It's a sad state of affairs when one of the richest countries in the world has its citizens pull their own teeth because they can't get an appointment.

@@pf844with our huge wages, and the cheapness of everything in the UK. I wonder why pay can't afford to pay to see the dentist.

Some people are going to Poland where they can get excellent dental treatment at a fraction of the price.

No it's just the Tories that caused that.

Going to the dentist is too expensive .
Being a dentist is like having a licence to print money. Just more F-in greed

Dentists were going private 15 years ago. It's been hard to get an NHS dentist for 5 years. Tories are to blame.

This might be the few things that Brexit can't be blamed for... UK dentists have always been terrible and too many people in Britain don't know how to take care of their teeth.

@@politicalx6151 I'm not talking waiting times, just quality. British teeth are an international joke, there's a reason for that and it goes back generations.

No, it was started with the pay settlement for NHS work brought about by Blair.

The real reason for this understaffing from austerity: the government has slashed funding for NHS dental services by 8% in real terms since 2010. In 2013, David Cameron placed a hard cap on the number of trainee dental places his government would fund (the cap was lifted briefly in 2020-21, but was reimposed in 2022 and remains in place despite the current crisis).

Lets be realistic, the Brits have never had great teeth. This crisis is not going to change that fact.

Well it’s taking back from being able to see a dentist to pulling your own teeth out. Just a step away from getting the barber to do it

Brexit didnt help in the recruitment of qualified EU dentists. Hence nowadays the population is suffering due to the shortage of qualified professionals and the lack of public funding. So many private dental practices will be grateful to the current government for such policy (Minute 2:29)
