- The latest news from the hobby of flying RC planes and recreational drones.
This week more proof that falling space junk is more of a danger than a recreational drone, a new twist to the use of drones in Ukraine, further proof that the hobby is good for your health, airliners keep banging into each other and more.
The link that everyone has been sending me from an old Mythbusters episode where they flew drones into a dummy:

$250,000 fine and 3 year prison for unregistered drone in USA. $110 traffic ticket for unregistered automobile in the USA. Which kills more people?
In fairness.... a % of drone owners are straight-up terrorists.
It's a problem.
That guy got 1 year probation and a 500 dollar fine.
@@JXero Just wait. They think shootings are bad. Lucky people didn't pay attention in Chemistry class
@SpaceRanger187 usual conspiracy nut trying to sound spooky but really you just sound paranoid what chemistry did you learn and why would they teach you it if it was so dangerous 🤣 Smoke more meth.
I don't have to register my drone haha 😆
I can also turn off the geofence!:
Thanks Bruce for your weekly news. Stay strong.
Found a scratch on my car this morning, pretty sure a drone did it.
my neighors tree exploded 2 weeks ago during a thunderstorm... most likely a drone did it ;)
My toilet tripped over the sink the drone did it
Why wife got pregnant, yes it was a drone……..
My drone crashed, pretty sure it was shot down by a drone.
My cat caught a bird this morning, I think a drone did it
We ALL LOVE Bruce's whitting sarcasm!!!
Hello, I am so happy that I find You good Sir in good health. I was your subscriber, when tri engine drones build on arduino and Wii controlers was a thing. Unfortunatelly 8 years ago I lost my sight. But Today I turn into memory lane and I am happy that You are wel. I bought first drone for my wife I hope that she cainto hobby. Thank You and good health for You!
Many thanks for reporting the FACTS on these incidents. The Foxbat A22 is a "Light Sport" aircraft and requires a LS license to fly in the US.
I was totally on the wrong track before FPV. Bought a Nazgul and got my horrible face tattoo lasered off!
Hi Bruce good to see and hear from you again🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
This morning a Southwest flight a Boeing 737 took off from here in Denver, Colorado. And one of the jet engine cowlings peeled off and hit the wing flaps. They turned and landed. No report on where that cowling went to, or what it fell on.
ah, Boeing again
Wonderful as always, thank you!
I appreciate your work !
Wow, thanks man... much appreciated!
Every time you inspire with your ability to manage and thrive. Here’s to more good moments and victories, big and small
Excellent presentation as always
Got a giggle out of the story that in the space station they just toss their trash out the window, an old habit from mother earth no doubt. Thanks for your positive outlook, you are always an inspiration, and looking forward to seeing videos from you for a long time yet. Cheers!
Humans trash everything
15:30 Like the aircraft carrier telling the lighthouse to get out of the way, the pilot was telling the tower to move.
If you don't get the reference, it is an old joke.
I thought of the same true story.
Thank you Bruce!
That near miss tower incident was her second attempt to land there as well. How any pilot can get that deep into the final without actually being on the glideslope is unfathomable. At one point the aircraft was less than 100' from terrain and it was ATC who had to notify them they were off track.
Just what is the use of qualifying completely incompetent people?
Because they will crash later rather than sooner? A panicked ATC, she didn't even identify herself.
Lots of pilots seem to 'pay to play'. Enough $ they eventually get their ticket then continue being hazards
@@getahanddown Yep, and the demand is high enough for them to help everyone (who fits the new agenda) over the line...
Qualify incompetent people?? MONEY!!
It's great to see you again, Bruce! 😊
And now everyone is talking about the freaking eclipse... It's getting boring. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Drone ate my homework.
I’ve always wondered why a cottage industry hasn’t popped up to jailbreak DJI drones.
New subsciber! Late to the party, having a great time. Cheers Pilots!!
Always love your news..
Saying prayers for ya man. My mother had dystonia it affected her neck and she couldn't turn her head and she had to get repeated Botox shots to get the muscle to let go.
oldguyFPV; Fly safe, fly free!
spilled my coffee.... damn drone operators.... burned my toast too... that was likely a drones fault too.
That's nothing! About 2pm today a large round drone blocked out a good portion of the sun. Fortunately, a number of years ago I saw a documentary on the Aztec's and knew how to fix this (bonus... The crops should also be bountiful this year).
I hope that DJI bill never passes. Thanks for the news Bruce.
cheers Bruce, great report.
Always love your news
As long as the space batteries had remote ID we should be ok
Haha, seeing a drone at a mile of distance. Most people can barely spot my 7" quad at 200ft.
got ya beat, I couldnt see my 5" quad on the work bench 5 feet away... it didnt have the props on it and I was looking for props :)
I can't see my 8 ft wing at 1 mile.
Go to 400' and hover, and the Phantom's with a white body is close to invisible on a clear day. A Mavic at the same height is easier to spot but almost impossible to hear. And a Mavic Mini, is pretty much invisible and inaudible.
Very good Bruce. I love my Mavic 2 Pro, but I hate the fact that I have to " activate" it etc. On the commercial airline front, I fully agree about the new way of hiring people. Qualifications and ability should be the first consideration.
You talk logic. Lock him up!
Hi Bruce, I just found a channel playing space1999. I put it in the patreon
Because someone somewhere down the line is getting paid to over regulate drone use!
Brilliant.
Bloody hell , fpv be free , still worried about props falling off planes here in whitianga.. Seems like something you want to stay on plane especially while flying over a town..
Apparently "Space Garbage Collector"s could be going into the Job Book ???
Thanks Bruce, always a pleasure tuning in. On another note talking about the politicians they need to start with a little common sense.
If you started with a little common sense, you would not be a politician.
A drone under the control of a sensible person who follows the rules is not dangerous. I agree with you that a piece of space junk could be more dangerous.
The problem is that there are a lot of people who want to fly a drone because it is the thing to do. It is fun, and you can do a lot with them.
A lot of those people have no idea what a drone really is or that it can be very dangerous when used inappropriately and in the wrong places. Some examples are:
There have been drone flyers that flew their drone in the flight path of a landing aircraft to make the best photo of the year.
There was a drone flyer who wanted a picture from a large church tower with the sun coming up on a misty morning. For this, he had to fly his drone over the city centre, where people were commuting to work or school.
There was a drone flyer that was flying over a highway to see if he could go as fast as the cars below. Doing that, he sometimes flew so low that he was in front of the cars and not above them.
These are only a few examples, and I know they really happened in the country where I live. These drone flyers, who are not pilots, are the main cause of the very strict rules imposed on us. They have ruined the fantastic hobby for many responsible people who have been flying their models for many years already. I have been flying my model aeroplanes since 1977. Yes, there were rules then, but you could fly your model without problems by following these simple and logical rules.
Shall we ever go back to that? I really hope so, but I won't hold my breath.
great stuff!
Air liners connot see drones. In a light aircraft it's very hard to see other planes even with radar showing you where they are, never mind a little drone. Even if it was a 10" you wouldn't see it unless it was within 50ft and the plane was flying as slow as possible and the drone wasn't moving
Exactly, and even a small drone like mine can be dangerous to a plane if used wrongly
@russc788 no more dangerous than a bird. Matter of fact it's most likely less dangerous because it's under intelligent control. Unlike a bird which doesn't know what an airplane is
@@jakeclauson9863 I think this is a silly comment. A bird is way more aware of its surroundings than a drone operator, and even they get hit by fast moving planes.
Not all drone operators are intelligent, that's why they do dumb things that make the hobby harder for the rest of us.
@russc788 youd be surprised. Most of the time birds will just dive when a plane comes around. Sometimes they don't know what to do and just freeze. If both examples are aware of a plane, the drone is the safer option.
@@jakeclauson9863 Firstly, many drones cannot ascend or descend fast enough to avoid a plane. Secondly in many countries, if you are sharing airspace with planes you are breaking the law.
Good vid, health wise - battle well chap.
Even though I'm usually in G Class airspace, just as an extra layer of precaution before flight of a UAV I check for the aircraft in the area, try to get an idea of what the low altitude aircraft are doing, either via FlightRadar24, or directly via a RTL-SDR receiver.
cheers Bruce
As DJI uses part of the the ISM Band in particular upper portions of the WiFi channels and several channels of Bluetooth blocking the use of these frequencies this will also affect some WiFi Routers (Country dependent) and all Bluetooth using devices which would affect all smart phones currently being sold
thanks for continuing debunking the false information that's being spread out there
It's a shame the masses believe the propaganda and the liberal media keeps pushing it out there.
Bruce, you really hit on something big,it's also something that effects me.I can't seem to get an aviation job working on planes and I'm a certified aircraft mechanic. Also I can't seem to get a military electronic assembly job and I am a certified Mil SPC 454 wirer and solderer. That don't want to hire people that are qualified for a job there applying for.
They have to pay you to much? In the past I had to shoo off jobs.
I can count on the toes of my left hand the number of 'drones' that I have seen flying around over the last 12 months! 😊
You Nailed my feelings about Nanny DJI..Grrrrr I Hate that They can Control MY drone ! Should be a Big Orange Sticker Warning on the box saying You don’t Really Own your drone..We just let you use it as WE See fit...(ps recently bought my first Autel bird..bye bye DJI)
Mmmmmm what Bruce, thats the one at the airfield here. I would have thought it would have been written off? Laurie 😊
Sounds like the space junk almost made it back to the original place where it took off not bad for accuracy😂
I always thought those Carbon Fiber props looked a bit..... sharp. I'm looking at my 3D-printed 10-inch build with renewed respect.
Too bad about that Mythbusters episode as you link wont let it show in the US and when searched for it was only available if paid for, Oh Well.
" extended emdurance " drone lol i love it
Boeing - the noise the bit that fell off makes when it hits the ground.....well car park, house or school, who knows.
I love flying drones and helicopters.. Less likely to land in a tree.. I seen a commercial of a certain fast food place that is going to deliver "food" through the use of drones.. And on the subject of flying in a drone. I like the option of parachutes in the event of an emergency.. Helicopters don't have that.
Great job xjet i was one of those on the bang part of drones.well put with the bigger plane angle. But rules are rules and they don’t make everyone happy
I do actually worry about getting hit by a meteorite with my name on it. Then I realise how cruel the universe is and that it likely won't end me that quickly.
True, you will get hit by a meteorite that does not have your name on it.
My problem at the moment is do I buy a Huntsman that is a bank and yank or a Prime t 1400 full 4 channel. Price is about the same
Have had limited experience.
Now the FAA is approving FRIA locations for people's houses. If you are Bardwell anyway lol.
I have Dystonia from CRPS (and a range of other symptoms). Try a balanced (THC and CBD) vapourised cannabis flower or oral oil. Works so well as an autonomic system regulator. Available in medical form so legal + cheaper than black market.
The tower was just Maverick and Goose doing their thing.
Bruce, what's happening at the airfield? Do you still go out there once in a while? Let us know please.
Betaflight GPS Rescue is a lot better than it used to be. In fact, it is that good that I'm not sure INAV is worth messing about with anymore. I found it very problematic and a lot harder to tune my quad. Well impossible actually, because the dataflash chip support was broken in INAV but worked fine in BetaFlight. I got used to BetaFlight and decided I didn't need all the waypoint stuff and the hardware issues just made it impossible to go back to INAV.
Just saw this headline 04/23. ‘Amazon halts drone deliveries in California, but kicks off tests in Phoenix’ Do you think they’ll allow our drones to fly now that the corporate deliveries are gone ? I doubt it !
And I just read a headline that said Amazon is ENDING its drone delivery program in California. I think Amazon is throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping some of it will stick.
Why are done parts like fc and analog vtx becoming so expensive . Lot of parts I usually order from ali are twice the cost of what they where 6 months ago.
I'd be more worried about random showers of Boeing parts, being just off the landing path for the local airport. Looks like a few companies are having maintenance issues...
Drone may have caused Heathrow accident, after it was thought a drone was on the conrete and aircraft took avasive action.
I am more worried about GA
awwww, the mythuster video isnt allowed in La. ( USA) New Orleans area
It is very unlikely that anyone threw out any space junk on purpose because it could cause a cascade of hits, destroying many satellites. They put the junk on the returning cargo ships.
Yeah, but this battery missed the cargo ship so was just thrown out in 2021 with the belief it would burn-up on re-entry.
BTW, drones that are only allowed to fly in certain areas and not in others, they remind me of the new cars that you have to pay monthly or yearly subscriptions to use features, what an insane idea. If it's for some comfortable thing or for software updates over the air, these services are nice but costly. Who would want to constantly pay for something you already paid for? Similar to the french electric cars sold in Europe, they rent the battery to you and you have to constantly pay for them, monthly I believe. Cheaper on the purchase and maybe the warranty is better, who knows?
Bruce have you had that dark spot on rhs of scalp checked by your GP? 😊
I never liked dji. However only thing i liked them for is helping push digital fpv faster. No they didn’t create the first digital, but dji are so mainstream people seen it and helped drive that.
It’s just to bad that the other early digital fpv systems didn’t have much traction and the projects died. (I did have one on order, but it kept getting pushed back on delivery, so i had to back out.)
Boing engine cowl fell off and struck flaps whilst in flight. Reported on sky news at 0900utc
My misses flew off the handle; pretty sure she was riding a drone.
What about all the uap/ufo stuff ... ??
Switching the phrase from Long Range to Endurance Flying is clever!
I tied to warn you all of the control issues during covid nobody listened because they were afraid of dying from a 45nm particle of rna.
Facts brother facts! Keep up the great work. Like, share and subscribe this channel and video
The same song and dance. We are totally saturated with it and we are refusing to be frightened and controlled by the bullsh!t.
Like bot grinder. Completely changed his life in a great way
Also the military is putting that shit on drone not us PERIOD!
Those spouting off that "certain" personal types of people being hired are to blame for media covered instances are a huge part of the problem. HUGE! There are other issues cited other than "certain types" of people being hired to fill quotas. Frankly Bruce, I'm disappointed you even brought it up. This stuff goes viral, and it helps no one. It just feeds into their narrative.
What! it's horrifying to know that there are no ultralight regulations. Why is this ? - are they safer than a 500gram drone ?
What happend
to all the flying videos Bruce ?
As the South Waikato District Council 🙂
FPV changed my life. I have much less money than before I started flying FPV.
I have been flying for 70 years, and I now have more money than I did, because everything has gotten so much cheaper. I still have gas and glow as well as electric.😁
for the AMA membership paid for by insurance you have to be 65 or older
💪🤠👍
Manned aviation is getting worse by the day across the globe and yet you hear little about that , but you still hear complaints about drones that have never caused any of those manned aviation issues.
How can a drone crash a plane it's not flying? Ask the Ukrainians.
Ukraine has released the ultralight aircraft drone bomb and attacked russia that way. So these are here as we had seen those 911 planes as bombs 2 decades ago.
There is simply no comparison in the damage they can do. They can give drones a bad name, lets ask them to stop using them.
And so it begins........
So here is where his manparts are. Doesnt feel weird at all. 😂
F all 3 lettered Agencies
Sure it alway us drone pilots who are in the wrong and plane pilots never do anything wrong 😅 or fly in our air space even when they are allowed to fly much much higher than we are allowed
these politicians are dangerous
Yeah sure it did bro
Disingenuously conflating an insurance company allowing the cost of a membership with the overall safety of an activity is total BS. They aren't saying drones are safe, all they are saying is there probably isn't any hazzard for the operator/pilot. You're really reaching Bruce.
What about the fact that you can buy millions of dollars in public liability insurance to cover your drone/RC flying for just a few tens of dollars? There's your proof that this is a *VERY* low risk activity.
@@xjet While you are correct, that fact indicates an assessment of "overall" risk by the insurance companies, the other still does not. And by your own admission, it is a LOW risk, not NO risk activity. Furthermore, prove that it's not because of the mitigation factors the FAA has implemented that insurance companies are willing to write those policies. Be in violation of the FARs and try putting in a claim and you'll see how insurance companies feel about FAA's mitigation policies.
Thanks for agreeing that what we do is a LOW risk activity. There are no NO risk activities and LOW is the best we can hope for. Indeed, what we do is a LOWER risk than GA or even driving to the flying field, and always has been. So what is the point of ever-stricter regulation? How LOW is low enough when we're already lower than GA?
I think the American govt are more worried about DJI drones, simply because they’re manufactured in China. Honestly Bruce, I have a DJI drone, and it’s a fantastic little drone. I can unlock FRZ’s easily so DJI don’t tell me I can’t fly in certain areas. ( hint here, it’s the govt) I think it’s more quasi autonomous, non government agencies ( QUANGO’s ) eg the CAA, that decide where you can and can’t fly. 😉😉
Drone rules aren't stupid they are intentionally draconian, but why is the question. Camera drones don't affect drone delivery systems or taxis.🤔
