If your pillows have yellowed since you bought them, it's probably time to give them a good washing! It is actually recommended that you wash your pillows at least twice a year. This process will restore your pillows to their former glory, plus it's good for your personal hygiene! - Jak na to + styl
That's the lazy approach... what I do is put it on the shower floor, soak it with water really well, drop lots of machine wash detergent on it and then merengue dance on it for about 15 minutes. Flip it on it's other side, and repeat merengue dance on it. To rinse, just meringue dance on it while water falls on it.
Francisco Perez omg that made me lol 😂
This is a great refresher video for me as I used it the first time and it's been a minute since I've done the pills again so I just needed a review and this was so helpful for me as I was getting ready to wash the pillows yet again not as confident about washing pillows but as I do it more more I feel like I'll get a better hang of it and feel more confident that I'm not going to mess it up
I am a 30 year old man watching a middle-aged woman give me washing advice.
Me too, lol
Me too, im a 30 year old man, gotta keep my house looking good :)
I can beat that, I'm 22 lol
I'm 15
What's your point? Whether your 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, your never too young or too old to learn something. Unless you already know everything and at 30 years old you don't know SHIT
Thank you for showing us! And putting the ingredients after! That’s so helpful!
I have thrown away so many pillows over the years because I wasn't aware they could be washed. This is very helpful!
Thank you and this really WORKS! love the way my pillows came out so clean and smelling fresh I will also will be using this on my towels also the tennis balls in the dryer my pillows came out fluffy thank you so much for sharing this but the only thing I added was"Simple Green"for the blood stains
Jillee,
Thank you so much for doing your due diligence and sharing it with us. I was unsure but now I’m a believer!!
Had to improvise with the dish detergent because I didn’t have any. I used:
1 cup borax
1 cup bleach
1cup powder detergent (homemade)
1/2 cup baking soda
1 dishwasher pod (finish brand)
They came out beautiful!!
Lastly, I used 2 wool dryer balls and used several drops of my favorite essential oils on each ball and dried pillows on low heat.
holy cow, 13000000 views. a lot of people have got the yellow pillow Disease.
"Our body is trying to control its temperature to be a comfortable temperature" my body is trying to drown me in my own sweat
I didn't actually believe this could work, but thought it worth a try. First soaked pillows in boiling water - that alone got a lot of the brown out. Then put in front loader, added half the given amounts of laundry soap, borax and dishwasher detergent (dissolved in water), without any bleach. I figured I could bleach them afterwards if necessary. Put the machine on hottest cotton cycle, with extra rinse. Poured the concoction in the dispenser. Voila - beautifully white pillows. But without a tumble dryer, can't get them nicely fluffed up.
I'd try this on sheets before pillows, bet it works great!
I’m 34 .... this is the best video I have seen... I just could never get them white!! Thanks for the video 😘love it
You shouldn't use bleach because it will damage foam and down, 1/2 cup Oxi Clean powder or Borax works great because it's safe and low sudsing. You can bleach pillow protectors though. Use an extra rinse and a high speed spin to remove soap and water, if you don't have those options on your washer then wrap the pillow in a clean towel and squeeze any remaining water out before throwing them in the dryer.
Borax is definitely NOT safe
Wheres the money lebowski?!
Bleach definitely will degrade memory foam, heads up. Drying them on high heat will sanitize them and kill dust mites.
Borax, like bleach, is safe when used as directed on product label
Awesome update and thank you for sharing and have a blessed day
Worked!!Thank you soooo much
Thanks for the tip, I will have to try it out
I have an old pair of tennis shoes (they've been washed) I put into tube socks and use to fluff my pillows. I am concerned though about using bleach. Pillow manufacturers say not to because it breaks down the filling and is deadly for down. I use an Oxygen cleaner & Borax along with a half cube of dishwasher soap when I wash mine. I wash them twice and rinse twice the second time around. Works beautifully! Also, do NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets on your pillows. It leaves a residue which when your body sweats on your pillows is almost impossible to get out.
hi my lovely great video :D you said about letting the solution mix together in the machine for a little while before you pop your pillows in, I have a front load washer I just wanted 2 know how would I do this or if it was completely nessicery for a front load? xxx brilliant videos new subscriber xxx
I would dissolve everything in a jar, then add to washer.
Bleach will rot fibers so it might get things "white" (the stain is still there, just the colour of it has been bleached out) but in time holes will appear in the fabric, so Miltons sterilising fluid does the same thing with rotting the fibers.
Milton sterilising fluid is Sodium Hypochlorite 1% + Sodium Chloride (salt) 16.5%; Bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite 3.5% - in other words just a stronger solution.
The heat from the clothes dryer will kill dust mites and most of the stuff you'd be worried about in a pillow. Unless they're moldy or mildewed, you can skip the bleach.
@Mike Studmuffin Unless Oprah's buying my pillows, I'm washing mine and get a good 5-10 years out of quality ones 😂😂
Thank-you for the great advice!
What do you do for the newer washers that say to add your "ingredients" in the ingredient drawer? My newer machine, has you load you laundry, shut the door, and it fills and adds the soap on its own. The door also locks. So how would I "fill a 1/3 of water, load my ingredients and let it agitate"? Ideas on how to apply this method with my kind of machine?
place it on a plastic cup and pop it inside
Dissolve the powder in a pot hot water, then once the washer has filled and starts its cycle, hit the "pause"/add garment button so it unlocks, and add the pot of detergents. Close it back up and hit "play"/start button. Just wait until the washer has already added the water it's going to, if I add water at the very beginning, my washer will sense it and drain it out 🙄.
Thank you for this!!
I wanted to see the results!
I use this recipe for all my synthetic pillows and it works great, its just my down pillows float and wont stay in the water, so makes it kinda hard
I mentioned on your other post, because it happened to a down pillow of mine, pause the cycle and push it down in the water so it has time to soak up the water instead of floating. It may take a few minutes. Only use the delicate or gentle cycle. The high thread count to keep the feathers in also makes the pillow not as absorbent. They also take longer to dry (and you want them really dry or they'll smell like a wet dirty duck), so do invest in some zipping pillow covers so that you don't have to wash the down pillows as often. You can just freshen them in between washes by putting them in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes with a couple of tennis balls and a dryer sheet. That makes them smell nice, and the heat will kill dust mites if allergies are a problem for you.
What if you have a front loading washing mashing? I can’t fill it with water first...
How do tennis balls help? Is there any other laundry I should be adding the balls too? Towels?
What can I replace the bleach with? Also, how can I eliminate those yellow stains on my mattress?
I also added oxyclean. It works really well on whites.
This will not work for me since i have a front loader. Maybe I could add the ingredients to the detergent tray?
I don't think all that powder will dissolve in a low water washer, maybe dissolve it in a pot of hot water, then add it to the washer once the cycle has started. I have a top loading one, but it is also HE, and that's how I trick it. It doesn't dissolve powdered detergents well at all.
European washing machines generally don't open from the top and can not be filled 3/4 with water prior to turning it on tho..
+McShifty033, is there a soak option on your front loading machine? You may try that, or soaking in the bathtub or wash tub works just as well.
Get yourself a plastic basin. Your local department store will surely have them.
hi. does it also apply to tencel fiber pillows?
Your information sounds great but what do you do in the case of a front loading machine? You cannot add the solutions you mentioned and allow them to agitate/ mix together prior to adding the pillow.
I have an HE washer, and I dissolve the powders in hot water, then pour it into the detergent cup as the washer's filling. It normally only wants liquid detergent, but I can trick it. I don't know if it works on all washers, but the computer on mine can't tell, and I can get to the detergent cup while it's filling, I know some don't like that. I guess you could also pour the dissolved detergent water onto the pillows before you start the cycle? But also some of those will sense water in there and drain before it starts the cycle. Not always a fan of the robotic washers deciding what I can and can't do with my laundry 😂😂
How would you covert this recipe for front loaders?? I also have soft water.
Just sprinkle it straight in? I just did mine today and it comes out just fine.
Did you adjust the measurements for your front loader?
@@kimandrews2693 I didn't bother the measurements, I just pour a generous amount in , maybe a laundry cup full and the pillow came out alright, no sticky and stuff.
what is the Miracle whitening solution???
And how come to mention detergent three times??
Confusing :(
i have a really old feather pillow soaking right now hoping that it works
how do you wash the stuffing from the pillows? i had some old couch pillows and i took out the stuffing to make bedroom pillows. i want to wash the stuffing before i make new pillows so how do i wash and dry the stuffing
Jennifer Guecho Maybe you could put the stuffing in some of those lingerie bags to wash it. That's what I'd do if I needed to.
Jilliee, I am new to your video's, YAY for me...anyway do you have any solutions or you tubes on how to wash Down or Feather Pillows...I hate throwing them away because they are so expensive...
You have to pause the washer and press them down into the water, so that gives them time to soak up the water, then they won't float to the top. Also only use the gentle or delicate cycle, so the covers don't tear. They also take about 2 hours to dry, but you want them really dry or they'll smell like dirty ducks. So I got nice pillow covers for mine in addition to my pillowcases and keep those really clean, so I only have to wash the pillows every 6 months or so. You can freshen and fluff down pillows in between washing by putting them in the dryer on high for 10 minutes with a dryer sheet and a couple of tennis balls. The heat kills dust mites, and the tennis balls really fluff them and make them feel like new!
GREATT!!!! :) CAN YOU DO YELLOW TEETH NEXT??!? :) :) :)
I agree with other's, that have commented, that washing pillows in a plastic bin, would be much better. Pillow's lose there shape in a washer! Borax, lemon juice, vinegar and drying in the SUN, produces a better sanitized and whiter pillows. Bleach breaks down the fibers...... JMHO!
I agree. Bleach and hard water even makes white fabric turn yellow. Best to leave it out.
They come out white, but the foam always separates. They're never the same after washing.
What make & model of washing machine is she using?? I’m needing a new one and want one I can add water and clothes too separately and do long soaks!
I read article before. It said that bleach shouldnt use it with hot water! no?
I don't have a top loader. How can you do this with a front loader?
Any ideas on how to adjust this for a front loader? Thanks in advance for any response it might get=)
+Estio I just let my LG Tromm do it's job. They use so little water to begin with and they fill based on the load size.
This is why people used to use pillow covers under pillow cases. Then expensive pillows didn't have to be replaced! Nowadays you can wash pillows as most are not down. But it still makes sense to use pillow covers easier to wash and cheaper than pillows. JR
How about front load machines. Seems like a lot of soap for a machine. Are you sure it will not foam over?
+Scott Knudson very true !! what in the heck wouldn't come out white after all that soap??....lol...
Do the cleansers have to be powdered? I only have liquid detergent.
I have a better way after years of trying to wash and dry pillows, especially if you have a front loader:
1. Take a knife or scissors and remove the pillow fabric shell, throw it away.
2. Keep the padding and buy a nice pillow protector with a zipper.
3. Put padding into pillow protector.
4. Take the padding out and wash the pillow protectors as needed.
now that's clever dude
Even if we throw away the covering of the pillow, doesn't sweat and other nasty fluids get into the padding?
can never go wrong with baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish detergent and a scrubbing brush
What if you have a front load machine?
Thank you so muh for the video, but what is 'borax'? Can i find any substitute for it, because i dont live in the US..
Borax is the brand name for sodium borate, it's a laundry booster, it's also in dishwasher powder. You can also try washing soda, in the US, Arm and Hammer makes it, but it's also called sodium carbonate or soda ash. Most powdered detergents already have these ingredients in them, but you can add extra to boost the whitening and soften the water, so your detergent works better. The dishwasher powder she puts in there usually has washing soda in it too, most commercial ones do. Actually a cheap homemade dishwasher powder is mixing borax with washing soda. They both work by making detergents and soaps able to do their job of breaking up dirt and grease and suspending it in water to be washed away better.
Could you show before and after photos?
yes, i'd like to see how this is done 'in action' and not just talk.
Does it work on Down? or feathers pillows
will be hard for me to do. once my washer closes it locks. won't be able to open it.
There's usually a pause or add garment button that unlocks it once the cycle has started. That's the top loader ones, not sure about front loaders, but I'm sure there's a way to trick them too.
this would be a really good process but most European washing machines are front loaders and you cant really stop and start between turning it on and washing? So i am wondering if you could mix the whole kit into a bowl of hot water and then add it to the front loader and then stick those horrible pillows in..wonder if that would work?
What if my pillow are bamboo pillows, if that makes a difference
nice ....... very good
What about front load machines?
It`s simple, You can`t
You should be fine as long as the pillow isn't too heavy for the machine to become unbalanced and unable to spin
Well, Maybe if it`s a very light hollow fibre type and you have a very large drum, But a jug of bleach and a heavy pillow will put a real strain on the seals and bearings
i RECENTLY BOUGHT A PILLOW THAT--TO MY SURPRISE, SAYS IT CAN BE WASHED IN A DOMESTIC WASHING MACHINE, AND THE SYMBOL SHOWS A FRONT LOADER. USUALLY, THEY RECOMMEND A LAUNDERETTE ONE.
I have a front loading machine. I followed her instructions and I pushed the pause button when I wanted to soak. I was so stoked that it worked! now (maybe a year or so later) I need to do it again but the cascade turned into a brick! :-(. I have to wait to get some more tomorrow. I like the comment to use vinegar or lemon juice instead of bleach. I'm concerned for my septic regarding bleach. not sure why but I was told when I moved here (first time I've had a septic) not to use bleach. I know you wrote 3 years ago but maybe you too have to clean your pillow again?
So I have a front load washing machine so how would I go about putting the powders in the washing machine with the pillows and the bleach do I just put it in the top dispenser like I normally would. Please help, I really need to clean my husband's pillow!
Odd thing is his pillow is yellower than the pillow protector 🤔
You’d have to load the remaining powders and bleach in the washing tub with the pillows
Is that a feather pillow?
no after pic?
I wouldn't think this would work for side-loading washing machines.
my down pillows are $400 each. i cant just toss them and buy new ones every year. need something to get that yellow out.
You can use Restoration for Delicates and Vintage Linens along with good bleach, like the lemon-scented Clorox bleach. You can use the Nellie washing detergent, too. You know, the water over there, I've found out, is not properly treated. That's the kind of strategy being used over there to destroy people. You need the atmospheric water generator (air to water maker) that can generate liquid water from the humidity in the air. Hiding this for so long is the other strategy. This will get your laundry cleaner. You also need the Dyson humidifiers and air multipliers, UV disinfection robots, and medical grade air purifiers to have good air, and not go outside so much. Bad air is the other strategy.
i have a map of the world in my pillow and its yellow
thats the chinese belt and road project taking over the world
The yellow in the pillows may contain a little sweat but it is really spit or drool which ever works for you.
will this work on feather pillows?
+David Fletcher Yes!
You rock.
thanks
Could somebody in the UK or on the internet please translate into UK products. And Singapore brand names. Thanks.
In Singapore use (vanish o2)
Thanks mom
Why is it that even with a pillow cover my pillow is yellow
Umm my problem is blood problem I always have bloody nose I have a sickness or something so how to remove blood
Try hydrogen peroxide... it works best on fresh stains so it might not get out very old ones, but for the future... maybe do a google search too cuz I’ve only tried it a few times...
The hot water and bleach should kill the dust mites too. Have you EVER seen them in microscopic pictures?!?!?!? ewwwwww .... LOL
yes but we didnt have them we would neck deep in dead skin cells
I have one of those things
Isn't it easier to use pillow covers to keep them from getting dirty?
Damn she read my mind
Will this solution work getting the blood stains out of my clothes?
Wash in cold water for blood stains. Hot water will set the blood into the fabric.
+Emit Poe Hydrogen Peroxide is the best stain remover for blood!
+Emit Poe Regular laundry detergent should be pretty good at that. But you might want to hide the body first. ;-)
+Emit Poe .... Hi emit poe ... Domestos, if you can get it in your location
No, this one is a serial killer don't help th- skajgbsaiuh *dead*
should have shown your finished job! did not work for me. followed your directions. i had two down pillows.
Where is the actual of the pillows washing even an "after" would've suffice me
@Point Venus 😂😂😂thanks
Was saying I thought she was gonna show us the before n after. Wash hers and show us the end result
Hydrogen peroxide gets blood stains out ....even dried ones. You will need to soak the dried ones.
Thanks, new white mom!
First of all, you DO NOT ADD DISHWASHING POWDER onside a HE washer. My husband I brought alot back to Lowe's because people werent using the right Detergents! !!
When high efficiency washers say use HE DETERGENTS. That's what you use..NO SUBSTITUTES!!
CountryGirl4722 Leghorn chickens are you paid by HE ?? Take your obnoxious voice elsewhere
@@juliatruscott5504 HE isn't a brand, it stands for high efficiency 😂
You can get HE detergents in many different brands
You realize you're not that young when you find amusing house cleaning and washing videos. 😂
the solution is to have a washing machine big enought to get 2 pilows in
Laundromats have big washers if yours isn't. Worth a few quarters to have clean pillows, they only need to be washed every 4-6 months if you keep your pillowcases clean.
they take ages to dry if u don't have a tumble dryer lol......
Good grief no one has had a top loading washing machine in UK since the 50's... lol
+kate baker I have and it's and LG less than 8 years old.
+kate baker Well, she's from the US and we have top loaders here.
+Mary Mathewson Eikey +kate bakerBuy a Maytag washer. Mine's a top-loader and I have had it for 15 years. Still works like new. I wash my pillows with Tide and let them dry in the delicate dry cycle.
It's 2017 and I have a brand new top loading washing machine.....
WHY --WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE?
Ruined one of my pillows (not sure why only one because I washed 2) - did NOT get the stains out and there is no way it wasn't bad for the machines - the pillows were extremely heavy when wet. Don't waste your time, pillows or washing machine health..
My husband has been around washers. ..esp HE Washers..if you use anything but HE Detergent. You Will eventually run into problems. Homemade detergents that use Fels Naptha, Zote ect..isnt good to use in HE washers, in a Traditional washer its ok. Traditional and HE washers drain Different. Some of these people need to start doing researching. Ask your Manufacturer or the Appliances Specialist before doing these things. I DON'T always go by what these people say on youtube. Tbe only thing I make of my own, is homemade Liquid Dish Detergent. I. Going to Stick to using HE Detergents regardless how much I got to pay.
+CountryGirl4722 Leghorn chickens What's a HE washer.
wow. is this science?

wear crappy clothes if you pull them out to turn them over, one splash of bleach water, you're gonna be mad.
Love you but get to the point ...
