How to wash pillows in washer
What's the best way to keep your pillows clean and white? Use the washing machine! I use a top loader but any washing machine should work.
First, every pillow is different, depending on what they’re made of. So shredded memory foam, molded foam, down, feathers and other materials are going to have varying washing directions so first consult the tag or website to see if your pillow is machine washable.
I mean I’ve seen dry clean only pillows and so we don’t want to ruin any.
But barring that, here’s what to do:
First, how to wash your pillows
If your pillow is washable, wash on the gentle cycle with warm water. Most of my pillows say wash cold but I like to use warm.
Add Oxyclean to your usual detergent. Set it on the longest wash cycle. You may need to do two cycles to get the yellowing out. And the dirt on pillows can be stubborn!
    Do an extra rinse cycle.
Then, use the setting that gets the most water out.
    GETTING PILLOWS FLUFFY AGAIN
My tip for getting them fluffy again is not to hang dry. That’s why they’re lumpy. Use your dryer.
You can use a very low heat setting, or if you’re worried or the pillow won’t take heat, use air dry or air fluff. It will take a long time, but the spinning and air will still take less time than air drying and it won’t get lumpy.
You can use dryer balls or tennis balls and that breaks up the lumps as they dry.
It will take multiple dry cycles (especially on air fluff) but it will dry eventually.
If you don’t have a dryer take down your pillow every so often and shake and fluff it, then rehang. Moving around the fluff inside will also help get it all dried out. It needs to be completely dry or you get mold and nobody wants a moldy pillow.
Some pillows have adjustable filling, so if you line dry I can just reach in and pull apart the wool filling/fluff it up should it feel lumpy.
We love the Coop pillows. Their pillow comes with extra ½ pound of fluff so if you ever need to you can refill or refresh the foam. They’re well made and fully adjustable, which means you can add or take out the fill so your pillow is the height you want. ‘
Really quick, the Eden is their softest pillow. The Original is a medium firm pillow. And they each have a 5 year warranty so you’re not going be be buying a new pillow every 6 months or so. Totally worth the cost.
And if you don’t have a dryer you can always wash your pillows at a laundromat. They have those large ones that can fit more pillows inside.
Now if you have any pee or sweat stains on your pillow, treat that separately. It’s the same way you clean a mattress with pee. We’ll put a link to that video in the description if you want to check it out. We’ve helped hundreds of people save their mattresses with this video. It really works!
Once you’re done with whatever method you use, get waterproof pillow protectors. Then you hardly ever have to wash your pillows, you just wash the cover with your sheets and pillowcases each week. Much easier.

traditionally, in India, we beat the washed and dried pillows with a stick, placing the pillows on a wooden surface and moving from one edge to the other end, multiple beatings helps to fluff up the pillows. Of course, we are blessed with a lot of sun, and can dry them up real well before the fluffing by beating. Thanks for the tip. another cautionary practice is to put two pillows at one go, so that the machine balances well.

hi! chem student here. u should use either baking soda or vinegar, but not both at the same time. baking soda is acidic, and vinegar is basic, so when u mixed up it basically just forms water plus some residuals cause they neutralize each other. They act much better seppartly c:

    • @LWRC

@@a.d.723 Most agitator washers have different cycles so you shouldn't have to worry anoud the agitator destroying your pillow or your pillow ruining your washer. Keep in mind in the wash cycle, there is also water in the tank so the agitator will not beat up your pillow too much. Try gentle cycle or regular cycle if heavy duty cycle is too much for your pillows.

I have washed a sleeping bag in a washing machine with a agitator and it ripped it pretty badly on the bedding setting.
Polyfill all through my laundry room when I pulled out the fabric.
I still occasionally find a little fluff in weird corners from that.
But at least I'm glad I did my cheap sleeping bag first as a test before putting in any other beddings.

You can either poke holes in it so you can get the air to escape, or use something to weight it down. Lysol laundry sanitizer actually weights down pillows and comforters. I'm not sure why, but when I use it it help, when I don't, it floats. Or you can just use your muscles and beat it in lol. I've done all of these, they all work. Just be careful if you're cutting holes, you have to do it in the right place so it doesn't further rip open.

Hi, do you know the brand name of your pillow? If so you can reach out to them or check their website for care instructions. But otherwise, you can do this method by hand, ideally you have a vacuum (much better) czcams.com/video/N1PnYe_NB5c/video.html
Then use a waterproof pillow protector to extend the life of your pillow. I know they can be loved, so I think it's worth the extra money to help them last longer.
Our favorite pillow protector is from Coop - www.cleanfreakandgermaphobe.com/coop because it's soft and doesn't make any sound, plus it's like their mattress protector which we've tested (same material) and use ourselves. It works really well.

You can do more than one at a time. I don't know how big your washing machine or size of pillow but I would only do 2 at once in mine.

Some people just don't care for sanitizing. Or think that washing something also sanitizes it, which it doesn't. Laundry detergent isn't a sanitizer

question, after washing 2 pillows and the spin cycle started it sounded like space x launching a rocket in my laundry room and the machine started coming alive. i did two to provide counter balance during the spin but it didnt help.. its a top load washer. any ideas, tips?

    • @mrkevinhaynes
      @mrkevinhaynes Před 2 lety +2

You may never get a reply. I have the same problem. Maybe replace the pillow and get a high quality cover so the pillow can be used without washing for a long time. Also what I thought of...next time I wash pillows I'll stop just before the spin, put my pillow in the clean bathtub and force as much of that heavy water out manually before I put the pillow/pillows back in the wash to spin.

    • @Christine-gd3vw
      @Christine-gd3vw Před 2 lety +3

You just need to rearrange the pillows to get the machine back in balance. I NEVER wash 1 by itself - that always causes my washer to be off balance during the spin cycle. I also have the problem when doing rugs - I just stop it and redistribute the weight evenly around the tub.
