Don't look at Alilaguna schedules but look for ACTV waterbuses instead. Where Alilaguna only services a few fixed lines ACTV (which the Venetians themselves use) services the whole of Venice, plus ACTV is a lot cheaper. Only use Alilaguna when you want to catch a waterbus from Marco Polo airport to Venice.

I stay regularly on both sides of the lagoon, but my favorite hotels are on the Mestre side of the bridge. Train and/or bus service is pretty much 24-7. Nothing beats exploring Venice in the wee hours when all the tourist bus groups have departed and the cruise line passengers have scrambled back to the boat.

GOOD TIP: Go to Piazza de Roma and buy a local’s Vaporetto card ($100) then load it with as many Vaporetto trips as you want. Benefit? I was in Venice for two weeks and wanted to take a Vaporetto WHENEVER I wanted to. With this you are not locked into a certain number of days. Each Vaporetto trip is VERY cheap compared to $7.50 each trip for tourists. Also, good for five years. (I am going back for Carnivale.) TIP: Venice is NOT FUN when it is hot. May 15th it started getting hot! Where to stay? I stayed in Cannaregio… furthest point …apt. near grocery store and absolutely loved it! Quiet. Beautiful. Great restaurants.

Kris Chun Hi, it is not dangerous, but it’s a very touristic area, that is the least nice place on the island.

Thanks alot for this video and resources... I have a question: Why do you recommend not staying near the train station? You mentioned that it's not a nice place to stay... why is that?

Hi, it was a very touristy area. I would avoid that area.
