  • Huawei has packed a lot of great hardware into the MatePad Pro, however its flagship features are undermined by an unpolished software experience, let alone the lack of Google services and premium price tag, it is a difficult recommendation.

    Since huawei is focused on photography. I wish huawei would release their own version of photoshop, premiere and after effects.. just like garageband and imovie on ipad.. the specs sounds enticing but lack of professional apps makes me a second thought of buying this device.

      I agree. I've been looking for an alternative from iPad Pro. I use ps and clip studio. It's been a headache because i don't want to spend too much on iPad. I've already spent on Windows. Sucks that there is something close but not there yet..

    Hi. am thinking of using tablet for light work (Microsoft office suite, zoom, news app reading, Gmail n hotmail) and occasional entertainment (Spotify, CZcams, Netflix). Most of these can be done thru Huawei app gallery, or require sideloading? And how's the experience?
    (Also yes agreed with you it'd make a much greater app if it went with Windows. Though I'd presume they've a ban on that too I guess?)

Apps like Instagram were designed only in portrait orientation, how did EMUI desktop mode handles those apps? And how did the window resizing work on third party apps? most review videos i've found were showing Huawei's own apps

    No matter how good the tablet hardware is , lack of developer app support and worse tablet software is a big let down. I try to use the Tab S6 as my daily driver but at the end i still went back to my old iPad Pro 10.5 . Excellent hardware on Tab s6 but the software just isn’t there yet , if you ever going to buy a tablet just look for software instead of hardware. iPadOS handsdown the best and i don’t think there’s any other competitor can beat it as you can tell apple had been dominated the tablet market for so many years.

    • @axel1562
      @axel1562 Před 4 lety +3

      I would use an iPad but Apple doesn't allow emulators on the app store and takes down all the workarounds so android is the only option for that.

      @Owen-bl7xn Před 4 lety

      best tech commercials i guess he meant apps that only can be downloaded outside the app store. For me i have no issue with iPad apps at all , all the apps work incredible well as developer had optimised most of the apps for iPadOS. I guess you can give Tab s6 a try , if i must get an android tablet , no doubt it will be Tab S6 or Tab S5E depend on my budget. Like my original comment , Tab S6 will work fine now but after a few years you will realise the lack of support in term of software is big deal in tablet.

      I have iPad, Huawei mediapad m6 and surface go, the latter two are used by my kids for remote learning from school. Surface is very good as it’s windows,k but huawei is very snappy in performance but getting google services is a long shot and if you are not familiar with the android ways and means it’s tough. iPad is very good but using Microsoft apps like teams and the files from schools in ppt and word always has couple of steps extra needed for proper operation. An example , if the teacher shares a ppt file in teams, the sounds or narration in the ppt won’t play unless you open it in PowerPoint native iPad app and put in presentation mode . Microsoft surface go would be the safest bet for education in my opinion having experienced all three platforms, after all you get a windows computer with a surface.

      Zach Zanal Linux isn’t very good on mobile devices, it’s better on PCs. Also, Android is based on Linux. The problem with current Huawei is lack of third party support, and switching to another system won’t change that not to mention Linux based OS is worse than Android in terms of software compatibility.

    Very good review. Your channel would benefit from a comparison to the Samsung Tab S6 which would be its most direct rival. That can now be picked up cheaper than the Huawei and it appears to be executed better. It would also be good to re-evaluate the MatePad by side-loading the Google Play store and sharing your thoughts. It would appear to be less problematic than their phones as you cannot use the newer Huawei phones on banking or other apps that require security authentication. This is not such a big issue for the tablet IMO.

I think Huawei has to fix desktop mode and would recommend installing termux and maybe a way to run a linux desktop on top of it if you want greater range of apps and a more desktop like experience. So far I am happy with the "tablet" mode android. Though granted if apps are poorly optimized for tablet usage its a big turn off.

    Literally not worth the hassle and security risk (from installing GMS via backdoor) to save less than 1k for a cheap iPad Pro clone. I used my Air 2 for a good 5 years and my next upgrade has to last another 5 years at least. Stay safe!

    I think that the MatPad Pro is the best device for the money. If you really wanted to, you could have made it as if it was any other Android tablet. Just get a third party kauncher, for example, if the widgets look wierd and the app icons are spaced too much. Also, installing the Google Play Store and other Google apps is just a matter of an hour. As for Windows 10, it's also possible to install that within a day, even though the M-Pencil won't work with it.

    I should have watched this video first before I purchased my Huawei MatePad Pro. I was enticed by the pre order freebies (M Pencil and Keyboard Cover). There's just too many issues within one week of use besides not having Google App of course. When you pair the Keyboard to the device after couple hours of use the virtual keyboard would disappear even if you keep it on in the settings. You would have to restart the device for it show again. I live in the Philippines and most banking apps (which are very important to me) does not work on this device while it perfectly work on my Nova 5T. I thought absence of Google App store was not that of a big deal because most reviews here in you tube says that it's not an issue with them. We'll let me tell you thst it is in fact a big deal. The Huawei App gallery's application are TRASH, most if not all. I think they we're too excited to launch their own ecosystem even if it's so premature for them to do so. The tablet automatically updated to EMUI 10.1 which I thought was great, but it was just hell. Most apps that was working before the update crashed and bugged after updating to 10.1. Facebook and messenger for instance. There was NO MEETIME in EMUI 10.1. It was a fraud!! lol There's nothing special on the desktop mode. It just like using your tablet on a horizontal view with a keyboard and that's it. Microsoft Office Apps worked better in midrange mobile phones like Nova 5T and Nova 3i. I love the M Pencil but not very useful at all. This device was over hyped and most reviews that we see here in CZcams are so "by the book". they based it on what was written on the package and based on numbers. But if you get to experience using the device like I do, An iPhone or Samsung with 3gig of RAM has NO difference on this device when it comes to functionality and performance. This for me is a biggest disappointment and a waste of money.

      @@Alexutzification you are on youtube.. you can search for it. "GMS install huawei" same install process i use for my Mate30pro and mediapad pro. I can use google playstore and even make purchases using google pay for in-app purchases. I can also use microsoft Intune for company portal. From android and GMS perspective, not a single bit less than my previous samsung S8. 5 minute to go thorugh the installation process. Its a huge bargain to get huawei gadgets now days.. with silly reviewers blindly revieweing gadget from a box. Not giving its vierwers the best insights or best bargains.. Keeping the prices low for users like me :)

      @@klgadgettv I have to agree on this comment there are ways, of course its much easier if you have google service, but if we can install essential apps thru other means which is not very complicated or technical then it should not be a problem.

    The reason u don’t want an android tablet is because its to expensive to afford? And u use iPad? Are u from earth?

      To rephrase it better, it is too expensive to pay for a bad software experience.

      Take for instance a Galaxy Tab S6, you'll need to add on a keyboard + stylus to complete the experience, where an entry level iPad with the full package will cost lesser with a much polished experience. I'm sure in the video I didn't specifically mention that anyone should get an iPad Pro.
