  • Very excited by the Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery prompt for the month of June which is to create a slow stitch vessel or bowl.
The version I’m going to share with you is very easy to make from little scraps of fabric on a felt or blanket base, and to decorate with simple slow stitching stitches.
My piece is inspired by a poem by the incredible Mary Walker titled Wild Fruit. Please check out Mary Walker’s website and instagram:

In this episode I will show you how you can use thread to slow stitch and thread paint a bird with incredible textures, as part of the panel inspired by the third stanza of the poem.

With thanks to Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ and Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ for yet another wonderful project!
With thanks too to Annie Claxton ‪@artyfartyannie‬ who got me started on this fabric panel as part of her Colour inspirations project earlier this year.
I hope you enjoy following along with this idea and tutorial to make an easy slow stitch container or vessel using scraps of fabric. And maybe you want to take a poem or piece of writing as inspiration too!

Hi Christine, this piece is absolutely beautiful! And see, I'm not the only one who thinks you're super creative! Okay, so in answer to two of your questions....Yes, I have inadvertently sewed things to my stitching. Shirt, pants, leg, and when using a hoop, I almost always get those pesky corners caught. That's why I prefer to stretch it in a square frame instead. Question 2 ( I almost forgot what the question was..😂 I can only watch from my phone and I am able to magnify the screen by fingers. But, sometimes it gets a little distorted. Now I really can't remember any others. My memory is terrible! Anyhoo, I hope you're having a great day! TFS 😊

Hahaha - you can join our skirt stitching club too! 😆 I always forget the questions others ask in videos too even though I’m sure I will remember. Probably because we relax so much when I’m stitchy mode 💙🧵🪡

Love the poem very meaningful love the way you have/are creating a beautiful piece. Yes I have been sewing into the back of the piece I was working on it was right at the very beginning of the piece. A lot of work unpicked. Love the whispy bits.

Whenever I hear the word 'plumage' (which isn't often, thank goodness), I think of Monty Python: "Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!" Speaking of your stomach rumbling: "Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!" (I just listened to Orson Welles' version of Dracula on old-time radio. Can you tell?)
