Chevy Rollback Revival! 60+ miles, no engine, on the road and towing after 10+ years?

- Me and Ike bought a 83 Chevy c30 rollback. Oh with no engine, can we just show up with an engine an hour and a half away and stab it in and drive it home 60 miles to go tow a 3500 hd? How many times does it overheat?

I've seen drywall screws used for lots of things, but I think this is a first for seeing one used as a brake port plug. Waiting to see what other hackery gets uncovered on this one.

I'm a Ford guy but I will say that gm does have some vehicles that could go to the moon and back with all the abuse, but the next one off the line couldn't make it off the lot. When you find that runner don't touch it.
You are correct...Gm with iron heads can cook over and over. 4.3 does same, and I'm sure its part of the reason Buick 3.8 last like they do. Iron heads =same rate of expansion....don't start asking about LS stuff because I don't know how it stays together when they cook. But they seem to have solid enough sealing surfaces
I adore these old work trucks. I currently own a 77 C30 with a mechanical wrecker bed, and an add on hydraulic wheel lift. Its also a 350 4spd truck. But i keep looking at square body roll backs like this one. I want one

When loading things on your rollback. Roll your bed forward like 95% of the way before you tilt it down, leaving it way back and tilting it down puts a lot of leverage and weight back. Good way to bend your bed and break stuff. Funny chanel,just found you tonight. Liked and subscribed.

That steel deck tilt is heavy but you can beat the hell out of it way more than an aluminum one.
Those big tires will leak right out the side if they're dryrotted - ask me how I know.

My friend down in Mohawk had one like this and the biggest issue with it was it leaked hydraulic fluid like a bastard.
If you need another parts truck I have a '93 GMC 3500 dually you could drive home. Not that far away maybe an hour. I used it to haul a few cars off the hill in Mohawk. But it's a POS.

@@CompleteToiletGarage Best thing about it is the NV4500 5-speed in it. Worst thing about it, I had to get a floor mat and put it down along the left side of the floor, or it would throw a mist of water in off the tires through a little gap in the floor, if the road was wet.
Dude I know this sounds like some uppity shit but the Eastwood brake line tool is worth every penny. Course you can’t really use it except in a vise but perfect every time. Brake lines were a pain in the ass until I got this. It’s Chinese and you can find the same thing like $20 cheaper without the Eastwood name. Tried like 5 of those stupid little clamp kits first including OTC and they can all go fuck themselves I haven’t even given them to my brother second hand because I like him.
Should of put the headers on while the engine was up in the air at a 45 degree angle. It should have just went in and then tighten the mounts.
z bar is in the way on the drivers side.the header wasnt designed to clear it

Other than an old small block the only other motor that can do that is 3hundie 6 the one on the car crusher I used to run just thrived off of abuse in neglect that thing would just run off bad gas and used oil because it leaks so bad I drain it out of a car and had more and I'm not even a ford guy you just couldn't kill it lmfbo. Are you up in NY? I hauled home a 85 GMC tow truck. I've got it all operating and now I'm working on a 4x4 conversion for it. I've been looking for a rollback forever. You got a nice hauler project going on.
If you're going to use it, which is what it's for, right?... I'd pop in a 5.9 Cummins from around 96-2004. You cannot beat the low rpm torque and high MPG.
I have a 2004.5 dually and it gets me 18-24ish MPG loaded or not it doesn't give a damn and 18-20 MPG at least!!.. all day every day.
You don't need to turn it up. Stock 100% she'll do all you ever want.
I'm still planning on finding one like yours. I'll be doing an oldie body swap, squarebody frame, and 5.9 for the win.
