In Morecambe & Wise's 1980 Christmas Special, Peter Cushing makes another attempt to get the money he's owed for appearing in the M&W show in the early 70's
Living in Whitstable Kent , My Nan and Peter , were really close friends.. She would tell me so many wonderful stories About their daft antics, which I hold dear to my heart . Alas, sadly for my Nan , she had altzheimers near to her death and couldn't recall anything she once told me.. so I'm fortunate to have heard the stories prior to them both leaving this world and although I, personally , never actually met him in person... I truly felt I knew him, because of my Nans wonderful way of elaborating and drawing me into her world..
Peter Cushing the god emperor of horror. Met him many years ago on the street and before I could say anything he said good morning with a smile. He was the epitome of class.
Such a lovely man. He never really recovered from the death of his wife. Oh, how I would like him back, along with all the other great actors and entertainers of that time. However, I think that a true gentleman like Mr Cushing might feel out of place in our current rude and aggressive society.
Peter Cushing was a class act. I have all his Hammer Films. Speaking of Hammer Films, yesterday I went to see the new film Hugo, and guess who showed up? Christopher Lee! My goodness, Chris Lee just keeps going and going. He still has that phenomenal voice.
I was on holiday with the family many years ago in Kent and we saw Peter Cushing and being a big Hammer fan obviously wanted to go over but even then young as I was he had an air of not wanting to be disturbed so I didn’t. There are some you can just tell are open to being approached as I once spent the evening in the delightful company of a famous punk drummer once and others’ who are less open to being approached. Peter Cushing I believed was in the latter category but noticed he was greeted very warmly by the locals but only a courteous hello.
