- I have marginal wood working talent, and basic tools, but armed with Roger Musson’s wheel building book which contains drawings for making this wooden truing stand, I achieved a result that performs well the task of working on wheels.
As Mr Musson will tell you, the wooden structure allows for tensioning spokes by ear as it amplifies the note of the spoke when plucked. A tension metering tool isn’t necessary.
In my case I followed his note sounding method, then used the meter to record the resulting spoke deflections.
This was a nice satisfying little project to make, and I’ve used it successfully. If you have more skill than I, you’ll make a better rendition of the tool. There are many fine examples on the web to view. - Jak na to + styl
3:12 woah! not a bad location for a workshop!
That little shop makes me happy just sorting nuts and bolts in it. But it’s multipurpose: bake shop, general repairs, bike repairs, minor woodworking and recently, set up to do blade sharpening. I have Japanese knives to take care of.
Thanks for your nice comment!
Excellent! Looks like you've put in a lot of time and effort building the wheel jig and gauges. I've still to build mine.
Thanks very much for your nice comments. I enjoyed the process a lot. Good luck on yours!
Hi Unibiker I just built Roger Mussons wheel dishing gauge, awesome tool, for a trueing stand i just use an old bike frame with a strip of wood tied there by rubber bands, its very very acurrate and the frame will never move out of true being steel frame, cheers
The bike frame truing stand is tried and true for sure. If you get a chance you should show me some photos of your dishing tool and set up. Cheers!
