CHIANG MAI, THAILAND (2023) | 10 BEST Things To Do In & Around Chiang Mai
Vložit
- čas přidán 13. 06. 2024
- Chiang Mai is located in the northwest of Thailand. We highlight the best things to do in & around Chiang Mai:
10. Eat the traditional dish Khao Soi
This creamy yellow curry noodle soup comes with a choice of chicken or beef, and you can find it in nearly any restaurant in the Chiang Mai.
9. Tour the Buddhist Temples of the old town
There are over 300 Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai and many of them are located inside the historic old town, including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Phan Tao, and Wat Chedi Luang.
8. Visit an elephant sanctuary
We visited Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai, a sanctuary that is committed to education and rehabilitation of elephants that have been abused by the tourism industry.
☑️ Elephant Nature Park: www.elephantnaturepark.org/en...
7. Join a cooking class
We joined a half-day cooking class, during which we prepared 3 different dishes; a Thai soup, a curry, and Pad Thai. For each dish, there were different options to choose from for your proteins and flavors.

6. Cruise down the Mae Ping River
The Mae Ping River is the main river running through Chiang Mai and offers a quick escape from the city. You can rent a kayak and cruise down yourself or join a 2 hour boat tour that takes you past beautiful scenery around Chiang Mai.

5. Day tour to Doi Inthanon National Park
Home to Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon National Park is about a 1.5 hour drive from the city. The park is filled with beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, viewpoints, and twin pagodas near the summit.

4. Shop at the local Talat Warorot
This historic market opened in the early 20th century and is a great place to buy clothes, souvenirs, local food and spices. Open daily from 6am to 7pm.
3. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
The sacred Doi Suthep temple is about 15 km or 9 miles outside of Chiang Mai. The temple also offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding area.
2. Drive the Samoeng loop
This 100km or 62 miles route is a pretty easy ride with spectacular views winding through the Mae Sa Valley and the Samoeng Forest. We recommend making a few stops along the way: the Mae Sa waterfalls, botanical gardens, and the Samoeng viewpoint.
1. Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market
The largest market in Chiang Mai is the Sunday Night Market. Starting from the Tha Pae Gate, the market runs along the entire length of the Ratchadamnoen Road from 5pm until around 10.30pm. It’s also possible to visit the Saturday Night Market or the Chang Puak Gate Market on any other day of the week.

Mojopahit ciang mai
I lived river cruise in Chiangmai
i booked the tour of Doi Inthanon National Park through this link but once settled in my spot and saw brochures there are better deals for this tour that also include food.
fyi maybe just get to chaing mai and ask around before buying this one. but not a huge difference otherwise.. once on the tour they also said i had to pay entrance fees.
all said and done i was almost 1000b more than the others
thanks for the video!
Hi, great series about Thailand ;) Do you remember which exactly tour you took at Elephant Nature Park? Was it half or full day? Thanks :)
We did the full-day tour because we love to observe elephants! It also included lunch. But you can also do a half-day visit, you'll just have less time with the elephants
Great list. Doi inthanon looks heavenly. Is it cold year round or just for the month you visited? It would be cumbersome to pack a jacket just for this one temple. Thanks for sharing.
I think during the summer it will be a lot warmer! It warmed up once the sun came out. But the night / sunrise was pretty cold!
Thanks for the great video. One question though- how do get down from Doi Suthip? The very same way you get up there, red taxi?
Yes there were quite a few of the red taxis waiting at the temple so it's easy to get back!
Great video….thanks! Did you guys do any hiking around CM? Suggestions for shorter day hikes? Also, any advice for moving around to places outside CM other than scooters!! Many thanks and keep ‘‘em coming!! Cliff
Hi! We didn't do hiking other than in Doi Inthanon National Park near Chiang Mai. It's a lot cooler up there so better for hiking! You can also look into Doi Suthep, which is close to the city. There are many hiking trails to waterfalls and temples etc ("doi suthep monk trail" is one we heard about and you can find it on AllTrails!).
hihi helo you😊😊😊
hello! 👋
Hi, planning to visit Chiang Mai during the first week of April, heard about the burning season there. Can you please provide me with any information about that?
Yes the burning season means dry rice fields and lots of smoke in the air... it's not the ideal time as air pollution is pretty bad during that time. In southern Thailand you won't notice it at all, but the north does as there are many rice fields / farmers living there
I'm watching this in my AirB&B in Silom, thinking whether if I should go Phuket or Chiang Mai.
Both very different destinations! Do you prefer beaches? Then go to Phuket. Do you prefer mountains, culture, and food? Then go to Chiang Mai!
@@worldwildhearts Thanks, I ended up going to Chaing Mai in the end, I heard it's one of the better places to go to in this world and nearby Doi Inthanon is the highest point in all of Thailand (went there too from Chiang Mai), along with an elephant sanctuary. Phuket is next year though, love Thailand
when I'm looking at the cooking class in the link it gives many options. how can I find the one that you took?
It's the first one that's highlighted. Name is: "Chiang Mai: Authentic Thai Cooking Class and Farm Visit"
Whereabouts is the ziplining and white water rafting?
It’s not in the city itself but can be arranged from there. You can talk to the travel agents in the city ☺️
Which cooking class did you take what was the name of the place thanks! 😊
The link is in the description below the video. It was called Grandma’s Home Cooking School
Excellent video! Is Chiang Mai a good place for IT freelancers who need a stable internet connection? Best regards🏆
Yes we believe it is! Many digital nomads living there
Many thanks👍@@worldwildhearts
Thank you for the informative video. Other than the scooter loop, this place seems boring (compared to Phuket, Bangkok, Pattaya).
Fair enough! It really depends on personal preferences 😁
Hey! I‘m planning my asia trip for 3 months (banana pancake trail).
Thailand will be my First destiny!
I‘m looking forward to be 2-3 weeks in Thailand.
How long should I stay in chiang mai, rai and Bangkok?
Awesome! Stay a few days in each city. Also make sure to explore beyond the cities, it’s the smaller towns and countryside that are the nicest 😎
I wish I could rent a scooter, but I don't have driving license.
I’m interested in the samoeng loop but where is the beginning point and the destination of the loop?😂
It starts and ends in Chiang Mai! If you add 'Samoeng Viewpoint' on Google Maps, you'll find the loop road!
How much is a red songthaew to Doi Suthep?
We can't remember but it's pretty cheap overall
Khao Soi is not Thai national food.
It’s from Myanmar I believe. They called it Khao Soi too
Where are the links
In the description below the video! you can open it underneath the video where it says "more"
did you get an international drivers licence?
We didn't but you do need one for Thailand. We got fined in Phuket because the police stopped us. The rental companies will never ask you because they're not liable.
Do you have a thai licence? I just watched a video where a guy was stopped by police 3 times within ONE hour! Could get expensive 😮
We didn't have a Thai license. We were stopped many times in Chiang Mai and no one said anything about our driving license not being international. They were all friendly... In Phuket, however, we did get a fine for driving a scooter without an international license
@@worldwildhearts Wow really? Thats a surprise, so you just showed them your B licence, or whatever its called in your homeland? My wife and I got pulled over and fined in Hua Hin, thanks for your reply, and for the nice videos ❤
*The elephants 🐘💔 are Beat & their spirits are Broken in order for tourists to ride on their backs.*
Sadly yes 😢
The very best thing to do right now in Chiang Mai is to leave as quickly as possible. With AQI figures reaching 500 in some areas, you shouldn't come here at this time of year unless you are bored of having healthy lungs.
Really? We were thinking to come here in about a month?
The data we see is 142. Didn’t notice ourselves when travelling there! Lots of nature spots to escape to
@@yossarianlives100 Should be quite a bit better in a month's time, especially if the rainy season has started by then. We are coming to the end of the burning season.
@@worldwildhearts I did try to answer this but you appear to have deleted my answer, which took me quite some time to type out, so I can't be bothered to do it again.
Avoid traveling there from late February to early May
The food is greasy and unhealthy especially the street food. You will not see much veggies in your dishes only in the pictures. Everything is sugary and fried.. but this video is excellent!
Really? Which particular dishes are you referring to? I believed that Thai foods are delicious and healthy comparing to many other cultures. As far as veggies go, there are STREET FOODS, not foods in restaurants that you can request whatever you want more in your dishes. Really, how much do you know about Thai foods to make such a negative comment?
They really don't care about celiac😢
My friend just spent 2 mos in Chiang Mai and posted pics of delicious Vegetable dishes..nothing fried or sugary
Depends on what you order....
Most farang comment ever
Not sure why anyone would want to visit CM. I'm here in CM now and it looks like a war zone. The sidewalks are torn completely apart forcing you to risk your life walking on the bust roads. It's shocking. If you're older all it takes is one fall and you could end up with a broken hip. try checking the survival rate of broken hips. They often end in death due to infections acquired in the hospital. CM is a major no-go zone. It's too bad none of these YTbers are interested in warning people about the dangers and bad sides of countries like Thailand. Rape is also very common in CM as are deaths on the road.
Erm no rape is not 'very common' in Chiang Mai, and neither are road deaths, no more so than anywhere else in Thailand at least.
what a boring city. phuket better
Personal preferences differ! We enjoyed Chiang Mai more 😊
Great video ................. 2024 I am planning to retire in HuHin buying small condo then buying 4x4 drive right through Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore & Vietnam.... hopeto find local multi lingual travel mates to share the experience with me
Best of luck!
