  • Self-medicating depression is rarely advisable. But if so, why do so many people turn to legal and illicit substances instead of seeking safer and more reliable treatments from medical doctors?

Alcohol and exercise are my ways of self medicating. I find I just want that peaceful, calm feeling and alcohol/exercise does give me that....problem is you can't exercise constantly to balance your mood. I have found Drs a little patronising to eat well, drink water and exercise. I have to do that to feel like depression without any medication. I'm not taking anything at the moment, though I really want to try trinellex, whether I'll be able to get it in the UK is another thing. It's usually sertraline. I think SSRIS are becoming more stigmatized especially in health circles/diet. I have tried the carnivore diet and other keto type diets for my depression and it didn't do anything for me. I'd be interested if it did for you?
