    As someone who mainly shoots with Nikon's 500 f/5.6, I'd say this is a HUGE win for Sigma and Sony shooters. My brain still doesn't understand how I can have such good optical quality and so much reach on such a light lens. It feels like cheating. I'm actually comfortable hiking with it and it doesn't feel like a burden. I'm sure this Sigma is every bit just as good. Sigma should follow this up with a 300mm F/4 that is super light as well like Nikon has. Thats the other lens in my arsenal that I just can't get over how small and light it is.
    Also the fact that Sigma got it this small without using a Fresnel element is wild. It seems like magic to me. My only complaint about the Nikon is that weird PF bokeh sometimes. The Sigma will be free of that and is still the same size/weight. Overall, massive win and an exciting launch!

    Yes the 150-600mm is a more versatile lens, but it is a heavy thing to shoot hand held all day. I do photography as a hobby, but I'd still be happy enough to purchase this lens. Be ideal at race circuits like Silverstone as your a good distance away from the circuit. And if anything it will make you think a bit about where to take shots and be more creative and therefore get more interesting images rather than very similar images to everyone else stood right by the fence with there zoom lenses in my opinion.

      yes, I agree.
      As i said in my video, you have to be in right place and yes, it is lighter and smaller than the big zooms

    1:28 interesting the way the rider collects the light on his helmet, right shoulder, and right shoe, all against a dark background. Great example of what this lens is capable of, and your ability to make this photo shine.

      I agree, I shoot with the Nikon 500 5.6 PF and my 1.4 TC spends a LOT of time on that lens. It depends on the subject but if I'm in good light I'm almost always at 700mm.

    • @PhotoTrekr
      @PhotoTrekr Před 4 měsíci

      Agreed. When shooting with long telephotos, it seems like they're never long enough. But, when you start at 5.6, you're going to need lots of light when using teleconverters.

    I have the 200600G and an a9. This lens is for some people, but not for me. The biggest con being no TCs. The small gain in aperture and sharpness, for me isnt worth it. I love my 200600G 😊

  • @PhotoTrekr
    @PhotoTrekr Před 4 měsíci

    Very intriguing lens to me. I have the 200-600 G with which I'm very satisfied. But, it's heavy and I always use it on a tripod. I also have a 70-200 GM II and the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. I don't hesitate to use the 1.4x. I am a little hesitant to use the 2x, though. I shoot with 61mp cameras. So, I can crop an image if necessary. It would be nice to have a handholdable 500mm lens. But, even at $3000.00, that's a little pricey for an amateur.

    Pav this lens is so bloddy expensive for a f5.6 Sigma I am unsure WHO this is for. Sure for $2k maybe but $3,000 USD? Good lord! Its so expensive. Especially for say myself in Canada where it will be $4000 CAD! Wow not a change. Will buy a Super Zoom.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 4 měsíci +3

      yes, it is very expensive but if you compare it to all 500mm f4 lenses on the market, it is very cheap

    • @nickcarneyphotography
      @nickcarneyphotography Před 4 měsíci +2

      What price would you expect for a telephoto prime? The Nikon 500 5.6 DSLR version is even more expensive. Their 600 f6.3 is almost 5k. Honestly this is really good value for what it is. I’m not gonna buy it but wildlife photographers certainly will.

    • @ryancooper3629
      @ryancooper3629 Před 4 měsíci

      As someone who also lives in Canada and who shoots with Nikon's 5.6 PF which retails for $4500 CAD. I'm a HUGE fan of this focal length and size. I started with a 200-500 that cost half as much money. I sold it 6 months later. The zoom was awkward and annoying to use, it was a pain to lug around, it was soft anywhere but the middle of frame, autofocus was slow and unreliable, and I constantly had to worry about the external zoom sucking debris and moisture into the lens. My 500 5.6 has optics that compete with the big exotics (it tests just as sharp as the 400 2.8 of the same generation), focus speed and accuracy that leaves the zooms in the dust, (roughly half the time end to end). Offers weather sealing, and most importantly its so small and portable. With my 200-500 mounted on my Cotton Harness is actually would start to hurt after carrying it for an hour or two but with the 500 5.6 I barely even notice it is there. Also, I never ever miss having the zoom because even when I had the zoom, I was always shooting at the tele end.
      Not saying you should run out and buy it but assuming this lens is comparable to Nikon's it is well worth the price if you are after professional performance in an ultra compact size. (Also that Nikon 500 5.6 was a really popular lens so that shows that a lot of people feel it is worth the cost). The zooms are an amazing entry into wildlife or sports if you have a tight budget but you are making a big compromise to get that much range for so cheap so I'd expect a lot of wildlife shooters outgrow their zoom and a prime like this is the next logical leap because once you start thinking about going beyond this sort of lens $4k feels like a bargain. ;) My next meaningful upgrade would be the 800 6.3 at $10k or a 600 f4 at $20k which means I'm going to joyfully stick with my 500 5.6 for a long time)
      If this Sigma offers similar performance to the NIkon then it is a huge win for Sony shooters and bound to be quite a popular lens.

    That is an idiotic claim... I guess Sony 300kg 200-600mm is for every one...

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 4 měsíci +1

      how is it idiotic?
      I have reviewed over 300 lenses here on my channel, used more and this one is hard to use for me. It is a specialist tool with a fixed focal length for someone who knows what they need and want to shoot. Not everyday stuff. Also the price makes it out of reach of most of people. It is not a lens for everyone. Big zooms are more practical for more people, even though they might weigh more.
