I loved the original Star Wars movies growing up but I always found the comics so disappointing because Howard Chaykin did such mediocre work on the early issue and then Carmine Infantino's take on the characters just looked goofy (I really like Carmine's early DC stuff now, however). Only when Michael Golden popped up for issue 38 did Star Wars look impressive. And that was just the appetizer for Al Williamson's stunning adaptation of Empire Strikes Back. I bought those issues off the spinner rack, but as usual, I never even saw #42 (this always happened with 1st appearances even when they had no value at all). But I did get the Super Special. Now I've got three nice copies of 42 (including one signed by Williamson) and some duplicates of the rest of the Empire books. But just because of the art I've never had much interest in #1 or most of the early or later issues.
I think I am on the same page as you, earliest issue were kinda bland.
@@pop-comics They were just badly drawn. It's odd because Star Wars supposedly played a massive role in keeping Marvel afloat during that period but Howard Chaykin's are just looked phoned-in. That was usually the case with Chaykin's work for Marvel, although he did amazing work on his own book American Flagg. Then they gave the assignment to Infantino which was another strange choice (neither Chaykin nor Infantino were good at pinning down the likenesses of the actors at all). I did like Walt Simonson's sporadic appearances much better, but this was still pre-Thor Simonson so it was still far less dynamic than the Simonson everyone loves now. But Al Williamson...he was supposedly George Lucas's choice all along and both the Empire and Jedi adaptations were magnificent. It's the only time the comic literally matches the power of the movie visuals.

What is funny is this collection was one of the few modern collecting regrets I had so the chance to buy the collection back was amazing to me.

I know exactly what u mean ,l to sold my 20 yr old collection of STAR WARS vehicles,figures and play sets for peanuts compared to today’s prices of getting back and then some l never had before . I regretted it ever since that day
Yeah its crazy how high prices have climbed on a lot of this stuff. But life happens and things probably had to be sold for a reason. Hopefully you have been able to find a few choice pieces over the years.
Probably my biggest regret now Is selling the first Moon Knight series from the 80's on ebay around ten years ago.....for just 80 bucks.
Yeah I sold a bunch of duplicates from that series last summer before the prices jumped. Luckily I had a full set in my own collection. Hopefully you can replace the set semi affordably

THE SECOND PRINTS YOU SAY MIGHT BE WHITMAN 3 PACK WHICH WAS A LOWER PRINT RUN.
They use to sell for a lot less then the 1st prints a few years ago, are the whitman 3 pack issues selling for more now?
@@pop-comics I. HAVE THE WHITMAN 3 PACK OF BLACKHOLE IN ISSUE 3 THEY SHOW THE BACKUP STORY OF THE SECOND MOVIE THAT WAS NEVER MADE BY DISNEY.
@@pop-comics Some of the Whitmans are actually 1st print variants. Most reprints are stated on the cover. There is a misconception sometimes of seeing the diamond on #7 & #8 for example and thinking Reprint right away.
Did not know they were some 1st prints in the whitman packs. I just double checked value and for instance I saw #5 regular edition on mycomicshop.com for$15.25 in VG and the Whitman 1st Print of #5 for $4.80 so they still sell for a lot less then the normal version. I think that was more of my point then then being a reprint, just a lot less desirable. And I dont want people accidentally over paying for a Whitman thinking it has the value of the standard edition. That being the case if there is any that sell for a premium over the regular edition let me know, I would like to know that info.
i had a set of Ralph McQuarrie (star wars concept artist) toys as a kid and I wish I could find it lol, so this is a great video for me

Decades ago, I collected The Tales of the Jedi by Darkhorse Comics from the 1990s. Loved those stories! Have you seen or read those comics?
I have not read the series but I believe I have most of them in my collection.

That Star Wars 12 with the Neon green was phenomenal at 17:50. Love the painted faces as well. The TMNT comics looked dull in colors and unappealing overall. I'll stick with the cartoons and first movie.

Hi Sean Joe Fauteux here i just watched your video again , I have 84 of the older comics from 1977-1985 plus Dark horse 2013,14,15,16 comics , been trying to decide to sell them all at once ,mostly in 7.5 condition except my #1 #2 and #107 in higher cgc graded ,i only been collecting since 2019 What do u think about me selling them all at once ? Great video
Really depends on how much work you want to do, you will make more selling comics one at a time or in small batches but it will be a ton more work. Or you can sell it all at once semi cheap.

Great set of Star Wars. I am not too familiar with the Dark Horse era although I do have a few copies. So the reprints have a blank area where the newstand would be?
I think the reprints come in a few different formats. Most of the ones that came in three packs did have blank barcodes but later issues it was different.

I got rid of old comics in 2001 I regret it
2001 was a very low time for comics so they probably felt like it was not worth keeping if you were not reading etc. I hope you were able to replace a few choice issues.

I have an opportunity to buy a full Star wars comic book collection all in CGC cases, but i dont know whether to pull the trigger. Its quite a bit over what I think I can afford... is it worth it? thinking of investing for the long term.
If you can get them for undervalue then yeah I would definitely jump on it. If they are selling at full value I would hold off and just pick up key issues directly from ebay etc. I always say if you are going full price for comics then focus that money into issues that people will always want and have the greatest potential to climb in value. Of course also buy those you want the most for yourself. Buying in bulk you will want to try to get a better deal when you can.
