In this clip which was an extra on the DVD, Paul tells Mary McCartney about an encounter with a photographer in 1969.
    Enjoy!

Yes, and it’s more amazing still to realize that there was a point in time when you could walk up to EMI Recording Studios (later Abbey Road Studios), knock on THAT door and ask for anyone! I’m a great Laurel & Hardy fan, and it blows my mind that Stan Laurel kept his name, address and phone number in the white pages all of his life, frequently having fans who were utter strangers in for visits. I doubt he’d do so today.

I live about 30 miles south of the general area of Hollywood where all the studios are located. I ran into Jack Lemon in a quiet italian restaurant having lunch with his manager, quite the friendly chap who came over and talked to us after finishing lunch. Also ran into New Yorker David Byrne walking on the street, seems nobody else knew who he was; he was in town to finish up some negotiations and rehearsing for a new project.

I met Paul and Linda at Billboard Magazine at 9000 Sunset in LA. They were absolutely charming. My uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising for Billboard Magazine. Paul and Linda came to his office at 9000 Sunset in LA to sign the advertising agreement for Wings first album. The album had the Live and Let Die soundtrack on it for the new 007 movie. The year was 1972.
I was 13 years old. Peter had to go down the hall and make some changes to the contract so I was left alone with Paul and Linda in the southern conference room. I said to Paul "I can't believe it's you and you're actually here." Paul replied "everybody has to be somewhere."
I asked Linda " Are you related to Eastman Kodak?"She said "No everybody always asks that."
I said "Oh I'm sorry." Linda said "And then they apologize." I said "Okay let's just enjoy each other's company and look out the window." We were standing on the top floor of 9000 Sunset and you could see a great deal of LA looking South. I said "Oh my God it's like somebody went completely crazy with concrete and asphalt as far as the eye can see."
Paul chimed in "Completely crazy with concrete and asphalt." Linda said "It is like an ocean of concrete and asphalt as far as you can see with islands of big buildings sticking up out of it." We laughed and looked out the window and commented on the bizarre spectacle that is LA. We enjoyed each other's company for about 15 minutes and my uncle returned with the contract. Paul signed the contract everybody said thank you and goodbye and Paul and Linda headed for the elevator. Paul and Linda were an elegant couple their manners and grace set me at ease. Later that day on the way home Peter asked me what I thought of Paul and Linda. I said "They seem like regular people to me." Peter said "They are regular people with exceptional jobs." Thank you Paul I haven't forgotten. Take care and be well.

@@GrantTarredus Paul said he was really excited to have the album.
I asked him why? He said he needed the work. I asked him why? He said he needed the money. I said but you're a Beatle. Paul said "that was in the sixties" and the way he said it was as if he was talking about a part he had it in a sitcom a decade ago. Paul told me that living as a Beatle was expensive. That no matter who you are money has a way of running in one side of your life and out the other. The royalties from his publishing wouldn't kick in for some time. Paul had to stay relevant.
My uncle Peter told me that Paul
was working as an A&R man for Capitol Records. This really changed my perspective. There was a time when the Beatles were over. Paul had to work to stay relevant. That's why Paul and Linda were so happy with their success outside of the Beatles. Paul McCartney is one of the most personable human beings I have ever met. A year later he sent me the 1973 McCartney family calendar through my Uncle Peter Heine at Billboard Magazine with a special hello from Paul McCartney. Paul is the kind of guy who remembers a thirteen-year-old kid. He truly is a gentleman. I got to hang out with Elton John at the Performing Artist of the Year Awards in 1974. Elton John was also excellent company and so were Allen and Mariland Bergemann- they wrote The Way We Were for Barbra Streisand. I didn't realize how lucky I was to meet these people. Peter was always taking me to parties in Los Angeles. People I had seen on The Tonight Show attended the parties. I just thought the world was a very small place. Now that I'm older I look back and laugh at it because it really was exceptional. Take care and be well.

@@GrantTarredus I also think it's important that people really know that Paul McCartney is truly a nice guy. It's not an act. He is polite considerate and thoughtful and that's how he conducts himself.
He talked to me and spoke to me just as if I was a grown up.
      Totally honest and totally open-
      "Regular people with Incredible jobs."
My father said that when you meet somebody they become a person.
In 1971 I went with my Uncle Peter to David Geffen's house in the Hollywood Hills. He was having a party to celebrate the opening of Asylum Records. My uncle said "bring your swimsuit and a towel."
There was valet parking, the event was catered, and there were famous people everywhere. I spent the afternoon in a beautiful swimming pool with waterfalls and rocks, and large rubber fish that were held at different depths by monofilament lines attached to weights. My Uncle worked for Warner Brothers music before he went to work for Billboard Magazine -1965 New York. He got the gig with Billboard in California at 9000 Sunset for the majority of the 70s. David Geffen had also had worked for Warner Brothers music and this made them Kindred Spirits. David would buy advertising from my Uncle at Billboard. David Geffen was also a complete gentleman. I thanked him for lunch and the swim. I was fortunate I got to see the shiny side of LA- the advertising side- radio programming conferences at the Century Plaza Hotel. I also worked in a recording studio growing up and I got to see the not so successful side of the music industry. Take care and be well..

@@hikikomori_3708 no, but I have been a fan of his for over 50 years and have read enough credible books to know what happened. Right now I am reading the book The McCartney Legacy which is a well researched book, and they also write about this particular story. Paul likes to make himself look good in the eyes of the public. He always has. So he doesn't always tell the truth.

      Okay, can you enlighten us?

@@hikikomori_3708 the reason why the reporter and photographer went to his farm was to interview him for his reaction to the whole "Paul is Dead" rumors. Paul saw them and threw a bucket of slop at them and started running towards them as the photographer was taking pictures. He punched the photographer. So the two left Paul's property. As they were walking down the hill to get to their car, Paul, realizing what he did, jumped into his Land Rover and caught up with them. He apologized to them and said he would grant an interview with them if they handed over the film from the camera to him. In exchange, he would have Linda take pictures and have them sent to their office at Life Magazine. They agreed.
There is more to the story, but that's the jist of it.

@@TheSchemel I'll verify this. Although in Paul's defence I think he pretty much gave an accurate (or: accurate enough) summary of the ordeal.
