+cabotbluegill I'm most excited about the black sheath, then the machete, and then the ruck sack. LOL. I made out like a bandit on this one... He's too kind!

+Snowfog Outdoors Hey Diane. I've played with it a little last night after I made this video. A little feathering, a little shaving of paper... I like it. Thanks!

+Kentucky Woodsman I've been wanting the right Ruck sack for a while now. I made a couple bad choices on ones from the Flea Market and threw them away. I think I'm going to like this one!

A great package from John. The sheath are very nice, as is the machete. The Peasant knife is made of good carbon steel and works quite well.
I have a couple of old East German packs as well, they are bigger than that one. Solid.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Chris

+Rokh &Roll I've been wanting to do a video with the Peasant Knife but it dulls immediately. I think there's something wrong with the metal. One slice through leather or paper or cardboard and there's no edge left. Not even strapping brings it back.... Strange!

+David West I have the mini peasant which I re-profiled on the lansky system at 20 degrees then stropped it and its razor sharp and holds the edge for a decent amount of time maybe the larger models have a different steel.
I made a new handle from deer antler for mine squared off the spine and I use the tang to strike a ferro rod with the blade safely closed in the handle. Its not perfect but its my kinda perfect :)

+John Capps I like the choices you made in design and the items you chose to send. You know it's one kind of compliment to use words to show your appreciation... But it's complimentary ON A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL when I think about why you were able to choose so correctly. It's obvious that you've been watching and understand what I'm trying to accomplish on my channel.... Means a lot! Thanks Friend!

David, first off a very big thank you for introducing me to John Capps channel and the whole world of Kydex. I have ordered some materials and hope to soon try my hand at it.
Second I heartily agree about old hickory knives. I have a pair of good old ones like yours.
I also really liked the fire rolls you did with the Mora and the machete that John Capps sent.
I wonder if even the original sheath from a Mora would not work? Seems like it has a pretty nice flat side, and you would not have to worry about stabbing or cutting yourself.
Like you I have also been picking up a few of the Mora Knives. Good high carbon steel, reasonably priced. It looks to me like they are chrome plating the blanks, which seems to leave the backs rounded. On one I just took a small file to a spot on the back to get that sharp edge for using with a fire steel. But I think your idea of using the blade right at the handle is also practical.
Keep up the good work David.

    Nice kit.
I was impressed with that sheath as well as him sending you all of the extras.
The rucksack is an East German rain camo. It appears to have a a 3 cell ak mag pouch attached to the front. I have 4 of those packs for my boys n I. I may have to find some of those mag pouches and attach them. they are great pieces.
I'd like to see you review the pack. it's a great day pack.

Your right, I cut one of the dividers out of the mag pouch to make it more roomy.

So, Mr. West, exactly, how much did that 'sheath' for your OKC Hickory Butcher knife cost 🤔?

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl
      @DavidWestBgood2ppl  Před 3 lety

$13 from a friend that sells leather products at the Flea Market. It wasn't custom made just one of the regular sizes that he sells.

Take the tape off spray bed liner on the handle of that butcher. Rubberized handle is better for grip when your hands get wet.
