Are there some edge cases where this isn't true, and the tire ruptures instead of steadily deflating? Yes, there always will be. However, these cases are rare. Usually, a vehicle will go out of control due to the suspect attempting to avoid the strip, however. Not the spikes.

There was a RV chase throughout the county I live in a few years ago. I was a paramedic at the time and repeatedly staging in various areas close to the chase incase someone crashed. The sheriffs deputies took out 2 of their own cars with their spike strips, and got the RV but it kept running at 25-30 mph for a good 30 minutes đ one of the towns police chiefs T boned it as soon as they came into his town to stop it. The chase took over an hour because the SO was just driving behind it waiting for it to stop I guess.
