Zairean and Rwandan troops exchanged heavy arms fire across their border on Tuesday (29/10), with shells raining on a residential area of the Rwandan town of Cyangugu. WTN's crew in Cyangugu was pinned down in the crossfire, only managing to withdraw through Rwandan army lines at first light on Wednesday, during a lull in the fighting. The exchange of fire came amid an uprising in Eastern Zaire by a group of ethnic Tutsis, the Banyamulenge, who've lived there for generations, and the
resultant exodus of hundreds of thousands of Rwandan and Burundian refugees and displaced Zaireans who are trying to escape the fighting.
