  • I recently traded in my Triumph Bonneville T120 Black for a brand-new 2024 Triumph Scrambler 900, in Cosmic Yellow. I’ve only had the new bike for a few days, but I’ve got 400 miles on it and a whole bunch of love and respect for this beautiful machine. It's the perfect bike for older riders, new riders, and just about everyone else. Join me and I’ll give you my first impressions, and tell you an odd little story about how I got here, after placing a deposit on a Triumph Scrambler 400X.

No hype, no pressure to compete and be the most intense rider.

Congratulations. Its funny, I just started riding again at age 72 after 50 years off. I have a 2002 T100 that just cleared the run in miles. I too was taken by the scrambler 900 when I was looking for a bike. I remain smitten with it. It is a lovely bike and particular in my area of rural Vermont which is full of good dirt roads. We shall see. So far my T100 is holding on to me pretty tight. There was a yellow version exactly like yours at our local Triumph dealer show room. Enjoy. You have landed on your bike it seems.

@@BugMotoChannel Not my cup of tea, but I do see the reason for the appeal. Very classic retro look. My T100 is a gold line edition. Other than the side covers, (which I dislike), I am very happy and content with the bike. I replaced the gold line side covers recently with plain back T100 covers. Much better. Honestly, given the time and effort to become adjusted to a bike, I can't help getting attached. I do agree though, it is really about the riding experience.

50 years off, welcome back 👍😁
I’ve just come back from a 40 year break. 1984 I crashed and wrote off my bike, bought a car and not been on one since.
Late last year I picked up my new Scrambler 900 identical to the one in this vid,
[having had hip surgery a few years ago I wanted a bike that was easy to ride that a beginner could ride around town but still be fun on the country roads and also capable of keeping up with traffic for a short run up the motorway/freeway.
I absolutely love it, ‘it does everything that is said on the tin’ [it’s a small easy to ride bike with a big powerful torquey engine and everything i needed to find my feet on 2 wheels again]
In the evenings I am using it around town in the city, beat the traffic and park anywhere.
On the weekends I am running it out of town to cruise around the country lanes.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Scrambler 900 ownership, and thank you, thank you for selling my bike to me again, when truth be told I've been letting my eye drift towards the temptation of something new.
You know that feeling, that "I've owned this motorcycle for a while, there's nothing wrong with it but oh look at this shiny new one" feeling? I've been sitting with that feeling a while, the lure of Triumph's Scrambler 400X becoming ever harder to resist. Only today, I popped to the Triumph day at London's Ace Café, parked Tallulah, my white 2019 Scrambler 900 slightly too close to a 400 that the local dealer had brought and found myself with that itch again.
And then I came home, and there was this video, and watching it, hearing your excitement at the start of your new adventure, well it reminded me of my first few rides, and, well, I'm sorry Tallulah for letting your shiny little cousin draw my eye, it won't happen again.
As for luggage, don't worry too much about that high pipe, I've dropped you an email with a photo of two of Tallulah all loaded and ready to go, I hope it helps.
Enjoy your cosmic yellow, she's a beauty, but just so you know....

I just sold my Kawasaki Versys, took the money and bought a 2017 Triumph Street Scrambler. The Versys was a better bike in some ways but I didn’t like it, too tall, too bulky, and too lazy, it had a powerful engine, but it only came alive at very high RPM, it also need another gear between 3 and 4 and between 5 and 6. That engine was never happy or smooth at the current gear, so I would either go up or down a gear and it would just make it worse, it just wanted to be riden hard all the time. So I went to see and tested a 2012 Triumph T100 and I loved it’s smoothness and its agility right from take off, we couldn’t agreed on a price, so I didn’t get it, but that turned me on to get a Triumph. Eventually I found a good deal on a 2017 Street Scrambler, although it doesn’t feel exactly as the 2012 T100, but it is close enough and I fell in love with the looks, the high pipes and all. Finally Yesterday I was able to take the scrambler for my first all day ride to discover the bike and get a feel for it. Here is what I found, the engine is lovely, it fits my style of riding better, I could ride country roads all day on 3rd gear at speeds between 40 - 55 and the engine was completely happy, no weird vibrations, totally relax and plenty of get up and go available, perfect engine for what I do and what I enjoy. The only downside is seat comfort and suspension, the Versys was way more comfortable. My scrambler came with two seats, the stock, and the Triumph bench seat, I will try the stock seat next. The suspension doesn’t soaks up the bumps, it just jumps around and jabs me around. The handlebars are a bit too forward for my liking. But all in all, it is a better fit for me and my style of riding, so am happy with my new bike and I feel more motivated and more inspired to go out riding than I did with the Versys.

I have the identical bike in the same colour, When I picked up it up end of last year I was a little bit disappointed with the engine and exhaust sound.
[seemed a little bit higher pitched / tinney, than the deep rumble of others I’ve seen]
But having run the engine in - the exhaust sound seems to have deepened as the engine has loosened up.
It sounds best when you are cursing in 3rd gear between 30 and 40MPH and then open it up to accelerate, the power and torque kicks in and gives a real satisfying rumble for the exhaust.

Last month I bought a brand new Triumph Scrambler 1200xe.
Oh, what a fabulous bike it is!

Hey Bug, congrats on the new bike. Every time I see you on one of those Bonnevilles I immediately go to the Triumph website to check them out. As for camping on the new Scrambler I follow an Australian guy on CZcams named Rob Hamilton. He also has a 900 Scrambler he camps off of (he also has a Yamaha T7) so I thought he might provide some ideas for you. Enjoy the new bike! I’ve ridden that stretch of Hwy 14 in WA when I liven up there, miss the scenery.

Small world! As a multi-bike owner, I can help you with your conscious. It has nothing to do with practicality. Practicality is what got you to the place where owning more than (fill in the blank) is possible. The idea is not to maintain course but to have your second or more so in my case, my first childhood. And to have it unleashed, off the hook, wild and loose, carefree, and full of bliss. The answer to how many motorcycles should one own the answer is always, one more. I didn't ride for a long while, my location made it unwise, as in I probably would've been run over. My wife asked me why I ride motorcycles every day as long as the ice has been removed from the road. My answer, straight from my heart was, because it's the only thing in my life that I know will bring me joy every time without fail.

What a beautiful piece of machinery. I am a big Triumph fanboy and I used to have a Scrambler of the previous generation. That was the 865 cc air cooled twin. Loved that bike and there were only two things that I was not so excited about, heat coming from those high pipes in stop-and-go city traffic on hot summer days, and the overall weight. Eventually I sold it a few years ago, but I still miss that bike.
And then two months ago I almost bought a yellow 2024 Scrambler, exactly like yours.😄
It did not happen because I took a different path at the very last moment. However every time I see a Scrambler, I just have to admire its beauty and I keep thinking, well, maybe next time...
I agree with you, having two bikes is the optimal number for me too. Anything more and then you have some of the bikes neglected, which is a shame.
That is why I keep my stable at two, but because of that I do not have a GTS in bianco innocente that I also like so much. BTW, that is how I found your channel even though I never had a Vespa.
Anyhow, enjoy your new ride, and keep up with both channels, your content is great.

    Hello BugMoto.
Your video made me buy a Triumph Scrambler 900 few hours ago. I'm from Brazil and since I dreamed about getting a Triumph, I imagined myself on a Scrambler 900.
Years went by and I could discover different Bonneville models and the desire for more power got me, for no reason at all. I sold my Interceptor 650 (amazing bike, by the way) to buy the T120. I rode 5 different T120 and none of them gave me the comfort, the style and the personality that the Scramblers did.
Last saturday I lived something simmilar that you experienced. I rode the 400x and I had a lot fun, nice position, amazing styling. Then right after I rode the T120. I didn't had the same experience and not even the same fun compared to the Scrambler. The T120 is amazing. Maybe is the best Triumph bike. But the 900 has more personality, styling. The Scrambler can take anywhere. How many bikes have you seen with a high exhaust, amazing engine and great sound?
So excited to hop on my new Triumph and enjoy as you been doing.
    Greetings from Brazil.

  • @robertdavis7452

I went from a 900 Street Twin to a T120 for two reasons. The larger fuel tank capacity, and the 1200 has a 6 speed where the 900 has a 5 speed.
The 900 has tons of character, i love the sound, but the increased range and gear make the T120 a better option for someone who uses their bike as a means of transportation opposed to a toy.
A factory T120 may seem a little dull in comparing the exhaust note, and the style, but with a couple mods they come alive.

    • @BugMotoChannel
      @BugMotoChannel  Před 14 dny

Yeah the fuel capacity of the 900 Scrambler is really kind of a bummer. That, and the tubed tires, are really my only two serious gripes at this point. But I knew both going in so I can’t really complain. I really don’t miss the sixth gear though. So far, anyway.

Congratulations on getting your new Scrambler 900! It's funny isn't it, I've been riding my white Scrambler for 3 years having fun customizing it, and have been thinking about getting a Vespa 300 GTS as well for commuting duties, which led me to your other channel. Probably a bit like the Vespa, the Scrambler 900 isn't the best at anything, not the fastest or the lightest or the best handling or the best off road bike, but it is so much more than the sum of it's parts and I absolutely love it more than any other bike that I've owned since 1997. Change a few bits on it and ride it fast or slow, whatever you feel like, and get ready to have many conversations with random passers-by. Do change the front mudguard when you have a chance, it is a part for the Speed 900 with a smaller wheel so it just looks odd on the Scrambler, a bit of cheapskate corporate cost-cutting on an otherwise fine looking bike. I swapped mine for a Motone part, amongst other things. Once you've noticed it you can't unsee it....! Enjoy!

It’s the same factory metal as the bike, so looks “factory” in my opinion. I have seen some straps weather in the sun on pictures online, but I store the bike in the garage so no worries there. The bag locks onto the rack with a knob behind the waterproof liner, so mind that so the bag doesn’t come off inadvertently. I quite like it. There’s a great review on CZcams by a British guy who has this sarcastic take on the bag, but in the end declares it brilliant, and I would agree with his assessment
