- In this video I delve into the production of how the pieces of rolling stock, also known as the coaches were made in the classic seasons of Thomas the tank engine and friends.

finally somebody had made a video about the express coaches. The reason why I liked Gordon in the first place. Thanks for making this video.
What about Edward's other coaches they were similar in color as the green with beige express coaches but instead they were smaller and instead of bogies they only had 2 wheels at the front and 2 wheels at the back
I would’ve covered those, but we still haven’t discovered if they were scratch built or from a certain brand. So there’s not much point.
They’re the old coaches, not Edwards coaches
@ChimpyWallah I just figured they were Edward's because he was the only one pulling them
@@BigBoy4014.CM1 Henry pulls them though
Its called an old fashioned branchline coaches its basically the orange one, because it is the orange one, the branchline coaches have different paints the other side is orange and the other is the one that you described.
Great Video!!
I've always had a soft spot for the Stroudley's.
1000th Like 🙂
I always liked the model era coaches. The CGI coaches are way too thin.
the cgi era just sucks in general
I had no idea there were so many different variations of the express coaches! I remember as a kid thinking there was a black variant as well as the green and red, but that might have been down to video quality, or maybe the way the green looks different against white as opposed to cream/beige.
Sometimes, in order to save money, they paint one side of the coaches with one set of colors and the other side with a different set of colors.
I always wondered if the series had continued I wonder if they would have introduced shipping containers as being one of the new common sites for freight trains on Sodor being transported on flatbeds
Love informative stuff like this! Keep up the great work as it shows a ton in what goes into the series
I never thought about the coach props until I read the video's title, then I was immediately interested.
This is such a great informative video, I love it!! Can’t wait to see more.
Would be really interested in possibly hearing about some of the sets? Young me would’ve killed to know how some things like the big glass roof station were made
I believe Emily's coaches we're also modified stroudley coaches but just given some modifications to look like a completely different type of coach
5:59 I didn’t know that Clarabel started out as a regular coach.
I know you briefly touched upon this, but I feel like I could further explain this topic. In Thomas and the Magic Railroad, new models of the express coaches were made. These were shorter versions with thicker black roofs and had cream top halves. In season 6 they added a yellow line down the middle of them and that design has since become the norm with them.
I explain in the beginning of the video that i only talk about the classic seasons of the show.
@@FlyingFishProductions season 6 is classic though.
I have a theory if the Orange Branch line coaches (having their last appearance in Edward's Exploit) were given a red paint and roof replacement as their reward for helping Edward getting his visiting passengers back home. I know Orange is my favorite color, and you know what? the Orange coaches could have appear more often as the Red branch line Coaches if Annie and Clarabel would have been Brown like later on in the Railway Series, so they would have remain Edward's Coaches while the Red branch line coaches were James', Percy's, Duck's, Oliver's, and other engines who used them.
I always wondered what Isle of Man style coaches with looked like on Sodor scaled up to standard gauge as I think they would fit on Sodor perfectly
as a kid I always wondered if the coaches from Edwards Exploit were Annie, Clarabelle and a third car, just hidden by camera tricks (meaning they just turned them around)
if im correct the old coaches are based on the GNR ‘Metropolitan’ carriage, no. 903
All of the Coaches are Southern Railway Equipment and Property of Thomas (LBSCR E2) and Edward (In my AU as well as some of the others AU's SECR D Class)
In the UK released Ladybird Books James and Edward are photographed pulling black and cream coaches, which I’ve never seen used anywhere else. Any info on those?
This other video I made should explain it, go to 2:34 if you'd like the direction explanation: czcams.com/video/hwFj6Z91Ul8/video.html
0:26 I think this counts as a mixed traffic train that Henry is pulling seeing as he's got two coaches as well as a goods van and Brakevan which was quite an uncommon site in both the UK and Australia but is however not unheard of in countries like Africa and Asia
It may be a parcels van, which was designated the same class as passenger coaches, but it may be a goods wagon. In the UK it was technically forbidden since 1889, but often seen on local services.
Those orange type coaches were ones that needed a boot lace to repair a leak after James roughly bumped them
you forgot about the old coaches, they were in a similar livery to the express coaches, while having white buffers
Like I said to others, we still don't know if they were built from a kit from a specific brand, or scratch built. Besides I mentioned them in a previous episode so I would just be repeating the same information twice.
1:49 I personally always preferred the cream and red express coaches to the cream and green
4:21 I do wonder whatever came of those orange stroudley coaches seeing as they were replaced by the red ones in season 3 onwards
F for the capital F
what where the red choaches for
What about Henrietta Tobys Coach
Unpopular opinion unrelated to the video whatsoever….
I like these model express coaches more than the ones in CGI. The CGI express coaches look too skinny.
Why not cover the old branch line coaches, I believe they had 2 sides, one orange and one the color we always see to fill in for other orange coaches
Because the brand they were made from hasn’t been discovered, or if they were scratch built instead and what parts they used so there’s wasn’t much point in covering them. Especially since I talked about the 2 sides being flipped around in a video from a few weeks ago.
I really didn't like how the CGI series made the express coaches incredibly thin with no corridors as it makes the interior looks very unrealistic and makes me think that the passengers have to climb over the seats just to get to the buffet coach
The toy coaches are pretty basic reskins of other existing coaches
You forgot the old coaches from season 1!
Like I said to others, we still don't know if they were built from a kit from a specific brand, or scratch built. Besides I mentioned them in a previous episode so I would just be repeating the same information twice.
Why don’t we make our own replicas of the coaches then
I’ll be doing that very soon.

SEASON 2, NOT SEASON 3!
0:25 oh yes Henry has both a brake coach and a brake van in this shot
