    The early production Series 1 E Type that this car was based on did not have power steering. In production form it was difficult to maneuver at parking speeds but as velocity increased the car came into its own and less effort was required. The rack and pinion steering transmitted a lot of information back to the driver, allowing for easily controlled powerslides. But if one fitted wider race tires, or radial tires, then the car became very difficult to steer, especially when the suspension was heavily loaded as in a slide. The right hand drive setup also required a bit of practice if one was used to left hand drive. With only 4 ratios there is a big gap between gears, especially in a car geared for 150+ mph. I owned several E types over many years and none of them could be shifted quickly. The Series 2 Jaguar built gearbox was a big improvement over the Moss gearbox used since 1949 until 1964. This car probably was fitted with a racing gearbox with straight cut gears as they are stronger, but without syncromesh timing is everything.

  • @TheWierdFish
    @TheWierdFish Před 11 lety

    Faster though. And the changes add a certain dynamic to the racing that's much needed in these days of aero-dependence making overtaking so difficult. That's the price you pay for 'progress'.

  • @TheWierdFish
    @TheWierdFish Před 11 lety

    Lightweights and lowdrags are slightly different. I'm not sure on the exact specs of each, but while the lightweights were a proper factory run, the lowdrags tended to be private and modified from either lightweights or standard cars.

    They're not bad. Road cars at least had a synchro box (although not on first on early cars) and the all round hydraulic disk brakes were excellent for the time, and are still good by modern standards.

    @Franzino01 Well it doesn't matter that much, but I find it very weird that someone fits a non-round steering wheel like this in to something what isn't a formula or something with very quick steering ratio.
    This is a very beautiful car but hearing it run in this video I doubt those carbs are jetted properly.

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.

    Sure is ordinary driving.
    Gear changes slow going up or down, no heel and toe.
    Looks like he is fighting with it more than piloting it.
    Car set up is bad too - for starters steering wheel not centralized. Maybe twitchiness in steering due to current set up.Going by video tendency is for oversteer.
    What a shame , this is a big money machine, wide angle cylinder head, aluminium block, all the latest whizz bang stuff. Kind of begs for top shelf driving and set up.
    Points awarded for having a go.
