My ex pulled this on me , she went to CRNA school used me to help her get through CRNA school. Then left me right after graduating. I learned my lesson

Perhaps she thought that Dave Ramsey would bend his principles because she was going to study Nursing. Well, Nursing is an excellent field, and you will never be out of work. However, her plan sucks. Big time. And I don't just mean the finances.

There is no cliff to jump but stairs to climb for a greater future. Invest 300k to make more than 200k a year is definitely a great financial decision. It is better than buying a house with 300k mortgage while you make 70k in income.

There are alot of single parents that quit studying and yet she will have the debt. There are alot of people that quit studying period.
IF EVERYTHING GOES PERFECT you are correct. But that's the thing with debt, debt is guaranteed, finishing studies is not. As DR says, he has met people over 30 years that quit college for all kinds of reasons.
If she takes a loan and quit it's a huge set back.
If she takes a loan and stop working while studying, it's a huge pressure on her boyfriend (by the way, I think he is being used heavily)
If she takes a loan and finishes but wants to become a stay home mom, there is huge pressure on her boyfriend or worse her parents.
If she saves first or pays as she goes, all of these bad outcomes go away. Don't go into debt, DR is 100% correct, life happens and debt never cares for what happens to your life.

No. We just don’t feel pressure to legally sign on with another person. If you like each other stay together, if you don’t split up. The older generations stayed married because it was frowned upon to get a divorce, or the women didn’t have many options other than to stay, even when miserable. Now everyone has options so we don’t feel obligated to do anything. We love it!

Or the price of the degrees would go down. It's amazing how some good state colleges can get by on $10-$12K / year while other colleges need $80-$100K for the same thing.

In many European countries, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get into medical/law school.

I'm a nurse and I can tell you that a lot (not all) nurses are very unstable people. I do not think it is a good idea. It's a possibility that she may find the field more draining than she anticipated. It would stink if she was stuck in a job that's no longer a good fit with all of the debt.

@@josephburton3232 Depending on your lifestyle, whether or not you’re married, and what nursing (or additional) jobs you’re willing to take, it can be just a few years. CRNA school does NOT cost $300k. Saving the actual $100-150k it actually costs only requires the same intensity as some of these folks have paying off their debt-so it’s up to the nurse looking to go to CRNA school to determine how long that will take.

One function is that it protects a person who sacrifices professional development to raise children, maintain property, etc. In this case they're both doing things that they wouldn't have been doing if they couldn't depend on each other. The bf is making a tremendous sacrifice to give her a safety net while she stops work to improve their future, but she can just walk out on him afterwards with no consequences.
There are also important things like inheritance, visitation rights, etc.
Imagine your SO of 20 years dying in the hospital and not being able to visit them. Or raising kids with them only to have them pass away and suddenly you're depending on their parents to support you.

Yeah, I am a woman, and I am appalled by her exploitation of her boyfriend. The least she could do is repay him with lifelong loyalty in a marriage union, since his investment is permanent and unrefundable. If her answer to marriage is a bunch of excuses, he needs to run. I would say the same if the genders were reversed.
As someone who has followed Dave for years now I can honestly say he’s helped me in so many ways. I’m 26, have a college degree paid for in cash, a car I own etc etc. With that being said, if everyone went to school following his rule of not taking out debt we’d have a shortage of engineers, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, lawyers, etc. I picked a cheap degree

Immediately after Dave says “I’m not going to tell any nurse anesthetist student to take out loans,” I would looooove for him to elaborate on how he expects those students to save up $300k for the degree. It makes no sense. Is it a little risky? Yes, but professionals have the lowest rate of default on student loans of any group, and she would be able to pay that off in 2-3 years (like Dave admitted), whereas saving up $300k on a nurse’s salary would be much much longer. Dave’s advice doesn’t really paint a workable picture for professional degree programs.

You also have to think if people weren’t taking out debt colleges would be forced to lower tuition to keep their enrollment up. Supply and demand works for college to.
College is so expensive because we can get loans for it. The government backs/creates theses loans, so even if the cost of tuition doubled overnight, we would still be able to get loans. If people stopped going into massive amounts of debt and went back to paying cash for class, the cost would decrease because either way, they'd need bodies to fill those seats. Supply and demand. Tuition will continue to increase because we will continue to pay at these prices. Oddly, it's the trades that have much better ratios. My plumber charged us almost $200 for a quick 30 min fix. If he even went to a trade school at all, he didn't pay tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for it. He also has a very secure job.

$300k seems a bit overpriced for CRNA school. I believe it can be done for around $100k. Employers will also help pay for it.

Young Lady, continue your program. You are young and have more than 30years to work after your program and with 200k income, you can do anything, take life insurance if anything happens to your, insurance will cover your loan. Education is a financial investment like anything else.
I want to go back and get my masters... So I'm joining the army national guard so I can achieve my dreams without the debt.
Let’s not pretend like that’s not a ton of work. You’re sacrificing your weekends and potentially your life, in exchange for our freedom and your tuition. You’re making a bigger sacrifice and working harder than most millennials and GenZs can even imagine.

Yeah I watched a CRNA Rhianna Ferial on CZcams explain how she was able to pay for school from the beginning of nursing to crna school. Her husband is financial advisor as well and flips houses... so you don't have to go into debt to get your dream job. She also did travel nursing as a critical care nurse and took the highest paying contracts. Just saying.
I really don't like how she wasn't forth coming initially. She wants help but doesn't give all the info. I Don't trust her.

I do agree with Dave on the risk of debt especially in these situations . But, he does need to come up with another plan for his professional degree callers. Because unless you have family money it’s very hard and limited to pay 100% out of pocket including living expenses as you will not be working much if at all. And I never heard this call before. But, what would he tell someone to do who is already halfway through the program and needed to take out student loans to finish? Dave has good advice but always tip toes around these calls with no realistic answers for DMD, MD/DO, PharmD, ARNP, etc…I know he always suggest to go work for a historial/clinic for them to pay for your school. But, that’s is unrealistic. Very few and far in between. No one is going to pay for that.

So how exactly are people supposed to get these degrees without going into debt? You can't do these programs part time while working during the day. So are these degrees and programs reserved for only the individuals coming from wealthy families who can cash flow the whole thing? At some point you just have to take a gamble and go for it. If you're good enough to be accepted into one of these programs then you have to believe that you are good enough to pass the test at the end.

It's definitely possible! Rhianna Ferial has some videos on this very topic. Neither her nor her husband inherited any money. If you want someone to advocate for taking out student loans, Dave Ramsey is the wrong channel to watch.
@@irawr256 She travel nursed? That's the answer? You're gonna tell a lady with a 6 year old kid to go travel nurse? Travel nursing is great if you don't have anything tying you to an area and allows you to jump around the country to follow lucrative contracts. Rhianna also has a husband helping support her and pay the bills. That stuff is fine but what about people going to med school to be an MD? There's no preliminary job you can work to save up money for MD school. You get your undergrad then apply to med school. You don't work as an almost doctor and save up money before going to med school.
I like a lot of Dave's advice on debt but he has a total one size fits all mindset that just doesn't apply to some situations. This is one of those situations.

I'm not sure what you're after here. This channel is meant to inspire and support folks who want to live life debt-free and pay cash for things rather than get into debt. That's what this channel is about. If you've ever heard of Dave Ramsey before this, you knew that coming in.
That said, I'm solely focusing on the CRNA school idea here for the following point:
Let's take your example of single mother with a 6 year old and works as a nurse and flip the situation. Let's say instead of the $150k (which is a more realistic higher price of CRNA school--$300k is bananas) being a loan she wants to take out, it's debt she already has. Would you tell her she can't get rid of that debt within a few years? That she couldn't pick up overtime or pick up shifts with crisis pay and multiple shift differentials to make that money? That she and her child couldn't live below their means for this short-term sacrifice?
So, with that mindset, why couldn't she just save that amount instead? Now she doesn't have to pay interest on the loans, nor does she have to live like a pauper once she does make the salary of a CRNA. She and her kid could be financially free.
Again, this point is to this video precisely. As far as med school, I could see taking out loans, but even then I'd rather see someone make a financial commitment or work and save or get scholarships before diving in to a huge pile of debt, especially since they may not complete the entire program, as we've seen many a time on this channel. To each their own, though. Just know Dave won't agree regardless.

If you're already playing house then the wedding just kind of feels like it's just putting on nice clothes and having a little pretend ceremony.
It's not actually symbolizing the combining of your lives other than legally (which often still changes the dynamic).
But honestly if you've already been playing house to this degree then you're better off just eloping. There's really no point in wasting money on a wedding when you've already combined everything except for your legal financial stakes.
If you listen closely, at the beginning, she said she MADE the commitment, how did she lie?

She was vague about it to a level that wasn't necessary. She's in school. Why would she just not say "I'm in school"?

Considering the median personal income is like 36K and the average household income is, what, just over 60? Most people can’t cash flow anything to do with medical schooling. That can be OK debt as long as they attack it immediately
I don’t understand how anyone who is not a trust fund baby can ever become something like a doctor or nurse anesthetist. Do we really want only rich children going into the medical professions?
