Why didn't these two tell the caller to WAIT a couple of years to see if his girlfriend was serious about working hard? She should be able to pay off $100K in a year. (In fact, Dave never tells people to wait / pause a couple of years on getting married and I've always wondered why.)

She needs to pay that student debt off before you sign the marriage certificate. If that takes her so long that you want to break up and find another girlfriend, that is OK as well. Don't be a SIMP to this veterinarian that is so far into debt that she needs captain saveaho to rescue her from her own decisions. You don't want to start a marriage this far into the negatives that it is very easy to blame each other and be at each other's throats and have a very high high chance of divorce. Don't set your self up for failure. A hot chic that works as a cashier with no debt is better than this.

It's not fair to marry someone with a low-paying profession he loves and then resent him because you're not vacationing in Europe every other year."
I never wanted kids, but people routinely think the above is a dreadful outlook.
