They tried reinventing aoe2. Terrain decorations and walkable walls can't beat nicer graphics and clear, unobstructed view. 3d dimension doesn't add much but takes away a lot..

Maybe it's just me, but I remember my dad buying me AOE, AOE2 and AOM when it came it. Back then, I didn't have much of a care in the world, but I learned about history and mythology so much more than any teacher in school could have motivated me to. I played the stress test this weekend and my money will not be wasted. There was a flood of nostalgia and to me, as a parent now, would love for my daughter to pick this up eventually. I have a feeling she would love it. Waiting for the campaigns for final judgement.

My one constructive critisism for the video is, trying to stretch it out to 60 reasons was a bad idea, as a sc2 player you had some really good points in there about what makes micro near impossible, inability to select units from a group etc, but they were overshadowed by the silly ones, like "their last game failed"

info about AoE4 if I'm not mistaken, it was even before AoE2 DE. In 2017. Games in 2000' were released into public news cycle after something was already done. Currently it is just pitching a idea with almost zero proof of concept - and it kinda shows, because AoE4 DOES NOT look like game that had 4 year development cycle.
CoH3 in current development is almost barebones and I'm kinda suspecting it was just 1, maybe 2 years at best.

Your reason number 4, I agree. Companies should identify their audience better so they can create a good game that way. If it’s too broad, it will get messy. You can also tell that they’re focusing on Esports a lot. Another thing is that when you train military units, It takes forever. So, you construct more buildings, but they’re so big that you take up the whole map. Also, I hope it’s fixed, but for my friends and I, we were all random colors. I was blue, they were red, etc. For them, they were blue, I was yellow and so on. With this, we can’t call out which player is attacking us. AoE4 is so mediocre of a game there's nothing to look forward to. The fun you have playing this game is equal the fun of playing a zombie horde shooting game. Low quality, dumb fun! The devs can't even get some basic design right. Like if you gonna make unit able to move through buildings then create building models with a road outline so at least there's space between them and you can see units move between buildings naturally instead of just ghosting through them. Villagers harvesting carcass get all clumped up you can't tell if they're doing their job or not and it's annoying to pull on worker out to do other task because they're all clumped up to the carcass. In old AoE games and AoM every animals has a circle around them so when villagers harvest their carcass they'll spread out evenly around the carcass. Such basic detail and this game couldn't even get right.

I completely agree. They could've made it better. Its just too basic with nothing new. It doesn't give me that excitement and goosebumps I had when I saw AOE 3 and AOM for the first time. I am certain people will forget this within a month and go back to prev titles.

@@ChaosRevealsOrder AOE 3 is far from a failure my friend. It has a huge community and there are many people and youtubers who still play it. We can feel a lot of work was put in the game. It captured colonial era perfectly and was ahead of its time with its graphics and gameplay design. The music is also one of the best soundtracks ever. AOE 4 should have brought some new innovative ideas. Why the same basic stuff even after 20 years? We must admit that it doesn't look like triple A next gen 2021 game and won't be considered as one of the greats.

The UI is a joke and the icons are laughable. So many problems with this game and it is not deserving of having the aoe name.

As for me this is just nagging. I played AOE 2 and 3 a lot and I think that AOE 4 is a really good game. Since AOE is RTS (not FPS) graphics is ok (actually I really like this new style). UI a bit boring, but its very simple and straightforward, which is good for a tense game. Team colours are good too ( you will always see from which team which unit, even if you have vision problems). Gameplay is awesome too. It kept traditions from AOE 2 and dynamism from AOE 3 and AOE 4 also reminds me good old Stronghold Crusaders.

Maybe they should have added 8 more civilizations? That 60 US dollar price point would have been worth 60 price tag. I also have another problem too? Like with the Chinese they should have added more gunpowder units like the Crouching Tiger Cannon, Rocket Cart or Fire Cart, Flying Crow Rocket, 7 or 8 mast Junk Treasure ship, and a Musket unit called the Shenjiying 神机营 which is armed with the RAPID THUNDER BOLT GUN (迅雷銃) that was able too fire 5 rounds. They also had a weapon called Huolongchushui 火龙出水 the world's earliest multistage rockets and ballistic cruise missiles, fired at enemy ships in naval battles. It was used to strike fear into enemy troops and enemy ships.

I do not think that AOE 4 will be better than AOE 2 DE to the point where people will stop playing it. We'll see a shift of the player base move over to AOE 4 for a few weeks, and then all the hardcore players will 100% move over back to AOE 2 DE.
