    Hi Scott, great review!
    Iam also a big fan of Barbara!!!
    Some of my favs are Butterfly 1974, Stoney End 1971, Barbara Joan Streisand 1971. But I do love them all.
    Great job! Great content!
    Thank you so much

    Well done Scott! Enjoy your videos. I ordered this when it became available as a pre order. It was a long wait but worth it. You should get a copy for yourself for sure. I too saw her live in 2006. No voice comes close to hers and this release shows her extraordinary talent from the beginning.

      Thank you Ruth. Since I shoot in one take, I have to prep quite a bit. I run through my dialog, try different ideas, change the tone, etc while I'm driving usually. Just practicing. When it comes time to shoot, I have a good idea of at least the structure and what I want to convey. It rarely comes out perfect, and I'm super critical of things no one else notices. Can be frustrating but practice makes perfect.

    Inspired to check this out. Surprised no mention of Guilty, love that album unashamedly romantic it may be, very 80s but songwriting worthy of that wonderful voice which was not always the case with some of her albums. Thanks Scott keep up the high standard.

      @ThePressingMatters  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Steve! Thanks for watching! I do love Guilty too of course, it's just here I was keeping my selections from within the same general time period. You can stream this on most services if you'd like to check it out. It's quite different from the later albums from the late 70's, so a preview is a good idea.

    Well, that’s just great. Another TPM video, another wad of $$$ out the door. Thanks. Thanks a lot, Scott! 😉😉😉
    (Don’t take that seriously please!)
    I’ve always been a fan of Barbra. I love her (first?) Christmas album, and I have a few of her records from the 60s. Her voice is amazing, and what she does with it is equally amazing.
    When Bon Soir came out, I knew it would be good. And that it was on Impex really sweetened the pot. I’d already bought a dozen or so titles on Impex, and know they had extremely high standards. Everything they do sounds absolutely great.
    Not sure why I didn’t order this at the time. Then, I just forgot about it and hadn’t given it another thought until watching your very thoughtful, heartfelt, and informative video essay an hour or so ago.
    So of course I ordered it, was happy it’s still in stock at one of my favorite LP retailers (Elusive Disc).
    While I’m waiting for it to arrive, I’m going to listen once again to my early Barbra S records.
    Say, did you know she was only 20 years old when she recorded Bon Soir?? Amazing.
    Lastly: in the off chance you haven’t seen the 1972 film What’s Up Doc with Barbra and Ryan O’ Neill, I strongly recommend it. It’s hilarious, and Barbra exudes so much charisma, magnetism and star power. She sings a bit in the film, including a very memorable “As Time Goes By.”
    Wikipedia’s page on the film has a really interesting paragraph or two on the music of the film and the many musical “in-jokes.”
    Thanks again for another great video. I may be $60 poorer for watching it, but my soul is much more than $60 richer.
    Hope you are well. See you in the next video.

    • @ThePressingMatters
      @ThePressingMatters  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Wonderful comment! You know I wouldn't recommend anything that is not top notch. You really can't go wrong here - if you like the type of music on the 60's albums and love her wonderful voice, you'll be in heaven here. Really transports you to a special moment. The versatility in display is off the charts. Everyone seemed to be in awe. I'm sure you've seen the tv clip with Judy Garland and Ethel Merman. They knew they were in the presence of greatness and it's fascinating to watch. The first TV special is also a treasure. Beautiful through and through. Dazzling talent.
      I haven't watched What's Up Doc in years. I will definitely revisit it. Thanks for reminding me.
      Great to hear from you!
      Take care,
      Scott

    'Hello Scott. Where to start. I was a bit of a late bloomer with Barbra. I remember going to the beach when I was a kid, and Stoney End, People, etc would play on the radio. I liked those songs and always sang along. It wasn't until the late 90's when I started dating this guy who was a Babs fanatic. The first CD ( I don't think it was on vinyl at the time) he played was Higher Ground from 1998. It's not one of her better known releases, but my musical lightbulb went on when I heard it. The album is about spirituality, but not preachy. Being a fan, you may have heard it. If not, I think you''ll really love it.
    Then I went back to the beginning, and the rest, as they say was history. I've seen her twice in concert. My first was in 2006 at the Boston Gahden. I took my Mom and another Babs fanatic. There was a 58 piece orchestra. I still remember at the end of the overture, she was on a riser and came up to the stage. Just at the crescendo, a spotlight shown on her. I was one of the most electrifying moments of my life. Then she started with "Starting Here, Starting now. OMG !
    Sorry to go on so long, but you know how it is with a fellow Barbra lover, once I start it's hard to stop. I'm going to be picking this up, as you've never steered me wrong. I'll let you know what I think when I get it. I'm sure it will be glowing. Until next time, Johnny K.

      I LOVED this comment! It was great to hear all your remembrances of your exposure to Barbra and finally the full embrace. I have not heard Higher Ground but I will check it out on your recommendation.
      Johnny I predict you'll be smiling ear to ear when you hear this record. Please let me know when you've heard it!
      Thank you so much for your contributions to the channel and continued support.
