Perfect weather for a bit of kayak fishing
you re joking, but this is the perfect weather for kayaking . not so much for fishing though
This weather isn't good for Kayaking. You'll die within 15 minutes, or as long as you can stay above water which won't be long in a storm like this.
Is a joke people.
I’ll take your advice, I’m planning on kayaking in the Bermuda Triangle.
Perfect weather for a swim, this pond has nice light waves.
I just love the fact that there is no music, it's even more frightening with the sound of the ocean
Thanks 😊
the creeking of the ship really gets me
I actually like background music. How this ship doesn't sink I'll never know. So scarey!
Wait, you don't want to hear Celine Dion in the background!?
Buoyancy is such a wonderful thing. This video is not just a testament to the skill of the men sailing this ship but also to the people who designed and built it.
David Hunt Very true
There was one that broke mid hull. However, I believe the cause was poor maintenance, not poor construction. I can not imagine the hull stresses involved during high waves when the bow and stern are at the top of a large wave and the middle of the hull is at the bottom of a wave. That is probably what happened to the ship that broke mid hull. It was likely weak due to poor maintenance and the stresses did the rest. The planet would be a very different place if these ships did not transport commerce around the planet. We owe these ship builders and ship crews a lot. Most do not even know it.
I'm pilot boat skipper in port of Durban, we only go up to 5 miles offshore, only occasionally ee can get swells of 5+ meters, anything bigger and we don't normally exit the port. Watching this even gives me the chills. Much respect guys!

It takes special people to guide the ships thru this madness. Just sitting here watching the monster waves on my phone has my pulse racing
Not really, there's nothing they can do but keep going forward and hope a big wave doesn't capsize the ship.
@@namco927 You're right it still pretty nerve wracking and probably some sea sickness involved
@Reflex it's probably quite stressful lol. Idk how these guys do it.
Say, vmuel Moronta Maybe it takes a special person to have the skills? There’s quite a lot we can do to stop that big wave smashing the windows.
Phyllis Wurm - Special people... and autopilot.
A couple of people have asked me to make a long video of storm footage. Apparently it's relaxing??? It helps them sleep??????
Not quite sure how that works since it's the last thing that we can do!!!
However, a little bit of research into very long videos showing the same sort of thing over a few hours has shown me that they can be quite popular?????????
With this in mind I have cobbled together 2 1/2 hours of storm footage. It will take me a couple of days to upload but, if it's your cup of tea, then you're in for a treat 😀
must be amazing though, the excitement
In WW2, my father was a crewman on a B-29. He was not in combat. He said B-29s were also used for transport. The hum of the engines used to put him to sleep, so he got transferred.

Yes, that is indeed truly horrifying. On land we are warned about winter storms and we lie in bed worrying about the garden trees, collapsing walls and fences and we wake up to the damage that is caused. We rarely ever think of those who work on the oceans, riding out those same storms. I'm no cissy, but I couldn't do it and I reckon those that do are amongst the toughest people on the planet!

Brings back great memories. I used to work on the Canadian weather ships, 90 to 100 foot waves, back in 1980 on storm.... amazing stuff
It’s always good to hear from a fellow mariner who has experienced this sort of stuff. Too many comments from people who reckon they’ve been in worse weather on a ferry 😂😂
Bigwavemaster1 Ferries are small, don't see why they're not scared. And claim is some scary experience.
I fished the Bering in the 90s for three winters. Nice to relive the feeling of being on the bridge.... looking ahead for the *really* big ones rolling in your direction. Subbed!
You certainly know that you are alive ! ( hopefully) unfettered nature at it's most powerful is awe-inspiring every time. Makes all the little squabbles the shoreside get up to look like a bunch of spoiled brats who don't know any better. Pride before the fall ✨ 👌
I live in The Netherlands near the North Sea and in winter when i know the waves are big because of a strong wind, around 6 or 7 Beaufort (any higher is too dangerous), I walk to the end of the breaker at night to experience the height, force and roar of the wave when it slams onto the breaker. There is a land based buoy on there to guide the ships into the harbour where I hide behind when i see that a wave gets too big. You'll hear, see and feel a wall of over 3 meters of water being deflected which you know can wash you into the sea. It's awe inspiring, and quite scary. Can't imagine, (but would like to) how it will be like to be pounded by 20 meter waves on a vessel like yours. The first time would be pretty overwhelming probably lol. Thank you for the great uploads!
That is scary
I like the power of the Sea and the Nature too but I have a lot respect because of this. I swim once in big waves , it’s fun and scary at the same time. You go under very fast .....i must swim back fast to regenerate my power , it was scary .
Oooh....

Glad he found it familiar. Ships may change but the weather never does.

Oh my i got motion sickness just watching this. How anyone can brave those waters are beyond me.
How about a nice fishing trip?

Love this video, reminds me of sailing across the Atlantic on the QE2 as a kid, there was a huge storm (we were actually delayed by over a day), and I was transfixed by the ocean. Literally mountains of water coming at you, truly stupendous, when you see it you understand the sea really does not care one tiny little bit, it will crush you in a second if you don't respect it.
Must be very difficult keeping a ship in good shape while taking a battering like that!

I really like that hangout spot you've got in that nook on the bridge starboard deck, with those tall tourist windows and a coffee cup holder. Looks quite cozy!
Vietnam Vet It’s the best seat in the house.
My buddy used to captain a a vessel from Denmark, Holland, Scotland and Norway, to and from oil rigs..
He told me it became too much, with having such huge responsibility for lives and goods aboard.
The very first time he went out on the North sea in a fishing boat.
The tilt alarm was ringing constantly and he didn't sleep for over 65 hours
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years but now giving it up to work on a farm.
This scares the shit out of me.
This is 10x safer than driving in Russia.

These guys have balls of steel. I don't know how they handle it. Freaks me out just watching the videos.
I used to work on a ship. Not that big of a deal.

I’m always fascinated w/ watching stuff that terrifies me like ships in monster waves, extreme caving & rock climbing. I always watch this stuff even though I’d never want to do it.. domt know why but I love watching it. Anybody else?
I get what you mean about the caving & rock climbing.
This is the only channel that has ever shown such raw footage like this where there’s a beginning and an end and doesn’t leave you hanging and I just find it fascinating what goes on in the middle of the ocean where most of us would never know it if not for these fine people actually videoing it and putting it on here for us to watch and also a big thank you for not having agitating music to go with it!!! The natural sounds of the way the ship sounds as it’s tossing and turning and the waves and everything else all the natural sound effects are just perfect! Like we don’t need music, it’s perfect just the way it is!!
Thank you very much
Unfortunately my office has stopped me from making any more Month at Sea on an ERRV videos so here is the last one czcams.com/video/O8Kdw2b9cEQ/video.html
I hope to make more storm videos though
@@Bigwavemaster1 awe….🥲
@@StormyLynn724 Yep 🙁
@@Bigwavemaster1 can you say why they won’t let you do it?
@@StormyLynn724 The oil & shipping industries are very secretive and are worried that I may show them in a bad light.
I’ve had so many restrictions put on my filming that it has become untenable to continue.
wow the captain is a true captain you got skills I admire you sir hey I'm watching the video and I really don't have words that is real serious the ocean she'll switch up on you now I will keep you and the. crew in my prayers

Thank you for sharing with us landlubbers who can’t become greenhorns! I’d love the chance to work like this, but it’s doubtful I would make the cut. God bless you all for your work, and may the angels watch you and carry you safely home.
Thanks for the sentiments. You can follow The Crew on Facebook “Life at Sea on an ERRV “. It’s just like being there 😃
I got to see it bc of you! Salute💪🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
Thank you very much 😊
The groan and moan of the steel. The howling wind. Love it. Brb maling tea and crawling under my blanket.
It’s good to hear the real sound of a ship in a storm.
