  • Achievement Hunter, Let's Play, and Rooster Teeth. Lately I've noticed that the changes they've made to their content is a bit... different than what I remember.
    Let's discuss.
I appreciate you guys still sticking around for this weird up and down.

What killed AH for me was all the new people they kept bringing in. That's like if youre favorite TV show swaps out all your favorite characters for new ones 6 seasons in and expects you to like them just as much.

I held onto AH as the last vestige of my viewership of RT but when Ryan departed I went with him. The OG gang was 50% gone and they were being replaced with people who never had their magic. In 2012-2013 when it was just Geoff, Gavin, Jack, Michael, Ryan and Ray it felt so small and humble it felt like a genuine group of friends playing games naturally and then uploading them. When Ray left it was a sad loss but it was ok the rest were still there but then Geoff left following his divorce and then Ryan left following his scandal and Jack, Gavin and Michael had dipped in interest so they were all practically gone. They’ve been replaced by people who share nothing of their magic and unfortunately that’s true of practically all of RT and its different branches…
Peak AH will always be a relic of my life and something that kept me happy in the darkest of times, best of luck to all the boys in whatever they pursue next (except Ryan he can go f*** himself in a prison cell).

It happened with Fiona, im going to call out the elephant in the room and give you the real reason Rooster Teeth/Lets play failed. Diversity hires. They were trying to become as woke as humanly possible and they brought in talent(less) that wasnt anywhere nearup to par with their current cast that lets play was dominating all these years. Fiona was unfunny, didnt fit with the group dynamic and everyone AND I MEAN EVERYONE vocalized their displeasure in her addition to the crew. They ignored this VERY IMPORTANT warning and proceeded down their woke path to destruction. The braindead fans will tell you views arent high on their videos because of their site but we all know damn well there isnt an 1/8 as many people subscribed to rooster teeth first as they want you to think. @@TheBadabing1000 I'd see that they were doing a video in a game that I loved, and I would start it and there would be Fiona whining, complaining and screaming the same things over and over, and I would just turn it off. Trevor annoys the crap out of me too. I was fine with Jeremy and Fredo. They both seemed to have a smooth transition. I think Matt was heavily under-utilized.

As bad as it sounds I Still love the old content that had Ryan Haywood as part of it. Yes what he did was terrible but there were so many moments that had been captured in time that I found so entertaining. He was one of the originals and to pretend he never existed just isn’t possible. I don’t like him as a person or human being but I liked the content and humor of the videos before.

Personally i think the problem is the fact they lost their chaotic nature which personally i blame CZcams for. Most of their videos started to get demonetized, and rather than censor the videos with sounds, they censored their personalities. Like each of the new members. Despite people's opinions i found them entertaining and was excited for them to join especially BK because they were all acting like themselves and were honestly funny.
Then its like when they were signed on as employees everyone just got toned back, it sounds like coworkers trying to be funny with each other instead of actual friends hanging out.

Part right, mostly RT via RWBY attracted a lot of Tumblr fans who were very aggressive in the community and demanded RT change its old ways to be way more progressive.
      This killed the edgy humor.

I disagree that we wouldn’t find the original crew entertaining “because we grew up”
I’ve completely stopped watching lets play and AH. But I’ve now started watching a lot of the podcasts that feature that same old crew like Fxxk face, Face jam, and annual pass (before BK replaced Geoff). They are extremely funny.
I’ve even started binging the first couple years of the AH Minecraft and GTA playlists. It’s still just as funny to me, now in my 30s, as it was in my early 20s.
A lot of people argue that the new crew’s comedy is the same as what the OG crew’s was “because the new crews comedy is almost entirely built on yelling and screaming. And that’s all Geoff, Gavin, Michael , Ryan, Jeff, Jeremy, and Ray would do.”
But that’s completely false. People gravitated to the original AH crew because they had a real organic way of making genuinely hilarious situational comedy.
The new crew doesn’t contrast with each other at all. Lindsay, Trevor, and Matt only ever worked well when they played the straight man or the butt of the original crew’s jokes. Now they are the dominantly featured “old guard” cast who steer the comedy. But they just aren’t good at playing that role. Trevor is way too goody goody, Lindsay is just not aware enough to thread a good narrative. And Matt just kinda doesn’t know what to do. He was funniest when he was defensive. But now he’s just resorted to yelling a lot like the rest of them.
And speaking of the rest of them.
BK and Kye are just loud and yell for almost ANY reason. BK doesn’t do anything original or bring anything new to the table. Kye is cool but she doesn’t understand comedy very well. Just like Matt.
And Joe still acts like an uncomfortable guest.
I personally believe that personality based channels should just die when the personalities “cast” have moved on.
Start a new thing. Call it something different. Because it certainly IS different.
I wouldn’t mind looking back fondly on Achievement Hunter as a channel that ended when It should’ve.
Instead of lamenting it’s life support cast and being told it’s not “for us anymore”. 🤷🏻
Just because we’ve gotten older doesn’t mean we’ve left CZcams. It’s not the Disney channel or Cartoon Network. We’re still here. Almost all of us. We still have our old AH merch. We’re still following the old cast on social media. They need to recognize that.

The issue is the podcasts. The reason they scream and yell now vs back then, is because back then they had things to talk about. They’d share stories with each other, say how their week was, whatever. But when the ah podcast started, all the talking points got moved to that, leaving the games nothing but a bunch of yelling.

Another huge issue is the cast, Barely anyone I see is neither a Ky or Joe fan, So instead of bringing back Jack, Geoff and Gavin they continue and expect fans to accept it... Bk, Joe and Ky do try and make videos entertaining but it's not the same as it once was, I'm not saying that AH should've never changed but the humour is definietly it feels very same-y with each video e.g. "thing x" happens someone points it out and it descends into chaos. I love the James & James joke between Gavin and Fredo but there's no Team Nice Dynamite or older in-jokes that carried on, it definitely feels like I'm watching "entertainers" rather than a group of friends it feels very safe and polished. But after Ray left, I remember kinda falling off of them and not keeping up with their videos as religously as I used to until I just stopped watching altogether, only watching a new video here or there. I had a bit of resurgence in 2018 where I started watching them again, but after the Ryan thing, I just stopped completely. I remember the older content. It was hilarious. Due to the chaotic/unscripted/uncensored nature, it was more natural and fun.
But, like you said, the cracks really started to form before Ray's departure. I could clearly tell Ray was burning out, (specifically with Minecraft) as the content seem to strain at that point as it seemed they were only doing Minecraft for the views at that point.
Reddit reared it's ugly head along with all of the political-correctness and a lot of what made the content good, became more withheld. I felt like I wasn't getting all what the creators could be.
What dealt a massive blow to RT for me was Shane's letter regarding RWBY. RVB was gone, I refused to watch RWBY after that, and the only thing left was AH. But that was stagnating from their losing interest and self censoring due to the climate and I couldn't take it anymore, so I dropped RT for good.

In 2012, AH was top. They consistently keep good content flow until 2015 when the biggest star, Ray, left. He was the Steve Perry of AH. Content picked up late 2016. We see Jeremy, the technical Ray replacement, step up with his own charms, quirks and hilarity that made the channel soar in 2017. Along with Jack & Michael. The good content stopped dead in mid 2018...it lost its luster and the crew saw that it was going to shit. 2019 was the biggest fall for me. Since that year, it has only gotten worse until its current status now: full of dull nobodies, bland games with bland care. You can see it in Michael's eyes. It has become another generic YT channel of the times. RIP AH (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017).

I started watching AH when Episode 3 of Minecraft came out. I was hooked. It was a golden era of CZcams content for them. I watched literally every video. Once Ray left, I started watching less. They started adding new people, and I watched even less. Once Geoff stepped away. I found pretty much no reason to watch anymore. Between the wokeness and the Ryan fiasco, I stopped watching all together. It really is unfortunate to watch my childhood just dissipate, but I suppose that’s how life goes. I truly believe that their need to conform to society brought them down. I don’t believe that “the kids growing up” is a fair argument. I started watching Achievement hunter at 16 years old. I’m 27 and I could easily go back and watch all of their original videos again and still find it hilarious. I still watch Ray, and he’s hilarious. I don’t know. I watched everything Achievement Hunter and Let's Play from 2008 then mid 2019 and realized by October 2019, I have just seen five videos and by spring 2020 there were only seven videos watched. My drop off was officially Ryan leaving since he was the only person I found entertaining and real not censored anymore. Rooster Teeth lost me entirely and haven't been back since, I don't think I grew past Rooster Teeth because I occasionally still go back and watch older stuff and it clicks with me. What happened IMO was RT/AH went from being the wild west and community based company to politically correct, censored and corporatized. I'll always have fond memories of Rooster Teeth, RWBY, Achievement Hunter, attending RTX 2016-2018 and more but it's not for me anymore. I have found the old spirit of AH in CallmeKevin, Graystillplays, LetsGameItOut and few others who are passionate about gaming and community more than appeasing corporate mandated guidelines.

I like the video but your speaking volume vs the volume of some of the videos made it so that I had to just babysit the volume meter the whole time. You speak quite well though but just err.. speak up I guess? Idk lol.
Edit: For me, it was the fact that they started reducing their content on youtube in favor of increasing traffic for their website. I could still deal with watching or listening to the chaos that they went through but the constant "hey, we have extra rounds of 'X' on the website! Come watch us over there!" Except when you did try to use the website, it would not work or the video wouldn't load properly or there would be too many ads just to watch maybe 5 minutes of content. Then when I go and watch their individual streams that they do as "just Matt" or "Just Ray" or "just Michael" or even streams that Matt, Jeremy, and Alfredo does with Chilled and Ze's Amongus Group or Jeremy, Matt, and Ray playing along side Chilled for other games with his friends, It all just feels more genuine than their content as AH (despite ray having left years ago.)
They've also kinda trapped themselves in their own content. GTA, Halo, Minecraft modded, and Gmod.Thats to say nothing of the dozens of different Podcasts/shows they have now. Any of their content that isn't from one of these games only pull in a fourth if even that of the views. Even then, some of the videos from one of said games doesn't always do well (in comparison). It really doesn't help that some of the stuff they're known for doing now are just being done _better_ or just earlier by other channels forcing AH to spread itself even thinner to try to get some of that action but by the time that those videos come out or by the time they do the recording for said videos, the trend has already died down. Idk. There are so many things that are contributing to their downward spiral so it isn't any 'one' thing.
Their audience is growing, their cast is being spread thin, their content is becoming stale from doing this for bout a decade, they arent really riding trends to try to keep themselves afloat or they do ride the trend, they're so late that it doesn't matter, and they've just trapped themselves in their own niche.
    (sorry for the rant lmao)

RoosterTeeth was eaten alive by exhaustion, by DEI (forced diversity and politics) and by the continuous scandals. I remember sticking around for a while after Ray left, but I began shifting away when I became more interested in other content and was otherwise occupied. In reflection, a corporate, clean-cut business atmosphere was the absolute wrong direction for the company. It was best when it was a small- to mid-level-business where the employees and talent were comfortable being themselves. Now it sounds like they have to be politically correct and censor themselves, which is the antithesis of their better dynamics.
    What a shame.

So i grew up with rooster teeth, I remember starting watching around 2004 RVB. Was with Achievement Hunter and Let's Play from the very beginning. I started losing interest in RT content right around Funhause's start. But i continued watching the let's play but more in a passive sense and unsubscribed from the RT channel. When the Ryan and Adam scandal happened I always was maybe watching one of two videos a week. I did unsubscribe from both like a week or so after. But for me it wasn't because of what they did. It was because the Let's Play channel was just an annoying noise to me. The last video i remember watching there was like 4 or 5 people all yelling over each other. it wasn't funny like when Geoff would rage and just yell at everyone. It was annoying, even my son hated it. It definitely has became quantity over quality.
I don't know how CZcams works. So i don't know if more videos per week with a lower view count makes more money, then less videos per week with a higher view count. Excluding sponsorships.

I still occasionally re-watch some of their old videos from 2012-2014 and they still hold up today. Far superior to the garbage they put out today filled with awful Twitter humor. Ray leaving was definitely the start of the downfall, but I do think they could've potentially recovered. While modern AH is a dumpster fire, I'll always appreciate the three years with the original six members.

I think a big factor of why Achievement Hunter and Let’s Play deteriorated was because gaming culture changed over the years. It’s not as big and diverse as it used to be, it slowly turned from having fun to competition. It really ended in 2016 and completely died by the time Battle Royale games peaked. The late 00’s and early 10’s was both gaming and Rooster Teeth’s content at its finest

I started following them when I was 23 when they first started AH. I am now 37. I was real big on RvB and stumbled into AH. The guides, Let's Plays, GO!, Achievement Horse, VS, AHWU, Play Pals....I loved that stuff for years. I wanted more. Then things began to change and they started expanding and cancelling things I enjoyed. They had some really cool stuff like Hardcore Mini-Golf and Haunter. Then they started to do too many things and live events, and you could see it was affecting their quality of videos. With people departing, and new people coming in, it got watered down. The constant rotating cast drove me nuts. Some of the personalities were simply not good. The chemistry that the original 6 had simply is not there anymore. The Ryan incident floored me. I think most of all is that a lot of us got older and have families and important jobs now. We simply do not have the time to be loyal to watching all of their videos. The guy who was my best man at my wedding and myself watched EVERYTHING early on. He even moved to Austin hoping to get a job there(he didn't.) The market is flooded with gamers now on top of it. When they were a solid 6 person team and the quality counted more than quantity, that's when they should have leveled off and stuck with it.

The entire brand is DEAD and THEY killed it. Now be mad at me for speaking the truth but just know before you comment, im not wrong, youre just ignorant to the obvious.

They occasionally had guests and i thought the guests did work kind of well with the group, although they sometimes appeared clueless about the game they were playing. One day i was watching a TTT video and realised that no one i subscribed for was in the video and that's when i dropped off. I liked Kai, but the group lost the family feel, they felt almost corporate. You can tell they feel like it's more of a job than a hobby because, while they're having fun, they're also idiots who don't know what's going on in the game. The realistic rainbow 6 vegas videos were amazing because they knew what was going on as they set a goal for fun and wanted to achieve it, but we got to see the mistakes and hijinx it took to get there. Now, they're playing games they've never played before, and will never play again because they're being sponsored to. Those videos won't do well because as much as we like to see fuck ups and funny moments, it can be painful for some people to watch them play a game that they play but in an incompetent way. For me personally, i loved their dead by daylight videos from years and years ago but now that i play dbd, i cringe

AH has really fallen off recently especially the videos I used to watch everything but now I can barely watch 5 min of one. the new group ( I don't even know their names because I haven't watched them long enough to care) just doesn't work none of them have chemistry together the old videos felt original and fun and everyone worked off each other and played the games and let comedy come through the new people just attempt to play and only focus on how to make a funny moment and they just can't. The old crew developed their individual comedy styles over time and based it around stuff they were good at even Lindsey was ok even though she could be very annoying at points but that was because she worked when she was the comedy and the butt of the jokes now she is being made to act like the old crew and carry the videos and that just isn't her strength. When Jeremy first came in it was clear he was akward and nervous about things but as time went on he learned and mastered his craft and was able to carry episodes when needed to the new people came in and just acted like they have done this forever they came in and just all re-created what they thought AH style was which is just playing stupid and just screaming and overeating to everything so it doesn't feel genuine anymore. The OG AH videos was just screaming and stuff but it was geniue and it's clear now that really AHs style was just the 6 personalities working and meshing with each other and creating something unique this new group just trys copy that and all they do is just search for things to make them funny and just say how hateful, racist and sexist the people who just say they aren't funny are. Recently they have seen to just completely not take fare crtizizim when they used to or even just didn't care now if someone says something about how someone isn't funny they immediately get bothered by it and it effects everyone instead of just shaking it off and moving forward. The new group came in and instantly tried to be hits and it made the OG crew have to work to continue to carry videos with little to no help and I think it burned them out because sometimes the OGs seem very tired and burned out. And it's clear they have lost their way because their videos barely get many views anymore because people became tired of what the New AH turned into and most people (like me) just go back and rewatch 2012-2016 and 2017-2019 videos when it was still the main six with Trevor Alfredo and Matt as additions to the comedy and not the driving force which they try to be now.

Starting watching them in late 2012, I fell in love with AH. I tuned in every Friday for Minecraft, every Monday for GTA, and basically watched all of their daily videos. When Ray left in 2015, I felt as if a lot of what defined AH had gone with him. Jeremy becoming guy #6 was fine but it definitely wasn't the same. Then Fiona came on and I watched less and less, only really watching the TTT videos. Gavin and Geoff appearing in a video every month it seemed, Alfredo and Trevor becoming main members...it just wasn't the same.
Ryan was always my favorite member and logging into twitter the day the fiasco broke, kinda broke me in return. I really had no reason to keep watching their videos after that point. Even Jeremy isn't really there anymore. Their latest videos with the new cast don't feel like a bunch of friends goofing off and playing games. It feels like friend*ly* coworkers making content to fulfill a quota. Their views have gotten so low nowadays and they've stopped GTA and Minecraft videos altogether.
I'll always look fondly on those memories I have of the simpler times of six friends loving life and entertaining all of us with their antics...but no matter what, nothing they can do now will ever replicate those feelings. It's sad but I've come to accept it.

The fun group of friends paying games vibe is totally gone. Their audience wants good comedy, but instead the company focuses more on forced diversity rather then natural chemistry, and forced loudness and obnoxiousness instead of genuine reactions and laughter. Compare any of the laughs in modern videos to the laughter of jack in the rainbow six siege 2 playthrough when gavin grenades himself, or the laughs from the early minecraft videos. Asa result their old fans seem them for the corporate "comedians" they have grown into, and the young audience has a wide selection of better creators to choose from.

To me at least it was ruined once they started shoehorning politics. I was still young when trump got elected and it tore my family apart, I used LetsPlay to escape and laugh for a bit but when even they got in on politics it just ruined yet another place for me to go to escape.

@@AdmiralRamirez7 for sure but the whole office kinda got into politics and I remember seeing “fuck trump” written on a white board at one point and that was it for me. I just wanted to avoid all politics and they insisted on pushing it

First ray left, then geoff semi left, then ryan left, then jermy left, gavin is almost never on... and now its a woke kids show... its not fun to watch anymore.
What made me left AH was when they did some type of circle crying during the BLM riots and after that it went downhill very fast.

Yeah most of the original members that are still there are barely on anymore, it’s like a completely different channel at this point really. Don’t get me wrong I like some of the newer members like, BK being my favorite but it doesn’t have that same Spark or enjoyment that the original members brought to the table. Each of them had like a distinct and interesting personality that made them funny and feel connected with them, now a lot of the members just feel like they are trying to fill in on what the original cast did and for some it may worked others not so much.

Bit humor...too many gags that just didn't land. Lost the vibe of a bunch of friends chilling and playing games together.

I have to disagree that the reason AH is failing is because "the fanbase grew up" or that the content now is "meant for a younger audience" I have great memories of what content there was before. I was in college during the hey day so a bit older than the target demographic even. I can't watch it anymore due to R*an and it makes me feel sick. But trying to watch anything new it's so commercialized. No one cares, its sterile and boring. There's too much going on, too many people, too many projects, and an obvious attempt to hop onto trends. A lot of those things can probably be traced up to upper management knowing nothing about what people want. Or maybe I'm just a grumpy old person who misses the old days.

It just got too woke, scared to make dark humor jokes or be actually comedic. The ball busting and shinnegains were the best part of og lets plays. If you watch the og lets play worms videos. Those are funnier that 99% of the content from now.

I bet the new crew can't handle the old AH banter lol. I remember back when I was interested in working with them, I read that being able to take insults and light bullying was actually part of the job requirements in the job description.
So sad to see that desperately running from your problems and glorifying mental unwellness has become so trendy and basically the norm.

I left when Ryan left, not because of what he did I couldn’t care about that, more the fact when he left the last bit of humour left, it’s become a snowflake company and only show woman and blacks just to please people

Yup. What he did was terrible but you can’t deny that his humor and personality in the show were top notch.
