there should be a way to switch on original graphics in the rather than switching on the newer old vs new in my opinion I like the older graphics better

Call me old fashioned, but nothing will beat the original. The low poly count give me that nostalgic feeling. nontheless a great remake
For me it's not the polygons. The original had more ornamental textures that made everything look more luxorious and also the original had some crazy colors that the remake didn't replicate. The remake is more rocky and stuff less texture ornaments and less crazy colors.
Also the original made better use of cold light while the remake everything seems to be at sunset.
A little late to the show here, but... I was one of the original creators/artists for Spyro. I LOVE the new design for Spyro, except for one thing... his color!!! Spyro is the "little purple dragon", not the "little fuchsia dragon".
When I first saw teaser ads for Reingnighted, and a pink Spyro, I wrote ToysForBob and pointed this out. I also admited that it was just 'my opnioin'... but also, I was the one who picked the orginal color and painted Spyro's orginal textures. Sadly he remained pink.
That being said, the Reignited series is excellent. (although they also made a lot of other color changes throughout the game which I didn't see the need for)
Spyro is not pink, it depends on the lighting (the PS1 technically doesn't have dynamic lighting). But i understand you point of view.
@@saricubra2867 True, since in some of the promotional art he is closer to the color he should be (although even in those he's a 'warmer purple'.
The problem is, that in pretty much EVERY level, he appears pink. Which means, IMO, they needed to tweak the over all lighting.
To me, pretty much all their levels needed to have the overall lighting tweaked, because it wasn't just affectiong Spyro's color. Most everything, reguardless of the nature of the level/world, is shifted way too far into the yellows. Even the ice levels have a strong yellow tint to the lighting (most noticeable becauase Spyro is pink even in those levels).
Maybe I'm getting hung up on this, but I oversaw the overall pallets of the orginal games. I am the one who picked Spyro's colors and painted his textures. I also built, textured and lit about a 1/3 or the original levels and did all the sky boxes. So I may be a little sensitive to changes. (actually, they made a LOT of color changes, i.e. roof tops and other architecture, that I didn't see a reason to change)
Overall, the remastered levels are gorgeous, but I do have issues with the lighting and pallets. (and a few areas are a little too busy. Just because you can put stuff everywhere, doesn't mean you should)
@@gospyro I have a CRT TV and played the OG Spyro games there, the color that you see on raw footage of the PS1 games doesn't match how it looks.
In fact, Reignited Trilogy gets closer to that CRT-like look that it gives to the game with warm colors.
The places were Spyro looks kinda pink like on Artisans world is because it's afternoon. Meanwhile on Dark Hollow, looks like the purple i remember.
Spyro's skin color will always change because the original doesn't have lighting.

Yes, there are a few levels in Reignighted where Spyro is close to the orginal colors. But, the VAST majority of the game he is FUCHSIA. Yes, it's because the lighting is VERY yellow in a lot of levels, and IMO, it is FAR too yellow and has far too much of an impact, not only on Spyro's colors, but the colors of the entire level (and hense most of the game, because most of the levels have far too much yellow in the light).
Clearly the art director at TFB liked the extreme use of lighting affects and thinks just about everything should be shot during 'golden hour'. (even when events are taking place indoors)
But my argument is that even if shot during 'golden hour' Spyro should not and would not be pink.
I you look at the promo art, Spyro is closer to the purple he was/should be, but he is still a very pinkish purple. Clearly TFB wanted to make he pinker than the original.
Please remember when you are talking about watching Spyro on the PS1, via monitor or CTR, I am the one who painted those textures and lit those levels and I always looked at both a monitor and a CTR to make sure it looked the way I wanted it to on both screens.
Once again, it is only my opinon that Sypro is far too pink in Reignighted, but IMO, my opinon carries more weight than it usually would because of my work on the OG Spyro.
I think TFB has, overall, done an excellent job and Reignighted has introduced a whole new generation to Spyro, which is awesome. But there are still changes I would have made if I had been art director at TFB.
@@saricubra2867 Another change I would make is, TFB made Spyro's horns and crest the same color. It's not that it looks bad, I almost like it (and LOVE their model) but, given the chance, I would have found a way to differenciat the horns from his crest a little more.
My childhood in one game. I remember to played it all the weeks (until my PS1 dies :C). I never finished, because I was so young and I didn't understand so much about videogames, but I have a place in my heart to Spyro.

This game makes me so happy, the second I saw it available on Steam I bought it. It's just want I need after a sweaty game of comp Overwatch and it's not just nostalgia, I'm having fun. It's relaxing, and a gorgeous game, you can tell a lot of love went into this.

Honestly I would really enjoy an option to play the game with the older graphics as well. The remake is beautiful though.
The old game was made for PS1's MIPS architecture. It's impossible to run it on modern hardware without emulation. I'm not sure if you know this but the company that made MIPS (SGI) no longer exists. MIPS was great but it's a dead architecture. The last MIPS console was the PSP. Yes N64, PS1, PS2 and the PSP were MIPS systems. Yes those systems were Silicon Graphics technology.

@@matrix91234 It overall does. Because the original was very much capped to a very strict FPS limit... It was an older technology. Only modern game engines have variable Frame Rate... The old games had the timing of the events of the game locked to the frame rate meaning that... Instead of frame drop the games would LITERALLY SLOW DOWN and if you overclock the old consoles the games would run faster than they are supposed to. This is why old games were designed with clear limitations in mind they kinda follow real time application philosophy. The remake does not have such limitation if you get better hardware the FPS will increase a lot.

I’ve never played the originals (does Enter the Dragonfly count since I played that) but I think they have more character to them.
The PS1 graphics still look kind of dreamy, the new ones while great - feel like a Illumination movie.

Of all the things to like about the original, the thing i think i miss most is the gems flying all over the place pn the loading screens between levels. The remake is fantastic, but i wish they kept that one detail

I'm a big fan of The Creepypasta Characters The Sonic Series and The Spyro Series over The SCP Foundation Series The Mario Series and The Crash Bandicoot Series.
actually like the original, because it was right. some change in feeling happening on the remake, altough it looks better doesnt mean this is crucial.
If you zoom to 80000 magnification, you can see that their is no actual difference.
Im not sure I like the redesign of those big dragons....they look weirdly humanoid now.....
i think the redesigner's purpose was to give the dragons uniforms that would match match their personalities and be more friendly to little kids and they undoubtedly nailed that!

I don't know why people can complain the remake looks great and people saying the old version was more fun for me I used to like a old game called destroy all humans I loved the original game and I liked the original Spiro but the remakes I'm just not into them games anymore I just grow up it's why I don't think there as fun now as an adult

wow the difference are night and day. seriously. the remake has been compared to looking like something out of a dreamworks movie. the orginal. what can you say about it at this point. (to be fair my only experience with the remake so far is on the portable version on the switch)

you know i was thinking about that game i had a chance to play it a bit on my ps2 many many years ago but the disk was scatched up that i could not make it very far :(
Greetings! You're currently reading the opinion of the only person on the planet that DOES NOT like the way Reignited looks. Not at all. Here's why: The colors are all wrong, everything is over-detailed and distracting to look at, the lighting is weird and the bloom effect is very apparent on Spyro, and the contrast is cranked up. When I first saw Reignited, I didn't even see those Gnorcs because they literally blend into the environment. Look at how much they stand out in the original. This is something that even old Insomniac were aware of and fixed it. Also, did they fire the guy who mowed the grass or what? Just look at that overgrown shit. The sky boxes in the original were SO much better too. They provided the right atmosphere and mystical nature of the dragon world, unlike the plain ones in Reignited. Now let's move onto movement. In the OG, everything was still sharp and easy to see. Yes, it was pixilated a lot and very polygonal. Yes, it could have been a little better, but it's fine. Especially for its era. This is not the case in the remake. No. Instead, everything is so blurry when you move. It's literally sickening. We can also talk about the frame rate. Now, let me be perfectly clear...I am NOT a frame rate snob, and usually don't even notice it. However, I did in the remake. I'd rather have a constant smooth running 30FPS than a choppy and sometimes smooth 60FPS. How can something possibly look better when it's super blurry and has a choppy frame rate? I don't care what anyone says, that shit sucks. With that out of the way, we can talk about design. Like I said before, it's so overdetailed that it's hard to tell what's what anymore. Especially when you're going fast and everything has motion blur up 500%. The artistic liberties are also unwelcomed IMO. I don't like the redesign of the dragons at all. There was nothing wrong with how they were. Notice how Spyro is the only one that isn't like this. What this implies is that he'll eventually grow up to be a painter or something. Does that sound like Spyro to you? Because it doesn't to me. Lastly, let's talk about voice acting. In the original, it was so much more charming. Take Hunter for example. He used to be clumsy, clueless, and goofy. Now he's a tOtAlLy RaD SuRfER dUDe...who is way too cocky for his own good. He went from charming to insufferable in no time flat. If you're going to take anything from this, just remember that updated / remade DOESN'T mean it's better.

I'm just glad that Activision got the license for Spyro they really took some labor of love when making this trilogy I'm glad that company snatch up the license before any other did because if they didn't I would feel that companies like EA and Rockstar would make a Cash cow out of it without taking time to really appreciate why the game was fun in the first place and they would totally screw over the loyal fans of the original versions of the trilogy. Just look at what Rockstar did to Grand theft Auto V (Grand theft Auto IV was an exception because they had two downloadable major story lines but they still didn't try to make a cash out of Grand theft Auto IV itself) they made a cash cow out of it and to some extent EA did too but you feel like when you get there DLCs they make it worthwhile and take time to really appreciate the fans they have.
