You've become famous for your highly technical, succinct, gear reviews, but I think you're next phase is showing us more of your personality in a more informal, off the cuff, no-script format. I have come away very well informed on how the dynamic range is calculated.
Be nice if Sony added proper functionality (focus breathing comp for example) to the A1, being the flagship and all. As well as the a7S III.

This was a fun watch. You both seem like good people. On my non existent budget it turns out I am doing things the Gerald Undone way.. ie lots of claps and jump cuts, albeit I am still working on the freezing aspect. Also light my background very similarly. Just the lights are much..much cheaper.

OMG GERALD. That tip in the Storyblocks was genius! Thank you. I can share that with all my talent and turn my finicky teleprompter into an asset! Just bury a little tip or info nugget in each ad read and people will watch them for sure, holy shit
17:40 - I've always suffered from audio drift issues too... but have you ever considered using timecode/genlock since you have a pretty static studio setup? Right now my equipment doesn't support it, but I'm considering that feature on my next round of camera/recorder upgrades.
It figure it would save *that* much time in post, especially if you switch cameras in the future (sometimes even the same model can drift a few frames per hour!).
@@svenlakemeier What I mean is externally-generated timecode, maybe also genloc (depending on needs and equipment). Audio sync in post is just a super annoying task that doesn't take too much time once, but adds up over years.

THANK YOU for the tip on the audio sync! 🤜🏻💥🤛🏻, I also sync manually just to make sure it's perfect! I shoot on 25fps and record on a computer and I thought I was mad for thinking that the sync can be off. I'll definitely try adjusting the speed of the audio track by mili-percentages (if that's even a word)! Don't think we'd make a great team, we're both too perfectionistic, no video will ever leave the editing room haha. Great tour!

Gerald is so much shinier than Josh. He must be in HDR while Josh is in SDR mode.

Fun fact about the 100,004% sync technique! I have though about it, but never tried. I don't shoot 2 hours, and let Resolves automagic sync handle it.

That audio drifting issue is sooo underrated... Ever since switching to using Timecode and jamming everything with Tentacle Sync-E generators, I haven't been looking back!
On which cameras? I noticed the Sony cameras has Timecode inside the menu but I've never seen anyone use it.

Awesome video! The audio drift thing is definitely a real problem, but I've started doing my syncing in Red Giant PluralEyes, which has automatic drift correction built in, so I can sync a 4+ hour shoot, and have the entire thing stay sync'd in post the whole time. It's the best $300 I've spent on film gear in a while. Definetly check it out.
