I make meals for 4 and I can usually get 5 portions out of it. I freeze the extras and use them as ready meals at a later date when I don’t want to cook or need a quick meal saving on buying a takeaway.

Hi new subscriber today love your video.
OK I am a bit of a mizer with saving literally pennies
Tip 1; Consider Adding 1 maybe 2 ice cubes to your children's cold soft drinks or your own as this uses less drink so it will go further before having to buy again also with pure fruit juice when the carton is empty add a tiny splash of water shake the carton and add that to the drink your child won't notice lol
Tip 2; Got guests making 3 cups of tea you don't need 3 tea bags as 2 standard strength tea bags is enough for 3 cups fill enough water in a tea pot. Possibly measure a line on a tea pot.
Tip 3; I buy the blue milk (full strength) usually 4 pinter works out better value but when that carton is finished I add a splash like 3 tablespoons of water to the carton and shake the carton and add this watered down milk to a breakfast cereal or milkshake next day. With the blue milk you can get away with adding up to 15% water to your breakfast cereal without really noticing I have done this for years. Makes the milk last enough for a couple more teas and coffees. Also I went down slightly on the sugar user to take 2 now I take ¾ of tea spoon
Tip 4; Buy a bar of soap and have this next to the liquid soap in the bathroom the rest of the family may wash using the liquid soap and it runs out fast but if I use the bar of soap which is cheaper the liquid soap lasts longer for the family.
Tip 5; If you are cooking a roast or anything in the oven for a while chuck in a few large potatoes on another shelf and you are getting jacket potato cooked for no energy and this will last for a few days if you store it, perfect for a quick lunch snack.
Tip 6; Got a family buy the medium sliced loaves of bread instead of thick sliced it may not be your personal preference but you get more sliced per loaf so will need to buy less loaves so often.
Tip 7; Grow herbs in a box or trough on the windowsill if you do well you can even give some to friends and family. I have chives, basil, mint, rosemary growing. Mint and honey tea is nice 👌

An add on the the hot water tip. I did that for when my babies were babies. They both had to be formula fed. So I would heat water in the morning for the first bottle and then pour it into a thermos for the rest of the day's bottles. Worked great for when we'd go out too. I wouldn't have to worry about microwaving bottles or finding hot water. And the baby didn't have to drink cold bottles. I loved it.

As for the hot water tip.... I do the same but for made coffee... I take my reuseable cup for my first coffee and take a second cup in an insulated cup and it stays hot for me for my afternoon coffee... so I make my entire work day's coffee before going to work and save loads of money and still get my two coffees for the work day.

A tip for electric car drivers. Look into free or cheap charging/parking in your area. Near us we have a Tesco which has free chargers, my OH will park in Tesco then walk or run to the gym, we have also used them to stop on journeys rather than using service stations. We also have a train station car park which offeres free charging , you have to pay for parking, we park either in the evening or weekend at a cheap rate then run or walk home. This is cheaper than charging at home and gets us exercise too.

As a hairdresser, I do agree, especially coloured or blond hair need conditioner as you need to close cuticles back as shampoo opened it, especially you still your heat on to style your hair, you need some protection, you have short hair and cut it more often then who is growing hair long so tools damage hair more then conditioner, rest of it nice to know 🤍

I make my own laundry detergent, 2 ways either by boiling conkers or English ivy or changing bicarbonate of soda into washing soda and use that. And have a stain stick when needed, then it's plastic free and practically free, I've done this for 4 years and saved me so much £££ (and I have the bicarbonate of soda because I make all my own cleaning products for around the house, which again is better for the environment, your health and budget friendly)

Hi Lara, I'm a new subscriber and really enjoyed hearing all the great tips 🙂 I heard a good frugal tips on Frugal Queen in France where she suggested having navy showers where you turn the shower on to wet your hair and body, turn the shower off soap up and then turn on the shower again to rinse off. This would save a lot of energy and water over time. I've just made a cuppa and have put the rest of the hot water into my flask for my next drink like you suggested 👍😊

I've done the parking and walking one for 30 years. I'm too tight to pay for parking so always park a mile from my town centre, where it's free, and walk. If I'm going to a different town I look on Google street view to see where I can park. I have honestly only paid for parking fewer than 20 times in 30 years. 😂 I also cycle if the journey is fewer than four miles.

I’m glad this vídeo focus on the usual things we do but in a more cost efficient way. I don’t necessarily agree when the first recommendation is something like ‘get rid of your Netflix subscription’. If Netflix helps one relax after a stressful day at work, it might be the thing to keep, for instance.
I understand it might be the right thing to do for some people, but any recommendation needs to come with the disclaimer that if what you’re cutting might significantly impact your wellbeing/remove little moments of joy, perhaps it’s not really the right thing to do. I really enjoyed the originality of many of the ideas in this video.

Not getting a driver's licence was a money saver (for the most part). It's not limiting enough for me that I have to get one and I don't feel safe behind the wheel so I'm fine with this.
For more useful advice: don't use a dryer, it's bad for your clothes and and the environment (it takes a lot of energy). I hang dry my clothes and it works great (and I don't have the space for a dryer or the money to get one so this is great. I also don't have room for a big freezer so I make do with the tiny one that was already here). The batch cook thing still works though. I just store it in the fridge and make sure to eat it before it spoils. Not including animal products helps a lot with this.
If you have a way to pre rinse your dishes so the major stuff gets off you can also do the dishes less often. Either wait until your dishwasher is entirely filled up (and try to do as many of the pots and pans by hand as possible to prevent unexpected damage that sometimes happens in the machine) or do it by hand once or several times per week. Obviously this only works if you're living on your own or maybe as a couple and are both fine with it but it still works.
I also got an airfryer not that long ago since I tend to bake and grill most of my stuff and love to make fries at home. It saves baking oil, energy, and excess calories noone needs. It also saves dishes. The thing is easy to rinse out and otherwise clean without dishwater so that a nice little bonus. I would otherwise use a microwave oven and a gas stove but this is so much easier. Also so I can make food fresly more often without wasting it.
And yes, I do store bread in the freezer and just take out the pieces I need when I want to eat it. Two or three slices don't take that long to defrost. When it's really hot it doesn't even take 10 minutes. I also get flash frozen fruit and make my own ice cubes (including ones from coffee and tea so my iced beverages can stay cold but don't dilute when the ice melts). Why buy stuff you can make yourself for a fraction of the cost? Especially when there's literally no difference. I don't need to travel much, but when I do I do get coffee or snacks along the way, especially on long train travels. I don't get what some people have against others getting a coffee on the go now and then. I do see what they mean if people with money issues to it every day or several times a day. It's not that hard to brew good coffee to taste at home and it's costs so much less, generally. It depends on the coffee you buy to brew with of course. That's another place where you can buy smart. Try several brands of coffee beans/grounds to see what you like best and brew them at different strengths. Experimnet at home to find what you like and then stick with it as much as possible. Same goes for people who like tea better. Find the tea you like best and try brewing it in different ways.
I recently discovered that making cold brew coffee at home and when done you can store it in the fridge for several days. It takes less effort that making a hot coffee and less energy since the fridge is there already anyway. And it's perfect for cold drinks (or reheated since there's practically no bitter in it, contrary to coffee that's brewed with hot water).

After cooking leave the oven door open to let the residual heat warm your home. (keep children out the kitchen)
