'Pretending not to know about things we all knew about yesterday'. As good a definition on this idiocy as any I've heard.
Both woke and Ingsoc demand that all know about things we don't know about, while all pretending to not knowing about things we know about.
"...we _all_ knew about yesterday". After bemoaning how people are being lumped together and their ideas being expressed as though they were an amorphous mass, he goes on to do exactly the same thing when it suits _his_ agenda.
He ties himself in knots several times during this interview.

The groups think he was discussing prior to that was assuming someone holds a particular view based on being lumped into a group of people who share an often immutable characteristic or interest. _All_ humans know what the sky is but we'd be asking questions if someone was stating its actually the ocean, vs a notion that all redheaded people must believe in the tooth fairy simply because of their hair colour.

Dr. Kathleen Cleaver, human rights activist, and former member of the black Panther party, first coined the term woke, back in the 1960’s, during the civil rights movement. Woke, means to be politically conscious, politically aware, well informed, to well educated on injustices.

as a woke person I believe in science, unless it conflicts with what my leaders tell me to believe about things like covid, trans in sports, and climate change. Also, I think the phrase "history repeats itself" is pretty dumb. sooner of later a really cool and successful anti-capitalist society will form and allow total freedom for all, like literally zero oppression, we just have to be very woke and I don't think we should tolerate any ideas contrary to ours because we clearly stand for freedom and expression!

The word has a meaning in the dictionary. Interesting how he avoids mentioning the meaning of the word entirely and then (with no source even mentioned) says someone said stuff. Yet even if they were as dumb as he portrays them, words do not change meaning simply because some random person doesn't know the meaning. This is the bane of people who support burning dictionaries, hiding history, and other truths they're uncomfortable with.
Maybe instead, ask why these people are so easily offended by such things as history, definitions, and freedom.

Look who controls the media - global influences attempting to control narrative & vocabulary.
As far as I can tell it started with activist groups who weaponised social media to bully anyone who disagreed with them. They discovered that they could use deceitful language to get someone cancelled. Thus someone who expresses disagreement is problematic, a bigot, saying unacceptable things which cause hurt and distress. Companies jumped on board as they didn’t want their brand damaged. And of course fellow travellers are feted, and welcomed.

It's called straw-manning, it's a common debating technique used by liars.

Jokes aside, this isn't a straw-man. A straw-man is intentionally misinterpreting the opponents argument so you end up arguing something much easier for you and harder for them. What the commenter described is much more similar to the Socratic method, developed by renounced genius of the ancient world Socrates.
That is a powerful observation. So simple to understand and yet not so simple to perform.
Watching Douglass perform here is akin to watching other professionals. Seems so easy to replicate which is not the case for normies.
It's also a powerful tool to use when unaware of confirmation bias.

I'm trying think of reasons why they want to deconstruct our society and keep thinking it is solely because they struggle with how they fit in - it is all about how they feel about themselves and want others to recognise them. Just their self esteem, and if they can't get what they want, they'll destroy on their path to get it. The rest of us just want to get on with things and cooperate, because we see the benefit in doing that.
Who is they? Am I, as a trans person, a part of they?

I also really want to get on with things and cooperate, but there are a lot of people working to make my life very difficult right now through specifically anti-trans legislation. I have to make decisions about where I can live in relative safety based on which states have laws that could get me arrested and cultures that could get me assaulted. People like Douglass Murray aren't interested in letting people like me live their lives in peace.
My goal is to make the world more free and peaceful throughout my lifetime. I want a world in which trans people aren't associated with an absurdly high suicide rate. I want a world in which conservatives and liberals can make peace with each other and stop the needless fighting.
