fluid.
Not trying to hate im just wondering are you ment to change the discs at the same time?
It really depends upon the condition and amount of wear on the discs. In my opinion, those were getting close to needing to be changed and probably will have to be done the next time the pads are done.
Ooo a good looking mechanic :O a rare sight indeed
Always check the parts are right before starting
wollywotsit well the pads were correct.. I ordered the ones with the sensor just in case but knew I could cut it off if it wasn't needed
The Savage Garage cool, I mean open them up before starting in case the supplier sent totally the wrong thing. I took a fuel pump out of a Peugeot once, when I opened the package it was an indicator lease sent in error, annoying as I had the car apart
7:23 is that brake fluid leaking from the backside?
why does my 2010 mk2 brakes look completely different? I watched multiple videos none is like mine
Probably a silly question but we all got to start somewhere 🤣 but is this the same process for the rear brakes ? Or is there a difference ?
Almost every time YES. Because nearly all cars these days are disc brakes on the back too. The exception may be a few older commercial vehicles, particularly ones that can tow a few tons. Do realize that in ALL cars regardless of front or rear wheel drive, the front pads wear far faster and you'll likely replace the front 3 times for every 1 back replacement. It's just a momentum thing because you're usually driving forwards so the front brakes take most of the load.
You had some brake fluid coming out when using the C Clamp. I would get yourself a wind-back tool.
ziggy2070 where?
The Savage Garage ziggy2070 looks like brake dust. not brake fluid
The Savage Garage at around 7:20 , back of the piston
I recently did my brake pads and disks all round on my Zafira mk1, and they have a piece of metal sticking out, but its not to make a circuit and show a light, it just scores against the disk, then you can hear it when you are driving. I think you rushed the cleaning of the caliper, as I used a bigger wire brush and got a grinder with a wire brush attachment on, and it brought them up nicely. Also, if it has abs, I was advised to use Ceratec instead of copper grease, because metallic particles can get in the abs sensor. Im not criticising, but like to comment, and I learn from your videos. Add me to Facebook, it was me talking about soot in egr and intake manifold. Look up Andrew Mckenna on Facebook.
As one person already touched on .. NEVER use grease or copper grease on the threaded portion of any brake retaining component or wheel fasteners. It can cause them to loosen spontaneously and is very dangerous.
Elliott Peters when did I do that?
The Savage Garage You dipped the pins in grease and smeared it around with your finger before refitting .. including the threads. They are actually supposed to be fitted using a small amount of thread locking compound. I am not criticising you in particular .. I think your videos are great. Just making a safety comment in general.
I would have given the brake carrier a better clean and I would have cleaned the brake caliper.
Are eicher brake pads any good ? Do you get any issues with them
Dddd Cccc I recommend Pagid. alternatives would be eicher or brembos
I wouldn't recommend them, I'd go for Pagid pads!
Apec are very good aswell
What about Mintex pads and discs ?. Never had any issues with them.
Great pads yes you can get better I've used them on my c3 picasso with no problems and very little break dust
Anyone know why he jacked up on the wishbone and not the sills ? Seen my mechanic do the same.Would like to know the reason behind this??
kas m Yes when your lifting with a trolley jack the sills can get crushed very easily. Different story when using a lift as the whole vehicle will rise each corner level.
kas m I always jack up on a wishbone or similar, dont trust sill jacking points and saves you crushing or damaging someone's car .
no muff to tough we dive at 5
Thank you, I have just purchases a Skoda Fabia, 2012 model as Skoda in there STUPID wisdom decided to leave this vehicle with a PUNTURE repair kit ONLY, no spare wheel MADNESS, I was told the the VW Golf wheels fits the Skoda Fabia, is this TRUE?..can you are any of the good readers please let me know, BIG thank you Ray in Norwich city
Don't use cooper grease
Thanks dude for the advise really useful despite getting the advise from an Eminem stunt double reject
Cheers bro
I promise you I will tell no lies lol ----That was the first one lol
7:24 leak detected
I zoomed in on it several times, it seems to be just dust.
3:45 VW and audi symbols on the caliper....
That’s because Skoda is owned by VAG - is basically put together with spare parts
