All footage of PC gameplay captured for this documentary was done using an AMD Radeon 6900xt Halo Infinite Limited Edition GPU, and an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor - providing a flawless presentation as I replayed each and every game in the Halo franchise. You can learn more using the link I've provided.
This is a full history of the Halo franchise. From Bungie's roots building Sci-fi themed shooters in their Chicago offices, to 343 Industries' newly released Season 2 for Halo Infinite.
Celebrate 20 years of one of the most iconic first person shooter series every created by learning how the series has evolved! Halo is a first person shooter series created by Jason Jones, Marcus Lehto, and a team of Bungie developers and published by Microsoft for their new Xbox console. The series got its start as a hybrid RTS game built from the mold of their fantasy RTS series, Myth - and evolved to completely dominate the video gaming scene with its rich storytelling, beautiful scenery, balanced gunplay mechanics, and its revolutionary multiplayer. Following the groundbreaking Halo: Combat Evolved, Bungie created several more entries to the series, including Halo 2, Halo 3, a standalone expansion called Halo 3 ODST, and a prequel entry called Halo Reach.
After Bungie's departure from the franchise, Microsoft created 343industries to carry on its legacy, resulting in Halo 4, Halo 5, and most recently Halo Infinite.
Join me as I detail each and every game, breaking down their development history, storyline, gameplay features, visuals, and their critical reception, all backed with each game's original soundtrack.

Even the smallest donations help me make these videos! (I record all of my own footage and need to purchase several old games for the footage)
This video was a tough one. Halo is not a series I'm quite as familiar with as past documentaries I've put together. In fact, some of these games I had played for the first time when recording. But thanks to some great archival work done by Bungie and some exhaustive interviews conducted by the likes of "VICE", I was able to piece together a complete breakdown of this series' history from start to finish. There's also a few easter eggs sprinkled in for diehard fans to discover, including some special cameo appearances from Halo Content Creator: LateNightGaming! Now sit back, grab a drink, and enjoy the ENTIRE History of Halo!

This video was a fun one to put together. So much of this series I got to experience for the first time (Halo wars 1 and 2 in particular were a lot of fun!)
As stated, this video was primarily recorded on an AMD PC with the halo infinite LE 6900xt gpu. Thank you AMD for hooking me up! Theres also footage of the original xbox releases to give you a better idea of what these classics used to look like.
I also want to thank EpicMusicTrailerUK for providing a fantastic opening piece to accompany the intro. And latenightgaming for providing many hidden easter eggs throughout the video ;)
    Enjoy!!
    Corrections:
-Arbiter in Halo Wars is not the same one from Halo 2/3. What I meant to say is Halo Wars gives players insight into what the Arbiter was doing prior to the Halo saga, as in the Arbiter position - not the character commonly referred to as the Arbiter.
-Halo Wars released in 2009 not 2003.
-In Halo 2, Chief and Johnson are being awarded for events that occur in one of the novels, not the destruction of Installation 004
-I keep getting some comments claiming that the ring in the title sequence is reversed. It is not. Though it apparently is an optical illusion for some people which I find interesting.
-343 Industries* not interactive. Said interactive once or twice by mistake

In your history video Nick930, you can almost feel what the guys at 343 are feeling with each decision they make. The Halo Wars series is, in my opinion, underrated and needs a third sequel to its great story, plus I love RTS games, Red Team and the Spirit of Fire crew. Campaign DLC for free.

I’m in my mid thirties now and in the last few years I got into online gaming. Over the course of that time, I’ve made a bunch of friends and reconnected with others via headsets and controllers. It’s absolutely incredible.
If you would have told me that online gaming was going to look like this when I was getting extra credit in my tech class for making RJ45 cables to use for the Halo CE LAN party my mom graciously let me throw in my garage (often supplying gringo tacos and brownies), I would have cackled at how absurd the future sounded.
It was really a shock to play an FPS 20ish years later when I jumped into CoDWW2 and shortly after buying that, MW2019. You kids shredded the dude who dominated the garage… lmao! I’m never at the top of the leader board anymore but the fun is just as real as it was in Blood Gulch!

EXCELLENT DOCUMENTARY @Nick930. Everytime I watch one of your documentaries, it makes me wanna replay an entire series. For example, earlier this year I watched your documentaries on Splinter Cell and Metal Gear. I am currently replaying the entire Splinter Cell then move onto Metal Gear. I am likely to revisit a replay of HALO 😁

Remember playing Halo CE co-op through the night when it first came out all those years ago. I played all the X-Box and 360 games again recently and my favourites are 1, ODST and Reach, I think 2 has the better storyline but 3 is more enjoyable mechanically, apart from anything to do with the Cortana story, which is handled so insultingly poorly. Halo 4 is extremely exciting but very lonely... your marines all get killed off so quickly and in some instances just disappear. Overall, I guess 1 and ODST are my faves. ODST has the best music, and I like wandering about the city at night.

I remember this releasing my freshman year in college and hearing there was a game that guys were playing in the dorm able to link 4 consoles and house 16 total players, just the idea to me I recall being mindblowing. We had a waiting list for open spots for people to jump in, and people would skip entire days' worth of classes, either so they wouldn't lose their spot, or because the CTF matches would run so long., the longest I remember lasting 8 hours from night to dawn. Our RA's at one point gave up telling us all to stop yelling between rooms. I also remember my GPA that year being less than admirable, but I have never had more fun playing any console game or multiplayer.

Well we couldnt get the sound working on Mac so we slapped together the most epic and iconic theme ever written for any video game up there with LOTR and Star Wars.

Another great video from you. I follow several video game reviewers who each have their own style and approach. You cover the more technical aspects and background of the development. Others cover more of the gameplay and story perspective. Your videos are well structured and have their own energy. I watch a lot of lengthy reviews, retrospectives and documentaries, but in saying that it takes talent to sustain a video for that long. Although it has its flaws at times I love the Halo franchise and remember the impact that it had on me the first time i played it. I've played all the games, (except for Infinite). Love the lore, the weapons, the style, the music and the gameplay.

I live in Chicago, thought that building looked familiar and when you mentioned Halsted, lmao Im like 12 blocks west of that street...I don't blame Bungie for calling the place a craphole, most buildings in Chicago are stuck in an old era

Just wanted to say how much I love your content. It's hard to find CZcamsrs who match the old G4 documentaries, but you and Gvmers are nailing it.
Anytime I want to go back to one of my classic video game series like Halo, Far Cry, or CoD, I always watch your retrospectives while they install. Always gets me perfectly hyped for the game just through appreciation for how much work has gone into the series and how much it's evolved over the years.
Keep up the good work. Love your stuff.

Halo is without a doubt, one of gaming's most legendary, essential and influential franchises. Of course, nostalgia is a huge part of it. I remember playing Halo Combat Evolved for the very first time and being absolutely blown away by what I had experienced. There were many unforgettable memories along the way. The Halo theme song is so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes even today. This video was obviously a labor of love and passion. A lot of hard work went into making it and clearly shows in the execution. Thanks once again for another wonderful video! Your continued hard work and dedication deserve to be commended! I really appreciate it!
