HOW TO Turn Off LIGHTS OUT Error on a Jeep JL Wrangler or JT Gladiator After Installing LED
Vložit

- TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS OUT is the error message Cindy and I saw on our dash EVIC soon after installing a set of blackout LED taillights on our Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. Of course, we knew this was most likely going to happen in spite of the fact that our JL came with LED lights and that's because the new blackout ones were made to replace a set of standard incandescent lights. And, while we thought this would be easy enough to fix, especially being that we have a Z Automotive Tazer installed, we soon found out that you actually need to do a very specific set of things to turn the error code off. In this video, you'll get to see what those things are and I should note, this will also work on a JT Gladiator and will even work for headlights, fog lights and even turn signal DRL lights.

You just showed a great reason to NOT change the LED tail lights!!
LOL - that may be true but as I note in the video, this will ALSO address new headlights, fog lights or even front turn signal lights. A change to them will ALSO cause the error to come on and this will get rid of it 😎
Yes, that’s silly, why have options for anything?!
@@wayalifeand you need to pass this process with each kind of light?
@Danifer_TV my experience if your changing them individually over time, then yes. If you change them all at one time, set up the right settings in tazer, do the process, then no.
Wow
I appreciate you as an aircraft mechanic who likes to do things correctly no matter what it takes
Finally, a video with clear instructions that ACTUALLY WORKS. thank you. This fixed the problem.
Glad it helped
Wow. Great video (as always). I haven’t dealt with this (yet) but holy cow, that’s a super secret hand shake if I’ve ever seen one. I’m sure folks out there will be happy you made this video.
Glad it was helpful!
That's black folks 5 minute handshake level right there. ha ha
Another great educational video. I’m sure this will help a number of people. Computers are so much fun!
Nothing would make us happier than to know our video is helpful to others.
After numerous attempts to fix my issue, this WORKED!!!! No more light out error on the turn signals. THANKS!!
Awesome! So glad to hear it worked for you and that our video was helpful as well.
Great question and great video, I’m about to do this on my JLU…. I’m assuming I clear the turn signals in the Tazer instead of the tail lights to clear the turn signal code…or do I follow this exactly like you did in the video Eddie? I may just try this both ways!! Thx again for posting this!!
I had to do a similar dance with my Tazer Mini for the TPMS that disappeared after I installed it. Z Automotive help desk was awesome!
Great video.
Great to hear and glad you enjoyed the video.
Finally got it to work! For those of you struggling with this, I had to do an extra step. When you’re in the Tazer menu be sure to select Clear CELs? After I did that and followed the steps laid out, it worked! My Oracle tail lights are no longer hyper flashing and the error code is gone!
Good tip!
How do you clear CEL’s?
It worked perfectly when I followed your instructions exactly. I really appreciate you and you have a new subscriber. Thanks!!!!
Happy to hear we were able to help out with our video.
I have been fighting this problem for about 3 months. Thanks for the great tip.
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you.
This worked for me 100%! I have aftermarket fenders with integrated LED lights from Metal Cloak. I recently started getting a dash error that my right front blinker was out. Upon inspection of the wiring I saw that one of the two ground wires had been severed/disconnected at the termination point in the plug (on Metal Cloak side). Surprisingly, the light still worked it was just throwing an error; best guess is that ground was to detect continuity on the Jeep side. Metal Cloak sent me a new light unit with no hassle at all. I put the new one in and still had the right front blinker out message on my dash. I followed these instructions except I selected "LED HED". FIXED!!! Thank you! 🙌
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you 👍
Terrific video. I never would have figured it out on my own. You are my hero!
Awesome! Glad we could be of help with this video.
Thanks for the video. This is not the first time I've needed to get rid of that pesky tail light out warning. The last time was after I installed my aftermarket tail lights. A month ago I needed to swap back to my OEM LED tail lights. (long story there for a different day). Last time I think I got the alarm to go away by doing 2 sleep cycles of 5 minutes. I am pretty sure that worked... then... but not now. Your suggestion of doing full reboots did work this time around... at least so far. Thanks again.
Thanks, this has been driving me crazy with the AAL fender brace replacement. I had the wired harness but it stopped working and I began getting the hyper flash and warning message. I took the harness off and used the Tazer JL method and it worked! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Glad to hear we could be of help to you with our video.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This fixed my issue!! I am astonished it worked but it did! Major props! Thanks again!!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Thank You so much for posting this. I was able to put on rubicon fenders with the led lights. Thank You Sir and God Bless
Awesome! Happy to hear our video was helpful to you.
You're a patient man! I would have never gone though all that for some aftermarket tail lights.
As mentioned, this will get rid of the error code that you WILL get with ANY change to ANY lights on your Jeep.
Almost feels like updating Windows. I keep rebooting my computer and more updates show up needing another reboot. You are a patient man.
LOL - it's a pain for sure but having the error code come up every time I started the engine was worse.
The video content is so excellent, congratulations
Thank you so much 😀
Wow! What a lot of work to reprogram/reset your lights. Who would have thought that you'd have to do 6 reboots and then cycle the turn signals, too.
LOL - it's why I wasn't able to turn off the error before. I didn't know the hokie pokie 🤪
I used JSCAN and changed setting once. No need for multiple times at all like this video required. Been working fine 6 months no issues.
Cool. If you have these exact same lights and were able to clear the error with just one setting, good for you.
Thanks for the video good to know about the lights and taser mini
Happy we could be of help 😎
Great explanation as usual.
Thank you. Glad you found our video to be helpful 😎
Need more people so spread this video more
At last a video that does not assume I am ACE certified. Thanks.
LOL - so glad you found our video to be helpful 😎
Now that's Hokey Pokey. I promise never to install black out tail lights and That's what it's all about. I do thank you for all your great videos.
LOL - as mentioned in the video, this will also work for headlights, fog lights and turn signal lights too.
Hello guys, Rick from western mass, I would love to see you guys come back out here and hit Mabell and Old Florida Road again…. Always welcome on our side of the country!

Hey Rick! Sure would be great to come back. Hope to make that happen.

Thanks for the tip .. finally worked for me

I just ran into this With my fenders your the man👍
Awesome! Glad we could be of help with our video.
It went out but comes back when my headlights turn on (Oracle oculus bi LED) I’m puzzled not giving up tho
after i got to work i watched this a second time and decided to try it. turned off the LEDs and did a reboot. got back it and out of habit i started the jeep. did another reboot. realizing this was going to take to long before work started, i turned the LEDs back and did one more reboot. it worked. no fault, no hyper clicking dash.
Cool
The Tazer manual suggests only changing to NO and then back to YES with the 20+ second indicator use. ver 11.3.7.. I think Ill be trying the short method first, then, if not.. the long winded way..
I stalled after market fenders, I'm being getting the error lights message every time that start my Jeep , I'm going to try-out this tomorrow! Thanks 😮
Tried this and it didn't work the first time but I discovered a few things that may help... The core issue is that the factory LED's have a fault sense wire and this procedure is designed to turn off that fault wire. The question becomes, does the replacement LED light fixture have a chip or a circuit to normal this out, if not, then this procedure needs to take place. Adding resistors just effects the voltage to prevent hyper flash on non-led to led conversions. That being said, my issue was due to a fender chop with small LED pod lights that I'm using for Turn signals. Since I'm no longer using factory DRL I used the Tazer to change DRL: none. Although the Tail light LED off/on procedure didn't work, I decided to try the procedure but toggling the FrnTurn LED from On to off, followed by 3 reboots and then Off to On followed by 3 reboots. This Worked !!! So to speed things up, there is a faster way to do the reboots. 1. Close the Jeep door. 2. Run position and go to Tazer and clear DTC's. 3. Go to lighting then Tail or FrnTurn depending on which one you are trying to fix. 4. Change LED to NO. 5. Reboot. 6. Once the reboot is complete turn the Jeep to off position "Do not open door". In order to hit the sleep cycle just wait for the screen to go black then look at the shifter and wait for the lights to go out. You can then go back to the run position and do another Tazer reboot. There is no need to wait 2 minutes. Once the reboot is done, go to ignition off and wait for the shifter lights to go out then repeat. After the 3rd reboot, go to the ignition run position access the Tazer and turn back whichever LEDs you turned off back to YES and do the same 3 reboots. Remember, you need to keep the door closed to speed up the sleep cycle between reboots. Will literally cut the time by more than half.
Love watching ALL of your videos Eddie, but man that's quite the process to make that work! But, at least it did work! Lol
LOL - it was a lot of work but honestly, I'm just happy to have the error code gone!
For me, this video shows how useless the dealers can be. I bought a "Slightly used" 22' Gladiator that had LED taillights and got the error message as soon as I drove it home. It only happens when I'm using the left signal. I took it back to them 2 Separate times and they couldn't figure it out. Now I'm glad I can do it myself. Great video! 👍
Thanks for this tip. I got that error code when I installed the Oracle Flush Mount Tail Lights on my JLUR
I already have the factory LED package and didn't need the resistor
Glad it helped
I’m having the same issues with my Oracle lights. So far not having any luck while trying this reset. Eddie, the first three resets you have the LED Tail set to No and the last three resets you have it to Yes, is that correct?
thanks for the tip this has been driving my wife crazy for months now. It took me a couple of tries to get it to work. second try I cleared the DTC's first and then it worked. I'm assuming I had codes for taillights out.
Glad to hear our video was able to help you out and that you got the problem fixed on your Jeep.
Thanks, I need this!
Awesome! Glad to know this was helpful to you!
Great video as always. I’d love to see a video on speedometer calibration. I have 35’s and bought an ECRI calibration. I changed the tires to 35 and the gearing was off. So I tried the driving method but it would only go up to about 33.35 for the tire size. So the gearing is still off. So a video with tips on this topic would be great.
Sorry, have no experience with what you have but with the Tazer, this video is what I did to calibrate our speedometer czcams.com/video/81_evB9At3I/video.html
@@wayalife Thanks! I will be check it out. Also, just purchased a Wayalife decal. Can’t wait to slap it on my jeep. 🤘🏽
Yes, the Tazer JL reboot cycle is... "involved". When I first got mine, I made some changes to my Jeep and they didn't seem to take. I read the reboot procedure what felt like ten times, because it's not really clear. I finally performed a similar procedure to what you have shown. Only difference, I stayed in the Jeep. I would just open and close the door, wait for the lights, etc... but remain in the vehicle. Thanks for the video, certain it will help those that miss this last and important step.
I'll bet that works too. I think the point of exiting the Jeep was to help it to go to sleep faster. At least, that's how it was explained to me.
Now that that is fixed. It should be getting close to another adventure . You know we are all waiting for one.
LOL - you know it!
Hey Fella - Love the videos. Do you have a video for the same procedure when replacing halogen headlights with LED Headlights with Halo Rings?...Since it is set as STD in the settings I would think simply changing to LED and doing the "REBOOT DANCE" will make it all work. I am installing LED's next week and already have LED tailights on the Gladi.
If you're getting the error code, I would give this a try. You would do the same thing only, when you're in your Tazer, you select the headlights.
Had a similar experience with the taser mini. I drive a manual JL. Setting the tire size required an extra couple of steps for manual vehicles. 🤣 As an IT guy it reminded me the importance of RTFM 😜🤣
LOL - If you don't mind me asking, what extra steps did you have to do? Pippi, our red 2-door is a manual and if we ever change the tires on her, this would be helpful to know. THanks!
@@wayalife If you have not already found the answer, I had to do this same relearn procedure. After I changed the tire size on my JL with a manual I had to get on the freeway and maintain a speed of at lease 40-80Mph and shift into 6th gear for 30 second while applying continuous light throttle (without letting off). www.zautomotive.com/zpu/instructions/jlm6relearn.pdf
I just changed the tail lights on my 2024 Wrangler 4xe sport s. Luckily it had incandescent lights so no issues Installing the new LED's
Thanks!
Thank you. We're happy that you found our video to be useful 😎
Great video! However, to confirm you toggled and reboot each time LEDtails to no>yes>no>yes>no>yes? You don't end the cycle toggled to no?
Let me know if you get this! Thank you!
I'm having this issue on my sport with oracle tail lights can the dealership change these settings
I had been searching for a fix for my aftermarket fenders with LED turn signals. I have a Tazer Mini and followed your instructions. This 100% fixed my Lights Out message that would come on all the time and the Hyper Flash. I did initially use the Tazer but I was still getting the message. This step-by-step guide was top notch and really worked. Thank you!!!
Awesome! Glad we could be of help with our video.
Were the capacitors still installed on the lights, or were they removed to make this work with the Tazer?
The device u have install in beneath shall all to have that?
Thanks for this extremely helpful video. Btw after reset those settings, can I unplug the tazer and reattaching everything back to the SGW module?
Yes. But, you will need to restore everything back to stock before taking your Jeep back to the dealership.
Eddie! I upgraded the halogen fog lights on my JT with Baja Designs squadrons. I don’t have any errors on the dash. Changed the settings with my tazer mini for led fogs, but the squadrons still slightly flicker. Not sure if the canbus system is unhappy or the lights are faulty. Do you think this method you did on your tail lights might be something that could help my situation?
The flicker is an issue with the lights. Some companies sell pigtails that will eliminate it.
Were you still getting the “tail light out” during the process of the last 3 reboots?
Thank you for this Eddie. I changed out the Fenders on the JLU and got this message for over a year with no luck shutting it off. I have since sold it and bought a new JL and a JT, so this info will come in handy if and when I change them out again. Incidentally, I did keep my CB Bar, but will need another one for the JT. Will they be in stock again soon?
Awesome, glad to hear our video will be helpful to you on your new JL and JT and the CB BAR's are in stock now 👍
@@wayalife awesome, expect my order in the next few minutes.
My 2023 Rubicon did not come with LED headlights or tail lights. If I buy the Oracle flush mount tail lights, can I just use JScan and my OBDLink MX+ and set the LEDs to active in my adaptations?
I don't think so. So far as I know, Tazer is the only thing that will allow you to do this.
Just did this on a 2021 rubi JT. Didn't work at the end... but i cleared the DTC and when it rebooted it worked... 🤷♂️ lol. Wife 2021 Jt 3.6 Rubi is now happy. Im personally more happier i myself went with a 2022 Jt Ecodiesel, Willys.
Glad you were able to make it work out.
I lost count lol Great Video! So in essence, a set of 350 dollar tail lights now cost 700 if you don't have a Taser. Yeesh, my Mojave's tail lights are looking just fine now.
LOL - actually, these lights were only $119 but yeah, nothing wrong with factory lights. In fact, I like them a lot too.
Will this work for aftermarket marker lights I'm having a problem with my blinkers not working once I power on my jeep .. 2018 jl wrangler Sahara
It would depend on whether the lights are not coming on or if you're just getting an error code like I show in the video. If it's the prior, you most likely need a resistor.
once i am on audio on the dash screen, it won’t scroll through a menu when i press left and click on the cancel button. any solutions ??
Tazer must have changed their directions because they actually tell you to do this now. I had to do the same thing when I just swapped my tails.
Can we do sameway with head turn signal light sir? Because i have same issue after i installed kbd fenders my jeep has led system too
You should be able to do this with any of the lights.
Hi bro, I have this message but in the from, I was installed but no sure, doing the same.
Have you ever heard of the right tail light not working on a jeep gladiator? Brake and signal works just fine but will not stay illuminated at night when the lights are on. Already replaced them to the oracle tail lights, and did not work. Jeep lights are non LED. Any feedback helps.
Just the right tail light? Sorry, I have not heard of that.
Well, at least Ripley is happy you installed those lights.
She got another bit of play time!
LOL - I can assure you, she got a lot more than that. She insisted 😁
Will this work on a “right rear turn light out” message? Purchased car used, not exactly sure why the error, but the light is working. Dealer said it was likely due to wiring from instal of a flat tow hitch.
I would think it should.
Would this fix my no front turn signals not working?. Chop fender AAL. Just DRL work but when using turn signals it just turns off completely on the turn signal im using. 19 rubicon
Sorry, couldn't tell you for sure. Typically, this will only fix the warning light on the dash - not make a light work.
Eddie the video was very useful but can i know why videos are coming late i always wait curiously for your videos and also after this video now i can breathe properly
LOL - late? As in, late in the day?
does the use of a tazer (spelling?) void warranty at all? Just got my jeep a week ago, and found some really nice blackout lights...
You do want to make sure to unmarry your Tazer BEFORE taking your Jeep into the dealership. Just in case.
Great video! This is a little off topic but I thought the larger community might have an idea. I do not have a Tazer. Here's the problem which is also on Wrangler forums. When I turn off the Jeep the gear indicator lights and center dash display lights remain on, intermittently., but when it starts it stays. The battery is dead in the morning. I have removed fuse F97 and F25 to no avail. If I completely disconnect the battery the dash light remains on, meaning it is drawing from the aux battery. Any ideas on how to correct this? You seem so knowledgable so I thought I'd give this a try. Also a shout out to the community. Thanks for listening.
Great video! Question, will this work for a Superchips Flashcal? That’s what I use for a programmer on my JL.
Sorry, I couldn't tell you for sure being that I only have a Tazer.
@@wayalife No worries, I’ll take a look tomorrow to see if it works.
@@rubi-redjeep6765 And, did it work? I have a flashcal too. Bought it on recommendation of a JK owner - wish I had done a bit more research first ...
I have a question. I had an electrical issue on my Jeep and both batteries had to be replaced everything’s working fine now but the DRL are not working I bought the Jeep with aftermarket headlights and I’m wondering if this would fix my issue? Thanks in advance
I had taken the battery off before and never had any issue with the DRL but this time was a much bigger issue and the check engine came on and I had a bunch of codes.@
Thank you for another great video this video fixed my issue
Glad it helped
Would the tazer lite work for LED DR work or would I need the tazer mini?
Not sure. I don't own one so I can't say for certain. Sorry.
Ah, modern tech! I've been working on how to turn off adaptive cruise control in my Grand Cherokee L & set it to fixed speed cruise control. You'd think that would be very easy, wrong! Tech makes our lives so much easier 😒
for Flashcal F5 users with JL/JT, plug your flashcal device , turn on vehicle (w/o starting the engine), go to "options" then choose "vehicle settings" scroll to 2nd page then choose "Standard/LED". if you have the OEM LED package in your jeep you will select "standard" then exit out and unplug your flashcal device. You will do the same procedure again but this time you will select LED. after selecting LED, go to DTC reader and select "clear codes". while the Flashcal device is still plugged in,. go ahead and turn on your turn signals 20sec on L and 20sec on R. that should clear the annoying dash warning light
Yep you need the Taser, but I would also recommend a very large travel mug of coffee……….lol.
LOL
Great video…..definitely some black magic, but if it works great! I’m bookmarking this one just in case I change out my tails.
Again, as mentioned in the video, this will work with ANY of the lights on your Jeep.
This was good satire for sure lol
Worked on my JL - thanks!! Any idea if this same process works for a blind spot monitoring system error? Installed Oracle led flush tail lights and it started throwing all sorts of errors. Now that the tail light error is fixed, the blind spot monitoring error won't go away.... Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas!!
Honestly, I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure the Tazer has a means to turn it off.
My Tazer should be coming today. Previous owner installed LED turn signals and I've had that error code since day one. Hopefully it'll fix the issue
Yup, this should fix it. All you have to do is the same thing only with the front turn signals.
Disregard my last comment. It worked
That is a lot of steps to do. If that meant playing frisbee with the dog for two minute stretches, I am good to go. Hope to remember this video when I get a light error code.
Hi there, I wonder if Tazer Lite can also solve this problem. Thank you
Sorry, I'm not sure but I think it should. You might want to contact them to make sure.
@@wayalifesorry for asking again, do I need to keep my Tazer mini connected in order to get rid of the error code?

The tazer need to be plug all the time or after the process is completed i can take it out?
Just for the process.
I really liked the black out lights when you installed them and having a black JL thought it would be a cool upgrade. But if the manufacture is reading the comments, “you have to debug this before I will buy them.” 🤨
LOL - well, to be fair, this error is something you most likely will see with ANY change to lights on your Jeep. Headlights, fog lights or turn signal lights.
I see you have serv 4wd msg. I have same on mine. How did you fixed that?
For this Jeep, it was because we have a ProRock 44 front axle with ARB locker and a factory rear axle. I was finally able to turn that light off using a Tazer but only after rewiring the factory rear locker to a separate switch.
Best way to kill time, play with the pup. I'm going to try this to hopefully rectify phantom front turn signal lights out alarms. Thanks
LOL - fortunately, Ripley can never get enough play! This should help you out with your lights. I've done it on my JT as well for the front turn signal lights.

This will address any of the LED health monitors.
I’m going to try this on my JL. Ever since we installed the AAL highlines we get a very intermittent front turn signal warning on one side or the other. It’s very random and doesn’t stay on long, but I’d like it to stop permanently.
Did Your JL came with the LED package ??

Sounds like you have a bulb that is out.
Do you have to keep the Tazer connected after you clear it? Or can you pull the tazer out and it’ll be good still?
You can remove it after.
Do you know why mine didn’t work? Would you press full reboot or just left arrow and resume button?

OK thanks for the information now I have another error code the brake light and ABS lights have started flashing when that happens I have no brakes I turned it off once but then it turns itself back on at the clear and the code
What I'm hearing from you is most likely a speed sensor issue. If your steering wheel is slightly off centered, your computer will think you're in a slide and cause the error you're seeing. Recentering your steering wheel should fix it. OR, you have a speed sensor that needs to be replaced.
I am having the same error on my Jeep Wrangler JLUS after installing Bush Wacker Fender Flares. I went from Halogen Front Turn Signals to LED Front Turn Sign Lights
Well, this will take care of it. Just to make sure, I have tested it out on our JT.
Same here with the fenders but do we still change the tail light options like you did or do we do our respective modification in the tazr
I get the same error but for the front signal lights. Do I do the same process but instead of changing the LED Tails do I change the LED Headlights?
Yes! I’m about to do this tomorrow for my front DRL lights
Yes, it will work for that too.
Should it be the headlight I do for LEDFrtrn I think that stands for led front turn signal?
@@wayalife it still makes the beep but no longer shows the warning signal picture! Thank you!!
What about a locker service light? My lockers work fine and I even put a sensor bypass on, but still the light persists.
Is it safe to assume you've installed a lift on your Jeep? If so, did you make sure to unplug the wiring from the differential before drooping out your axle? If not, you most likely pulled one of the wires out of the plug or just a bit. This is a very common problem and it cannot be fixed with a programmer.
Yes sir, it is lifted recently. I’ll check for anything loose. Thank you, I appreciate the response!
I wonder is unmarrying/remarrying would have had the same effect?
I don't think so. My information came from a very reliable source and this is how it was explained to me - how it needs to be done.
Can you do the same with LED turn signals?
Yes, any of the lights that the health monitor keeps an eye on.
