Jace Lays A Log (Boys Will Be Boys)(1960s America)

- @Ted-Says - Jace's father can't (or won't) afford a housekeeper, instead he makes his youngest son Jace do all the hard work, like getting a nice log fire going in the grate, while dad sits around and gives "advice". It looks like Jace hasn't removed the ash from the last log burning, naughty boy. In summer, he has to climb up inside the fireplace and clean out the flue with a brush, it's a tough life growing up in a nice American home. Well, that's my take on it anyway.
As this is mid-1960s America and cultural revolution is in the air, note how the boy is wearing red socks - is he trying to tell us something? - Zábava
I'm wallowing in nostalgia here, and I never even had a fireplace.

@ColonelMarcellus - Not relevant to your comment, but many years back, I was involved with a company which ripped out old fireplaces and mantelpieces, and replaced them with wooden ones and a gas fire. Years later, people started to pay serious money to buy preserved old mantelpieces and have them refitted. I'm thinking of having a heat pump installed, either that or a politician because they talk so much hot air, they'd keep the house cosy in Winter.

@ColonelMarcellus - Heat pumps also won't claim they're above the Law and thus immune from any kind of criminal prosecution, however heinous.
Yeah, I know - if he had some red in his shirt, at least he could claim it was a fashion statement (I tried to match my socks with my shirt color when I was his age).
My grandparents' summer bungalow where my mom and us boys and aunt and her girls spent summers with my dad and uncle coming up on weekends had a big (or so it seemed to us then) stone fireplace in the living room (no other heat source) and I loved starting the fire with newspaper and twigs when i was old enough to be trusted. But I best loved putting marshmallows on sticks to brown (or black) them over the fire.
Your comment about cleaning out the flue brought to mind my romantic visions of chimney sweep boys from a few centuries ago. But then I read the Wikipedia entry about them and such visions have been dispelled - what horrid lives they had. I better avoid Wikipedia in regards to link boys so I don't ruin Sir Joshua Reynold's painting for me.
@nelllybellly1 - Thanks for the nostalgia, as always a simpler world back then. Regarding boy chimney sweeps, I read Charles Kingsley's "The Water-Babies" (yes, there is a sugary cartoon version) as a boy and became fully aware of the evils of child labour - those boys rarely lived to manhood. The British white working classes had an appalling time during the Industrial Revolution & beyond which nobody talks about these days.

@theplayerx3641 - You are talking about the old, now deleted, Ted Says channel, which included a lot of copyrighted material. I restarted the channel to mostly avoid copyright issues, so it is unlikely I will re-post the ear-pulling vids you refer to, although if I find other ear-pulling stuff, I would be happy to share it.
