You just watched once of the finest fiddle ( or violin ) players who ever lived. Once Charlie was appearing on a show. In the green room before the show, a classical violinist commented that anyone could play fiddle but not everyone could play classical. Charlie without a word opened his case, took out his fiddle and played a difficult classical piece to perfection. The violin player had nothing else to say.

I never met Charlie Daniels, but I talked to him several times on the phone, and a nicer gentleman I never held a conversation with. Back more than twenty years ago, I co-managed a Southern Rock band (former members of Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet & Blackfoot) and Charlie Daniels called up a couple times to arrange a cross sale for merch (he sent us a bunch of his new CDs & shirts to sell, and we sent him a bunch of ours) After we got all the business straightened out, I got to tell him how much I liked this song (me, an OG punk rocker, ork ork) He was very humble about it and thanked me for telling him that. I'm sure he heard it all the time, but he made me feel like he really did appreciate it. That's my Charlie Daniels experience.

Old horror movies often use an instrument called a theremin to create an eerie sound, but it is entirely possible the particular sound to which you refer was a violin, as the higher notes on a violin are often used to create discomfort in the viewing audience. A theremin sounds vaguely familiar to a violin, but a theremin is not at all stringed. It is a fascinating instrument.
I saw the Charlie Daniels Band in the 90s while in high school. They did a concert for a fundraiser for the fire department in my county. The fire department almost had to evacuate the building that night because Charlie nearly brought the roof down when he played this song -- and in his 60s!

My daughter's youth orchestra conductor actually explained the real difference between a violin and fiddle. A violin has a very curved bridge, to separate the strings so that you only play one at a time. A fiddle is a violin that has had the bridge filed to flatten it a bit, so that you can play more than one string at a time. It gives it that twangy harmony.

I learned violin as a child in school. In my 20's a friend of mine who played got me one at a discount. He's fantastic, he's from Louisiana, a brilliant player. So I asked him, "It's been years since I've played, I don't remember much, now I've got a violin again, will you teach me?"
He said, "I can't teach you to play the violin, I can teach you to play the fiddle."
I think it's in the style more than the instrument.

It's always so much fun to see someone react to Charlie Daniels for the first time! Yes, I'm one who remembers hearing both versions on the radio: SOB and son of a gun! We always hoped to hear the sob one, but most of the time, it was son of a gun. People who turn their noses up about country music really don't understand the variety there is, nor understand the talents of many country musicians. Thanks BP for introducing Anthony to the late great Charlie Daniels, RIP.

In the old horror movies you were probably hearing a strange instrument called the theremin, arguably the first electronic musical instrument to be mass produced, invented in the 1920s in Russia and played by moving your hands close to it without touching it.
It was used in a number of horror movies and sci fi space alien movies, as well as Hitchcock's Spellbound, and in the Beach Boys' song Good Vibrations you can hear a variant of it called the Electro Theremin

Here's another song by the Charlie Daniels Band, if interested. "Charlie Daniels Band - Orange Blossom Special (Live)" (by the channel: Charlie Daniels) --Charlie Edward Daniels was an American singer, musician and songwriter. His music infused rock, country, blues and jazz and was one of the leading bands to pioneer southern rock. The band released a total of 30 studio albums, 8 live albums, and 4 compilation albums. This song I've suggested is from their fifth studio album called "Fire on the Mountain" and released in 1974 and went certified Platinum. I enjoyed jamming with you two fellas, thanks for sharing.🎶

I was born in 73, and this is not country, it's more on the line of Bluegrass music... which is "mountain music" brought to Appalachia from Ireland and Britain., many years ago... country music was played by black and white farmers, on the US plains, at the same time, and earlier.. Early country music is actually folk blues.. this music has it's roots in the post civil war era and there are recordings of it going back to the turn of last century and probably back to the 1880s. . I own them some that date back to the 1910s and 20s. Country music split off to become what we now know as modern blues and country... oddly, from around this time, country was predominately, not entirely, white music, blues was predominately, not entirely, black music.. . How do I know? I have literally listened to about 1,000,000 different songs in my life... no joke here. I am a freak I guess. :P Now, we can talk about JAZZ, if you like? It has a different path as well.. but later on, these music styles start to blend. We call this FUSION.. everything has it's roots, most things have FUSION, later on...

My first time watching y’all. First thing I thought? Y’all are so cool looking 👩🏻‍🏫😍‼️ I’ve been knowing this song ever since it came out, and I’m from western New York (live in Alabama now & Tupelo, Mississippi before that). It’s a great song!!! I didn’t get into Country Music until I was about 18 (1971). Listened to & watched mostly Elvis, Rock and R&B.

My favorite reaction channels are those when young rappers like yourselves discover the awesome music of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I hope you do more of it. Great reaction.

I love you guy's ability to open your heart and soul and embace the diversity found in all types of music. Myself? I thought I hated country, but I decided to give it a chance and listened to the storytelling. I feel my horizons have expanded exponentially.

The instrument that gets played in horror movies you're thinking of is called a theremin, it's this funky electronic wave making machine you play by waving your hands in the air.

Charlie often went through two bows during a concert. He was so good at it that he would wear the first one out!

If y’all like this, you should check out ( actually a lot of Charlie Daniels songs) but “Midnight Train “. He spits bars, sangs and does storytelling at the same time. It’s like you’re watching a movie in your mind!

He’s a fantastic storyteller and definitely puts vivid pictures in your head. Uneasy Rider is another one that you can see while you listen.

Today's Country music is vastly different then what "Country" was in the 40's to today. Another song to consider for a reaction would be - Chad Brock's - Lightning Does The Work ; off of his self titled first album.

BP going full ham to Charlie Daniels is everything! I saw Charlie in East Texas back in 1985. Delbert McClinton opened for him. I went to see Delbert, but I left that stadium a Charlie Daniels fan for life! Just Subscribed. I mean Stevie Ray and now Charlie ? Yep. Oh, if you want to see Stevie Ray performing with another mind blowing guitarist, you MUST check out Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan "Look at Little Sister ". Jeff was blind.I consider him to be right up there in playing skills as Stevie Ray. 👌😅🤣😂🤠🥳

The old, quintessential scary movie sound / instrument I believe you were thinking of is the theremin. As far as strings, Bernard Hermann's score for the movie "Psycho" was entirely strings (and horrifying as heck).

I must say my favorite part was when you was really into this song Anthony & BP was feeling the heights of this song & he reached out & grabs you & you are jumping startled teehee I'm sorry but I was rollin😂. Y'all had a blast from the past & this one really got BP going on his 1st debut too. Now this is a classic as I've heard it throughout my entire lifetime as I'm close to the age of Eminem. I f you can hear it a lot of the music I think is based on times of Irish or Scottish sounding music maybe it's the fiddle because it's prominent but I know many settlers in the south especially this are where from those places as my mom's last name was pure Irish🍀
