    Bruce, I sure hope some sanity comes to this hobby. I truly believe all the regs are just one more thing to deflect away from real issues our governments have created. All of us out here sure have fun flying, racing and other silliness. I have made some great friends with this hobby, people I chat with now almost every day. Building racing wings and drones has expanded my knowledge and given me new skills that are fun and keep the brain sharp. This is a great hobby and thank you for what you do.

As for location: north end of Dunedin, so get a few commercial jets at altitude, but mostly get helis and the occasional recreational fixed wing flying overhead.

    hey bruce what do you think of variable pitch multirotors for manned use, with an inboard engine setup. leaves greater redundancy, possibly autorotation on engine failure. mechanical drive/control to the rotors, would still need to be fly by wire of course. ive always been surprised that this isnt explored more at that scale

    • @patrickpendergast898
      @patrickpendergast898 Před měsícem

      I think the engineering work to make 4 variable pitch rotors work together is a waste vs just building a conventional helicopter for the same purpose. Plus a helicopter has better disc loading. For unmanned heavy lift I think chinook style craft would be more practical

    • @slothFPV
      @slothFPV Před měsícem

      @@patrickpendergast898 in the context of a recreational manned vehicle i still think it would be great, with the added manuverebility compared to a heli. definitely less efficient though. also think its still simpler than a heli, no swashplate required, its effectively 4 heli tail rotors

    They're overcrowded like you wouldn't believe. Allegiant airlines is helping out. So are all the other budget airlines. They turn the airline business into airborne buses. America doesn't like to invest in its infrastructure. I think airports are infrastructure. But I guess we don't need to spend money on that. But I think pilots for UPS have a different opinion of that. They have to fly out of the same airport. Spend some time at SeaTac or O'Hare or any of the large airports in the United States. Private planes cargo plane passenger airline fly out of the same airport.

    Worldwide there have already been blood and flames over who is on the right bit of Tarmac, the USA has had at least one example. The big difference is that there is a new media industry making news out of what used to start and stop with paper investigations and no pax phone footage. The regulators have been worn out by such events and found no solutions without serious costs in time or money. Treating the newcomer drones as regulator rations is a welcome low risk distraction even if transparently absurd.

    Issue is Those drones in the Middle East and in Ukraine is what the general public assume ( as the media leads their thinking ) OUR Hobby drones are compiled of the same thing and we Hobbyists are potential terrorists and peeping tom's etc that will cause a catastrophe any second when we fly as we hear almost daily of a manned aircraft claiming to hit or see or miss a DRONE , even when no drones are ever involved unlike what many of these YT video creators like to show and talk about but never go back and retract their statements and actually say NO DRONES were ever involved.
    I am more likely in today's world to have space junk hit me or a manned aircraft fall on me or a car run over me then i will ever see a Drone ( other than my own that is ) and never will be hit by one ( again unless I hit myself )
    Bruce we both are old enough to remember being promised flying cars, jet packs to fly to work and lessen city traffic and routine flights to the moon and vacation on mars and many other such claims
    We also are old enough to know most all these claims by various members of the Commercial Drone Alliance groups are just that "claims" . They have and are throwing Billion$ at Governments to buy the airspace and force us out, and Those politicians are eating it up because their lobbyists are lining the pockets of those Politicians and in a few years the majority of these taxi, drone delivery nonsense will go completely silent, BUT the over regulation and nonsense rules for our flying TOYS will not be reversed. They will find a way to tax us even more to enjoy our hobby, that is what Governments do
    One Congressman from Texas, Cruz is his name addressed the Manned aviation issues in the US to the FAA in those meetings before they voted on the FAA Reauth Act. He even showed vids of those near misses among airliners at airports. Since then we have had dozens and dozens of the same near misses and not to mention multiple aircraft crashes to deaths, to aircraft landing in highways to fields and one the other day a 1969 Cessna crashing among an apartment complex and they hit nothing and if you see the pic it is amazing the pilot was not harmed and no one on the ground was touched. BUT to many of these issues are happening almost daily .
    BUT the talk is still OUR TOYS are the real danger. Not to mention Drug cartels using drones to spy on Homeland security to border patrol and to smuggle drugs across our Southern Border...but in hearings they use those sightings of cartel drones as an example as to why they need to regulate and rule OUR TOYS out of the skies IN the U.S..
    Frustrating to say the least and btw RID will never solve ANY issues that may arise by drone use.
    But they tout how RID will keep the NAS safe from "rogue" drones and terrorist attacks etc.
    Sickening ....

    If you cut regulations. If you don't give the FAA a budget so they can hire individuals that can work at airports. What do you expect is going to happen. They've been kicking the financial can down the road for how many years. They financially gutted the FAA a long time ago. How many agents do they have now check on it. People retire you have to hire new people how do you do that with a budget from four or five years ago.

      With how they are spending what they do have i woould say they are still over funded.

      Have you ever been to Boeing. Have you seen the assembly line where it used to be. Do you know what kind of engineering you need to work as an investigator at the FAA. Do you know what these people get paid. And then you tell me you know about the funding no you don't. I do think you're a crazy ass Republican.
