Went to Alternative monetary policy tools with Adrian Orr during covid, pumped house prices to an extreme in total opposition to Labour's promises. Interestingly, he also had no formal qualification of recognition in finance, which puts him in common with our current finance minister. He literally wouldn't have been able to get a job as an accountant in the real world. Our political system is seriously flawed.

yes, I left years ago. Kiwis inside the fishbowl don't get what NZ is, which is a tax haven for foreigners masquerading as an extractive economy owned by oligopolies for its day job. People that work there are no different to other resources being extracted, they're there to be extracted too. The govt provides the environment and protection for this process and always has. There is no free market, every sector is dominated by one or two participants producing a high margin duopoly in nearly every sector. The too small argument is trotted out, but that doesn't seem a problem for others, like say, Ireland. It's one big ripoff for the locals, one big holiday for the foreign rich.

When he came into office the national debt was 29b.... when they were voted out the national debt was 117b. That is a fact.... and his idiot theory was that interest rates were low so, it was the best time to borrow.... WRONG, He gave tax cuts to the wealthy and paid for it by raising GST. That is a fact. He also denied for 6 YEARS that New Zealand did not have a housing crisis until they were about to be voted out. That is a fact Failed to spend enough money on just the basic of maintenance for public hospitals, schools, roads and infrastructure. Sounds like they had good monetary policy back then? Fast forward to this government.... Tax cuts to wealthy land lords while offering the police a substandard pay offer. A roading plan which has a 24b hole. They took away the "Auckland petrol tax" good on them. But I have a sneaky suspicion that they will be raising fuel tax across the whole country to fill the 24b hole as the $100 hike in vehicle rego will not cover it. Cut spending to schools so they can not build additional classrooms etc, etc Sounds like good monetary policies?
