The normal Risk got taken down from steam for whatever reason so they moved to this one
This game that they play now is normal risk, risk factions has special buffs like airports and the defense die. But the game they play now is risk the board game.
Jerome also told why they play this game instead when they changed to this.There no longer is the Risk Factions on steam so they basically were forced to either abandon Risk content or change into this one

note dropsy said the heartland bonus was the biggest bonus on the map point wise yet it is 5 territories for a +3. meanwhile rocky mountains, appilachia mountains (my home), and texas area are all +4 with between 3-5 territories.
the fact that the rocky mountains isn't a territory you can take means I can just drive up to my little cabin in colorado which I stalked with about a year worth of food and it has clean water comeing from a well :)
