    • @sidwhiting665
      @sidwhiting665 Pƙed rokem +1

      I don't think there should be, and the reason why is this: the companies who extend the credit do so willingly, knowing there's a decent chance they'll never get paid but they choose to do it anyway. The only people who lose out are the creditors. The simple fix is don't extend credit to someone who declares bankruptcy. But if lenders want to be stupid, they should be allowed to be stupid and reap the results.
      .
      Even though bankruptcies fall off the credit report 7 years after they discharge, you can still require someone to answer truthfully if they have ever filed bankruptcy. If they lie, that would be perfect grounds to deny credit. You can research court records fairly easily and find if someone has ever filed, even if it's off their credit report.

    This call was wasted effort. This guy knows he's going to get laid off, but hasn't started looking for another job. His wife doesn't work but is capable of working. They're in a bad situation with $38,000 in credit card debt on a $35,000 household income, and a mortgage that cost $23K/year. They can't cut up their credit cards because they need them to buy food. They're looking for an easy way out and Ramsey advice isn't it, but even bankruptcy wouldn't fix this. The only way out is to increase income. I can only assume they got the mortgage and the credit card limits while the wife was still working, then she stopped and they just thought they could somehow make it work. I understand their son's frustration.

    The wife is lazy. Nursing is the most flexible job and the nursing job vacancies are very critical. She can apply as a case manager and work from home, or telephonic nurse, or outpatient (she can earn $85,000/year or more with that). There are sooo many nursing jobs, and 55 is NOT OLD at all! I am 50 and I am planning to retire after 20-25 years. I have plenty of co workers that still work in their 70's. They need to change their mind set and work harder.

    I get what the caller said about his wife's issues. You can't just go get disability because your knees hurt, but having mobility issues *because* your knees hurt disqualifies you for a lot of jobs including low-level jobs like working at the Dollar Store. I'm in the same boat, but I'm lucky enough to have a job in front of the computer all day. If the caller's wife was a nurse, something like tele-nursing could be perfect for her.
