Finally, there is a report on Batman which includes brief comments by former Batman writers Steve Englehart and Mike Friedrich.

This is a criticism i’ve never understood about the movie. This movie is just as much a batman movie as it is a joker movie. Batman’s character arc and story is shadowy and mysterious because that’s the point, it’s subtle. Batman is shadowy and mysterious and The Joker is wild and crazy. The juxtaposition adds to the characterization. One of the biggest reasons i feel this movie holds up

hmm...exactly. What I loved about Arkham Asylum was that it was very realistic (something that fans today want in all comic book superhero movies since Nolan's TDK trilogy), yet faithful to the comics and has the gothic noir style that fits Batman. The early Detective Comics days of Batman had both pulp fiction and gothic literature themes.

It's just weird that up until that time Adam West was the latest image people had of Batman in live action. I was really young at the time but I could still tell there was something not right about all that without fully knowing what satire was. All the Keaton stuff was a blur being so young but I distincly remember people not being happy about it. More depressing is rembering how long it took to get a Spider-Man movie made, there was actually a teaser trailer shown around that time before there was even a script. At various times between 1985 and 2000 you would hear rumors that they were about to start production with any number of actors/directors attached. Even when they were actually on set with Raimi and Maguire I thought it was bullshit yet again. It's crazy looking back and now realizing there have been five Spider-Man movies and have caster their third iteration. I'm not sure why I went on that Spider-Man rant out of nowhere. I think I'm just trying to say we're all awfully spoiled these days with comic movies compared to the 1980s when there were basically 2

When you think about it, Tim Burton's 1989 Batman really set the new standard for how the modern Batman would/should/is going to be. This really opened the door for the DARK knight in film media. I was 9 when this happened and it was an amazing era. I loved all the merchandize and fanfare that took place. The Batman TV series was put back on tv and I loved it (despite what the boys at 6:00 says I loved both.) At my school we collected the TOPPS brand trading cards. As an adult I got the whole set off of Ebay for $30, fulfilling my desire as a boy to have the set. I had the t-shirt the boy at 6:00 has as well. As for the movie? Well I had really gotten into the TV series by then (light hearted) and therefore it seemed very dark for me. I wasn't used to see such grown-up movies probably. But I still loved it. I much preferred the Batman in the movie than the TV series when it came time for role playing.

There was never a "times were simpler". Each generation is different and some of those people can't seem to understand that. Because they only reflect on the good things from each past generation, and then saying all the negative things about this generation.
Some of those people are ungrateful. (In my opinion) At least things are more better now.
