They won K-pop star audition in 2013. They were just teenagers at that time. Before they become singers, they lived mongolia and they used to sing together as a hobby. I think that's why they could have good relationship even though they are siblings.
And the brother compose all their songs including lylics which are very great and unique.
Their harmonies are amazing and Chunhyuk sounds great, but Suhyun sounds like an angel and Disney princess. She makes my ears so happy. I discovered them a couple of years ago and they've been my favorite k-pop group since. There's always something so fresh and creative about them!

Chanhyuk (older brother) is the main comporser and lyricist of all their music, while Suhyun (little sister) is the main vocalist of AKMU ("Akdong Musician", sibling duo). They're 3 years apart in age. They have very different personalities and comfort zones, which is why they fight a lot... (Suhyun is a social butterfly who makes friends everywhere she goes, but she also likes to go with the flow and lacks ambition, which tends to frustrate her brother. Chanhyuk is a protective big bro, but he's also prone to nagging her, always challenging her to do more. He's proactive and ambitious, more introverted but also high energy. Clever, hardworking and endlessly inspired.) I suppose it could be considered love-hate dynamic, but their nuclear family has always been very close knitted.
Their parents are very religious and also very affectionate with them. Seems like they received a lot of positive reinforcement growing up, even though their family struggled finantially. They were homeschooled since they were pre-teens, and lived abroad in Mongolia during middle school years, which is why they grew up spending a lot of time together. Music was their main hobby as kids and they became famous by winning a music competition TV show. They won that competition largely thanks to how refreshingly original their songs are, in fact, most of the songs they wrote during the competition became hits in Korea.
Chanhyuk is a extremely creative, he uses a lot of onomatopoeias, unusual rhymes or caccophonies, quirky metaphors... You can recognize his style even when he writes a song for a different singer. He writes about familial relationships, friendship, romantic love, growing up, his insecurities, his fears, his dreams, etc. For example, they have a song about being grateful for what your body does for you (How People Move), a song about standing up for yourself when you're bullied for not fitting into beauty standards (Play Ugly), a song about how some adults can be detached and condescending towards children (Melted), a song that uses sea animals as a metaphor for the importance of freedom and how some people want to take that away from others (Whale), etc. Chanhyuk released a solo album called "ERROR", and Suhyun has dived a little into acting. She had her solo debut with a song called "Alien", but she has struggled at times with being in the industry/that hectic life style. Chanhyuk already did his mandatory military service (he went early and chose to join the marines, he even wrote a song for the korean marines).
AKMU's music has evolved through time. Originally, they became known for their cheerful, humorous and heartwarming songs, a sound filled with wide-eyed wonder, child-like youthfulness, innocent eagerness and playful energy. Their sound mixed genres but was mostly influenced by folkloric music, church music, jazz, with minimalistic instrumentals and vocal harmonies. Chanhyuk would do backup vocals, alibis and rap too. Their funny temperamental bikering became their brand. Their music has slowly incorporated more modern production, dived into 80s synth pop, korean indie, touching ballads... Occasially being melancholic or introspective.
Koreans think they are very close siblings. At the same time, we say we understand even if they say they will abandon the group at any time (joking). Instead, I hope their parents don't scold them about that (joking as well).
